It was finally the day of the wedding, and as soon as I opened my eyes, a wave of anxiety crashed over me.
The name Kantos echoed in my mind, causing a throbbing headache that had kept me awake all night.
I knew I couldn't let it consume me; today was supposed to be a joyous occasion. But try as I might, I couldn't shake off the unease that had settled in the pit of my stomach.
It was in two ways - I give in to Kantos, or reject and he cause drama and trauma. One that will reveal my past to Rafael, reveal a lot to Gracie and maybe, cause a fight between two packs, two households.
“Damn it!” was the only that came to me. I wasn't a Salvatore, I wasn't a member of the Fairfield pack, how can I hide under the canopy? It felt odd to me.
I quickly got out of bed and went to check on Grace in her room across the hall. But as I entered, I found her room empty. "Again," I muttered under my breath, realizing that Gracie had woken up before me, as she often did, and was probably already with Rafael.
I let out a sigh and made my way wearily to Rafael's room. As I went, the thought of trying to end the budding relationship came to me but I swept it aside. It was out of my mind.
Then, my last conversation with Rafael where he asked about my tattoo: the name and the location came to my mind. Again, I kept it aside. Another weighted conflict was in my mind. One that had more effect on me than all others.
As I entered the room, my heart warmed at the sight of Gracie seated on Rafael's bed, waiting.
It was glaring that she was comfortable with Rafael and that somehow, he seemed to be taking my place and more in her little heart. I was the first she’d see every morning, now it's Rafael.
"Mommy! Good morning, Mommy!" she exclaimed excitedly. I couldn't help but smile as I cupped her cheek and patted her shoulder lovingly.
"Good morning, my darling," I replied, my heart overflowing with love for her. But my attention was quickly drawn to Rafael, who greeted me from the bathroom.
“Hey, Sonya!” he called. “You need to go get ready.”
It was his twin brother's wedding and he was going to be the best man. As he had said earlier, nothing would hinder him from appearing at his best, but his leg.
"Good morning, Mr Salvatore," I replied, trying to maintain a sense of normalcy.
I wanted to ask how long Gracie had been in his room when Rafael emerged from the bathroom in his boxers with a towel draped around his neck.
Immediately I felt a familiar warmth spread through me. I quickly averted my gaze, trying to ignore the effect he had on me.
This attraction I felt towards him was a mystery I couldn't explain, and it only complicated things further.
The feeling was the same as I felt when I first saw him sprawled on his bed, a body that made me wonder how sturdy the body would be. I found myself going deep wondering and I just had to stop.
“We would leaving in an hour,” he said again.
I nodded in understanding, fully aware of my responsibilities. I will have to help him get dressed even though I don't want it and then I will drive him there.
"You should be here, you know. Helping me in the…” he paused and looked to ensure that Gracie was looking then he gestured at the bathroom. “This is part of your job," he said, emphasizing the importance of my presence.
I knew he was right, but with his lustful mind, I dare not.
"Gracie, go and brush your teeth, sweetheart. We have a wedding to attend," I said, redirecting my attention to my daughter.
“I took my bath already,” Gracie said with a grin.
“What? That soon?”
“I'm still looking forward to the day when you'll wake before her,” Rafael taunted.
“Alright, I prepared a gown a gown for you already, go and bring it,” I said. All I wanted was a time with Rafael to tell him to stop being nice. It sounded all dark but I had to and he had to stop too. A time will come and we'll leave, how will I cope with Rafael being away and Gracie apart from him? While we can't stay here forever.
“Rafael said he has a gown for me,” Gracie said with a lisp.
“Oh, true,” Rafael said and limped towards the large wardrobe in the west wing of his room.
I stood and watched, wondering how he got it in there. How long had he been planning this? I needed to know.
He turned around with his suit in one hand, and two other gowns on the other. I needed no diviner to tell me that one of those belonged to me.
Gracie's eyes lit up at the sight of her gown. "Mummy, look!" she exclaimed, running towards Rafael and getting the gown from him.
I sighed inwardly, realizing that Rafael had gone above and beyond to make today special for us. "Thank you, Rafael," I managed to say, genuinely grateful for his thoughtfulness.
Mine was left in his hand and I watched him lay his suit on the bed while he handed mine to me. Slowly, I walked close and took it. I don't want to ask how much it cost but there was golden embroidery around the neck as I looked from the leather package around it.
“How long have you been planning this?” I asked.
"I ordered it yesterday," he replied with a smile. "Now go put it on. Also, Gracie would present some flowers. She has a role to play and we have acted it out while you're still asleep…”
“Really?” I cut in.
“Yes, mommy,” she said with a grin.
“We only have fifty minutes left,” he concluded.
I nodded, feeling a mix of emotions. No man had ever gone this length to be so good. Although, somewhere in my heart, a feeling told me he wanted me in his bed, but still, his nice reaches were touching me.
Gracie ran to him and hugged his long legs. Looking up, she muttered. “Thank you, Rafael.”
He looked at my direction and opened his hands as he smirked.
“Gracie, we should get dressed,” I said and we walked out of his room.

After getting dressed, we reconvened in the living room, where Rafael appeared in his grey suit, looking incredibly handsome.
The suit hid the dominant and intense aura that being an alpha bestowed upon him, and I couldn't help but keep my compliments to myself.
He looked naturally handsome and his emergence brought a scented aura into the living room, one that called my attention to his face.
He winked at me as he supported himself with one of his crutches. He was getting better and I can see it.
Today was supposed to be a good day, for all of us. For me, for Gracie who felt so special in her gown and with the role she had to play.
“How do I look, Rafael?” Gracie asked and Rafael smiled.
“Beautiful, my princess,” he said and looked in my direction. This time, I didn't look away. I think I should get use to him.
“You look ravishing as well. A perfect eight with the right protrusion…”
“Mr Salvatore, we should go,” I said, trying to stop him. I thought with Gracie around, he had no chance but he seemed to have found a way around it.
“Yeah, of course, let's go,” he said and led the way.
As we prepared to leave for the wedding, a heavy sigh escaped me. The day should be perfect but the threat from Kantos weighed heavily on my mind, causing conflicting thoughts to swirl in my head.
“I hope there would be a way…”
