Mother's Rage

Alphaena's POV "Now, Alpha Maurice. Can you tell me what's in this vial?" Alphaena asked and gestured to the vial on her desk, tapping her fingers on the desk with her other hand. Maurice looked at the vial, his eyes widening for just a split second before he scoffed dismissively. "How would I know?" he answered without looking her in the eyes, fidgeting where he stood and sweat forming on his forehead. Alphaena smiled faintly, stood up and took the vial. "You know," she started and walked past the desk towards him while looking at the vial in her hand. "Ivory Veil is a poison only you know how to make, right?" Panic flickered in his eyes and his body stiffened. "How did you—" Alphaena grabbed his throat, her golden eyes glowing with anger and hatred as she clenched her hand, making him gasp for air. "Think before you talk, Maurice," she said coldly. "Why did you try to poison my daughter?" He clawed at her hand and tried to pry it open, but it was no use. He looked over at Fenrir for help, who stood by the floor-to-ceiling window behind Alphaena, and didn't move from his spot. His cold gaze stayed locked on Maurice while he watched him struggling to breathe, showing not intet of helping. "Help... Help...!" Maurice rasped desperately to his people standing at the door, but neither of them moved. Alphaena smiled condescendingly. "No one is coming to save you, Maurice," she laughed. "Your pack has abandoned you and chosen someone better, Alpha." Maurice stared at her furiously and started to turn as a last resort, but Alphaena clenched harder, stopping him in his tracks. This was her home, her sanctuary and the place she was the strongest, a lot stronger than him. "You haven't answered my question, Maurice," she growled and forced him to his knees. "You piece of shi—" "Think carefully," she interrupted and flicked the lid of the vial, his face turning pale. "This is Ivory Veil, a poison only you know how to make. The only difference is that this one is ten times stronger and will kill you in just five minutes." "How?!" She nodded to his former men without answering him, and they restrained him right away as she forced his mouth open and poured the vial's contents down his throat. They released him and watched the panic spread through his body while symptoms started to appear. "Tick tock, Maurice," Alphaena said and leaned against the desk. "Five minutes to tell me what I want to know," "The antidote!" he shouted and stared at them one after another, all of their expressions unchanged. "Give me the antidote!" His lips turned white and he squinted his eyes, avoiding the light in the room. "Tick. Tock." "I did it! I did it! Now give me the antidote!" Alphaena stared at him as he crawled towards her and grabbed the edge of her pants with disgust. "Why?" He looked up at her, white lines now covering his neck and face. "I wanted your power!" he shouted, even more frantic. "Please! The antidote!" Alphaena's eyes glowed stronger, rage surging through her body at his answer. "You would kill a child for more power?" she spat and kicked him off her. "No!" he screamed with a hoarse voice. "She would get the antidote as soon as you agreed to my terms!" Alphaena stood up and towered over him. "And what if I didn't?" He hesitated for a moment, and his body started to shiver. "You were going to let my daughter feel what you are feeling right now. You were going to let a four-year-old child suffer because you are greedy." She kicked him down onto his back, knowing fully that he no longer had control of his body. "Now you feel exactly what she would feel," she roared, forcing herself not to turn and rip his vocal cords out. "The only difference is you only get to feel it for five minutes, something she would have felt for months." He stopped moving, his body covered in white lines, his lips completely white and his eyes looking like glass. He wasn't breathing anymore, and Alphaena scoffed, rubbing her temples. "Alphaena," Fenrir said hesitantly, walking up next to her and looked at the door. "What?" she answered, annoyed, and looked up. She flinched as she looked right at Nyra standing in the door with Lior right beside her. All the anger, rage and annoyance disappeared instantly and were replaced with concern and fear. Nyra looked at the body, her expression calm as if this was completely normal, and looked back up at Alphaena. "Did this man make the milk taste funny?" Alphaena looked at her, stunned, before turning her gaze to Lior, who was smiling to himself, before turning back to her. "Y-yes, sweetheart," she said, stepped over the dead body and picked Nyra up. "Let's go to your room and play before dinner, alright?" Nyra nodded while hugging her, still staring at the body, unbothered. "Fenrir," she said and then looked down at Lior. "Come on, Lior." Fenrir didn't answer. He knew exactly what she wanted from him. As Alphaena started walking Lior turned around and followed them, staring at Nyra the whole way, while behind them Fenrir cleaned up what had happened, leaving no traces behind. Alphaena stroked Nyra's hair with a lump in her throat, worried about Nyra's reaction, or lack of one, to the first dead body she had ever seen. Maybe she thought he was sleeping? She shook her head. Her expression had looked like someone who knew exactly what it was, like someone who had seen it a dozen times. But how? Did she have a really bad nightmare? She couldn't wrap her head around Nyra's calm reaction or how she seemed like an adult in that moment. She seemed to have changed after this morning, but why, Alphaena couldn't tell. She kissed the side of her head and held her tighter. I'll protect you, no matter what, Nyra.
