Chapter 5: The Alpha's Entrance

711 Words
Lina’s POV She heard the door before she saw him. Not a creak. Not a slam. Just the gentle, inevitable shift of something massive moving through her world. The way a tide rolls in—silent, strong, undeniable. The space behind her changed. The air changed. And without turning, she knew. He was here. Her spine tensed, instinct tightening every muscle. Her hands, still loosely bound in front of her, clenched into fists. She kept her head bowed, knees pressing into the rug beneath her, barely breathing. Boots. Slow. Precise. They stopped a few feet away. And then… silence. She felt him looking at her. Not with the hungry stares of the auction. Not like men who measured what they'd paid for. His gaze felt colder. Deeper. Like he was reading her bones. Testing where she’d break. A finger touched her chin. Not rough. Not gentle. Just… sure. He tilted her face upward, and she let him. Not because she wanted to. Because there was no point in resistance. And when her eyes met his— The breath left her chest. He was beautiful. Not soft. Not kind. Beautiful like winter frost on steel. Dangerous. Distant. And those eyes—deep brown, so dark they looked like polished wood, heat smoldering beneath the surface. He didn’t blink. Didn’t flinch. Just looked. And she looked back. Because she couldn’t not. Because something in his silence demanded she see him. Something in her stomach twisted. Not fear. Not quite. Something worse. Want. His thumb grazed the corner of her mouth. Just a ghost of contact. And yet, it sent a jolt down her spine so vivid, she almost gasped. Still, he said nothing. He stepped back. Turned his head toward the door. And nodded once. A guard appeared. Bowed. Then disappeared again. And when he looked at her once more, he simply said— "Come." His voice was low. Resonant. And she hated that it made her toes curl against the carpet. She rose, legs stiff, skin tingling where he’d touched her. And she followed. The hall outside was dim and silent. His pace was slow, deliberate, not once turning to look back at her. And yet she felt him pulling her forward — not by the chain or the wrist, but by something else. Something she didn’t understand. Her thoughts raced. What would happen next? Would he chain her again? Touch her? Use her? She hated how the questions made her skin prickle. Hated how her thighs tensed at the memory of his voice. His thumb. The way his eyes had dragged over her like heat. She didn’t want to want him. But she did. And that terrified her more than anything else. When they reached a tall black door, he paused. Opened it. Let her enter first. The room inside was impossibly vast. Firelight flickered across the walls, throwing shadows against shelves, books, weapons, glass. And at the center — a bed. Enormous. Covered in dark sheets that shimmered like oil. Her breath caught. She didn’t move. He stepped in behind her. Closed the door with a quiet click. Still, he didn’t touch her. Didn’t speak. She turned slightly, just enough to glimpse him from the corner of her eye. He was removing his gloves slowly, methodically. Watching her the whole time. The silence stretched so long, it became a shape. A presence. And then he said it again— "Come." Her knees obeyed before her mind did. She moved across the carpet, heart pounding, and stood before him. He didn’t smile. Didn’t blink. Just reached out, gently turned her, and began untying the ropes at her wrists. His fingers brushed her skin. Her breath hitched. He was slow. Almost reverent. And when the ropes fell away, her arms felt suddenly too light. Too bare. Then, unexpectedly, he bent — and brushed his lips against the raw mark left by the chain. She gasped. But he was already pulling back. Already turning away. Already leaving her with skin on fire and a head full of questions she couldn’t let herself ask. She was still standing there — wrists tingling, legs weak — when he disappeared into the shadows of the room. And somehow, she already missed the weight of his gaze.
