Bruno looked between me and the woman in his office, who was making my heart race in the craziest way.
A part of me was clearly enjoying the tension, but I didn’t understand the depth of it. It was a mixture of sweetness and a lingering tightness I couldn’t shake off. She was my mate. I could feel it—could literally smell it. But she was acting indifferent.
The thought of her not acknowledging what we were made me even more frightened. I had lost my first mate, and now I was going to make sure I didn’t lose this woman.
Bruno tilted his head, studying me with a hint of curiosity. “She is my assistant. You wouldn’t know her; she just joined us,” he said slowly, as if the answer was obvious. “Tera has been working with me for nearly a week now.”
