Audrey's breath hitched, and she felt tears prick at the corners of her eyes. "Please, give us a little more time. We're working on resolving the issue," she pleaded, but the line went dead before she could finish. As she sat there, staring at the phone in disbelief, it rang again. Another investor, with the same message. One by one, they called, withdrawing their support, each call chipping away at her confidence. By the time the last call ended, Audrey was trembling, her hands cold and clammy. The fear and sadness were almost too much to bear.
