chapter 9

I was pretty much out of breathing once I had gotten to scarla first. I still saw Neia and kai running toward me. Jason was way behind us mainly because he took off last. I faced scarla kneeling down to try to shake her to see if she will wake up, however she was out cold. I checked her pulse, sighed in relief that she was still alive.

"Scarla, it's going to be okay, we will find you some help," I said to her.

"shyne!!" Neia yelled running toward me.

Neia tackled me to the ground, crying in my shirt. I fell backward while on my knees.

"Neia....get..off...me...i..c...can't...breathe...." I said short of breath.

"no, I'm not letting you go this time," she said sobbing.

"well can you at least loosen up your grip please, I need to breathe to stay alive?" I said trying to breathe.

"Alright fine, just don't run away,"  Neia said letting me go.

I gasped for air, coughing a Little. I tried to get up off the ground but it was a bit of a struggle to have Neia bar hug me o the ground. kai reached us at that point. he had reached out his hand and helped me off the ground. I felt the blood in my legs rush down I guess my legs fell asleep.

"Thanks for the help," I said.

"yeah your welcome shyne, I'm glad to see you are alive and well," kai said smirking.

"Yeah you too, I'm so happy you guys had gotten my message. I thought you guys might have gotten caught by some of the guards who were at the house," I said.

"We would've been if kai hadn’t gotten to the house before us to warn me and Bryan about it," Neia said.

"oh well, where is Bryan anyways? you didn't mention him in the message so I thought he was still working," I said.

"yeah...about that.... me and kai tried to tell him not to go up to them and ask what was going on....but he didn't want to listen," Neia said with a wistful gloom face.

"he never listens to anyone when it comes to someone else's safety or family," kai said a bit annoyed.

"so he was the one who had gotten caught at the house wasn't he?" I asked.

"yeah...but...wait how did you know that?" Neia asked.

Jason came up to us panting and wheezing a lot.

"heyyy...huff...huff...ready to get trained in less than a day?" Jason asked out of breath with a smile.

"Wait a minute, What do you mean training?" kai asked.

"umm well... it's kind of a long story but can we get inside first it's getting a bit chilly out here and scarla isn't feeling too well so we need to get her inside where it is safe and warm?" I asked. I tried warming myself up but rubbing my arms.

"okay little fry, let's go in the forest and make a fire," kai said smirking.

"haha very funny, but I'm not a fry besides I meant the cottage that scarla and I are in, for the time being. I do remember the way," I said.

"wait, why do you need to be all the way out here?" Neia asked.

"I will answer your questions once we get in the cottage but first can you guys help me carry scarla to the cottage?" I asked.

"yeah sure skinny arms," kai said smiling.

"I am not that skinny kai!" I said snapping.

"yeah sure you not but come on let's get your friend scarla inside wear it is warm," kai said.

"I will help too," Neia said.

"Well don't look at me, you don't seem like you need me to help," Jason said crossing his arms.

"What a way to be a gentleman," Neia said sarcastically.

"What is so wrong with not wanting to carry scarla?" Jason said offended.

"It's the polite thing to do after she just Teleported us her Safely without getting anyone hurt," kai said.

"well I didn't ask to get teleported through a portal I just wanted to help shyne get in shape to win the fight," Jason said.

"that's not an excuse because none of us did, yet,  it is done so we should at least be the kind to her and help her out, "Neia said.

"Whatever, I guess I will try," Jason said.

"Alright, so now that you guys are ready to help, can we get her inside, where there is warmth?" I said.

everyone nodded, Kai and neia picked her up by the legs, and I and Jason have gotten the front of her body by her arms. it was a bit hard at first for us to get her off the ground because she was a bit heavy and we had a hard time getting her but we finally got the hang of it. we picked her up. We started to carry her through the forest to the cottage. It was mostly quiet when we all were walking.

"so shyne, I do have a question," Jason said.

"what is it?" I said.

"no wait I thought we had to wait for the question," neia said.

"well I'm going to make one reception for the sake of the silence," I said.

"Why do you need me to train you to fight? I know you and you are never the one to have beef with someone or get into trouble, so why would you need to learn how to use a sword properly to fight back? if I were you, I would go with the classic man-to-man fight combat when you fight without any weapons but since you seem to want to be a bit fancier and try to be actually get killed I guess I can show you the basics." Jason said.

"that answer goes with the story I'm going to tell you at the house so I will explain everything once we get to the house and then everyone can ask me all the questions they have about what's going on," I said.

" Alright, alright, geez, I was just asking a simple question," Jason said.

"neia and kai nodded.

Alright, good," I said.

the rest of the walk to the cottage was pretty much silent other than Jason whistling annoying tunes, the sound of our feet hitting the ground, and the beautiful night sounds, it was pretty much quiet between all four of us. Once I saw a Specific lineup of trees and I knew it was scarla cottage because remember from before. 

"Alright we are here," I said.

"umm...shyne is it me or have you gone crazy because all I see is more forest," neia said.

"Yeah, that is just the force field that is surrounding it to make it seem like it is apart of the forest," I said.

"oh that's so cool," Jason said.

"well I guess that makes sense," kai said.

 "Yeah I figured as much as well," Neia said.

"When are we going to put this girl down? she is getting heavier by the minute?" kai asked.

"oh yeah, sorry, we can put her down here, then we will just carry her in and put her to bed," I said.

"thank god," Jason said stretching. He let go of the underarm he was carrying and it threw us all off and I fell to the ground with scarla head laying on top of me. kai and neia fell River as well as soon as I did.

we all stared at Jason with pissed-off faces.

"what the hell were you thinking Jason?!" kai yelled rubbing his head.

Jason looked at us like he was about to laugh.

"sorry..i-" Jason busted out laughing like a maniac.

"you seriously think this is funny Jason, we could have gotten hurt, especially scarla more than any of us," Neia said coldly.

"I'm hahaha....sorry...haha...it's just...haha....so...funny hahaha," Jason died of laughter.

After a while of seeing him laugh I started to giggle myself then Neia did too. kai just smirked at us trying to hold his laugh in as well, when we're all laughing our heads off. the laughter was starting to whine down then that was when everyone came back to their senses.

"Alright, hehe, so since we all seemed to calm down, hehe, can we please get scarla inside so she can feel better?" I said with a bit of a giggle in my throat.

"yeah that would be nice," kai said coughing out his laughter.

"yeah let's go on inside," Neia said giggling a bit.

"Alright let's go before someone else falls over," Jason said giggling.

We all laughed again and headed on into the cottage holding scarla in our arms.

"wow, this place is really nice," Neia said.

"yeah seems very comfortable to be in for the night,' kai said.

" wow this place is soo nice and homie," Jason said.

"yeah scarla has a really good eye for design doesn't she?" I said."we should take her upstairs to her room so she can rest first."

"Yeah, that's a good idea shyne," Neia said.

"what are we waiting for let's go," Jason said.

we all held on to scarla and hurried up the stairs. We all kind of struggled going up the stairs with Scarla as we went up the stairs with our own bodyweight. it was a bit of a tough job but, finally, we had gotten up the stairs to Scarla's room to lay her down in the bed.

"alrighty we have accomplished that," Jason said.

"yes, we did," I said putting the covers on scarla, making sure she was comfortable.

"so now that we have brought scarla in the cottage safely, can we ask our questions now?" kai asked.

"yes, let go downstairs and let scarla rest in quiet, so we won't disturb her," I said.

they all followed me down the stairs in the living room. I sat down in one of the comfortable reading chairs while kai and neia took a seat in the other chairs. Jason sat on the floor on one of the pillows that you can sit on.

"so what do you want to know first?" I asked.

"Why were there upper authority guards at our house?" Neia asked.

"They were waiting for me, thinking that I would come back to the house," I said.

"Why were they looking for you?" kai asked.

"Because....." I sighed." I am the real heir to the throne. my father....he was the king of landmendale, he had left me with mom, so he can save  the kingdom from some kind of witch that was trying to get the throne for herself and destroy the royal family."

"well she reached one of her goals of destroying most of the royal family," Neia said.

"do you know who this witch is?"asked kai.

"Nope, all I know is that she wanted the throne for herself," I said.

"so, you're the next heir to the throne?" Jason asked.

"yup, weird to know that you're talking to royalty but the thing is, Kevon the grand duke's, is trying to kill me over the throne," I said sitting back.

"hmm...so that's why you needed Jason here, so he could train you how to use a sword to fight Kevon," neia said.

" yeah," I said.

"is that also why you wanted us to come here, so you can have help to Execute a plan that I'm sure you have," kai said.

"Yeah, you pretty much got it, but your missing one thing," I said.

"What is that?" Kai asked.

"I really missed you guys," I said smiling.

kai and neia smiled and looked at each other.

"I missed you too," Kai said smiling.

" So did I but it seems that we have work to do then," Neia said smiling.

"so what is this plan you have?" kai asked.

"well, so far the plan is to have a stand-off duel with Kevon but make a deal with him beforehand. the deal will be if he can free Lira and mom and disappear from the kingdom for good however if he wins he gets the throne and I will sign the contract." I said.

"What is this contract you are talking about?" Jason asked.

"The contract will allow Kevon to have full rights to throne leaving me out of the royal family for Eternity," I said.

"wait, what happened to mom and lira?" neia asked.

"they were kidn*pped by Kevon. mom was kidn*pped a couple of days ago and lira...well, when I was escaping the house from Kevon and his servant kin, she left herself behind so I can escape with scarla," I said.

'i should have known," kai said shaking his head.

" well shyne, I think you should do it, after all, being a king must be a hard job and Kevon has been training the position for his whole life. besides, you would most likely get your family back home safely," Jason said." but hey, I'm just saying the guy knows more about the royal Regulations than we all do combine," Jason said.

I had to think for a moment about what he had said. Jason had a point but it still doesn't make it right that Kevon should have the throne just because of the knowledge he knows.

"you make a good point yet, you have to look at the world around us that his father had created in the kingdom. he had created Disruptive communities, violence, and racist accusations against each other based on elements of power and by what race they are," kai said.

"yeah I'm with kai, you make a good point but we need to think about what's good for the kingdom right now,"neia said.

"The kingdom will always have its troubles but that's when a strong leader comes to suggest and give a solution to the problem. I know I am not as strong as Kevon is or not have the knowledge that Kevon has about the kingdom already but I do know how we are all struggling with the grand duke's rules and laws. I can always learn the ways of the kingdom as I live in a royal castle when I get the throne." I said.

Neia smiled at me like she was proud of me. kai seemed to impress by my words so he just smirked. then I smiled as well feeling like I was ready to take the throne now and prove that I am ready to improve the kingdom but it was a process that I needed to stick to until I get to where I wanted to be.

"well shyne, I think you and your siblings have won this conversation over with words of wisdom," Jason said smiling.

"what can I say, family always has your back, no matter what happens," I said.

"You got that right," neia said.

"that's the truth right there," kai said.

"well, I guess since that is settled we should start planning for the fight, right?" I asked.

"well I guess so we should prepare for every possibility that might happen. Kevon has a lot of power with being the son of the grand duke, so he will have better advantages than we do. however, I think if we think through every course of action carefully we could possibly outwit him," kai said.

"yeah, and since you are talking about taking him on tomorrow, we are going to need to have a plan ready by tomorrow morning to execute so we can get lira and mom back," Neia said.

"so shyne, you ready to learn the basics of swordsmanship?" Jason asked, getting up to stretch.

"Yeah I guess I'm ready," I said."neia and kai, can you guys start planning while I train with Jason, we do have some leftovers for you guys to eat if you want," I said.

"Alright, sounds good I guess, I mean, there's no way I will be getting any good sleep tonight but I guess I have to sacrifice it to save the world," kai said yawning.

"you want me to make you an energy drink smoothie before I start?" I asked.

"yes...please," kai said sluggishly." can you make me like...4 I'm going to need the energy for all this thinking ima about to do?"

"yeah sure," I said smiling.

I Headed into the kitchen and started to bring out some ingredients that were leftover from cooking earlier. I started to add a lot of sugar and a lot of caffeine into the drinks with a little bit of fruit and veggies, then started to blend it up in the blenders. I gave kai his first cup full.

"here is your first one," I said.

"thank...." kai yawned."you..."

I headed back into the kitchen to clean up the mess u had made in the kitchen.

"Hey, shyne while you are in the kitchen can you please warm me up a plate of some of those leftovers you were talking about earlier, I'm starving after working yesterday, besides do I miss some of your cooking?" neia asked.

"Yeah, sure, let me just finish cleaning up this mess first," I said.

"thank you," neia said.

Jason has sat back down as he realizes he's probably gonna be there a while I was in the kitchen. when I finish cleaning up the kitchen and I want up warmed up to Neia's food and then placed it on the dining room table.

"hey neia, I warmed up some of the leftovers you wanted. they are on the dining room table for you," I said.

"ahh, thanks shyne, your the best," neia said jumping up to wah her hands to eat her food.

"hey kai, do you want a plate of food?" I asked.

"Nah...I'm good, thank you though," kai said.

"Yeah, no problem," I said cleaning up a bit.

What I was finished cleaning up the kitchen a little bit more I headed back into the living room.

"Alright Jason, I'm ready," I said.

"Finally, it took you like forever to be ready," Jason said.

"well, I'm ready now, so let's go," I said cheerfully.

"Alright, so where are we going to train?" Jason asked.

"Ummm...I don't know, I guess outside because it doesn’t seem like this cottage has enough room for us to train," Jason said.

"Alright, let's go then," I said.

"wait before we go, we are going to need swords," Jason said.

"oh, you're right, well I guess I can look upstairs to see if I see any," I said.

"Alright but hurry because we don't have much time since it is already 8:30 pm. if you want to have some good sleep and get some good training in, then we need to start as soon as possible," Jason said.

"Alright alright, I'm on it," I said.

    I headed up the stairs and saw the room I was in the first time I went in with the creepy huge mirror. that was Scarla's spell room which was a bit scary at first so I decided to go down the hall, to look through the rooms for any weapons for the training. As I looked through all the rooms I didn't really see any swords of any kind, so I went to Scarla's bedroom to look and see if she had any swords in her room. I tried to be as quiet as possible as she rests in the bed I opened up her closet and saw a whole bunch of clothes that were basically black hoodies. I had to try to stop myself from laughing because I thought she only had one hoodie this whole time, but nowhere she goes with 100 black hoodies in her closet. I started to look through the hoodies checking to see if she had any behind them, but I didn't see any. but when I was in the back of the closet, I saw another door with a tiny handle. I opened it and saw a whole bunch of weapons such as I saw axes, Maces, Daggers, and of course, I saw swords. I went ahead in and grabbed two swords. I choose one that seemed to befit me, so, I got the one that was a bit lighter. for Jason, I thought he wanted one that was not too heavy but with medium weight. when I was about to leave out the closet s I suddenly heard a c***k on the floor. I froze in terror when I saw Scarla standing up in front of me half awake.

"What...what..." scarla struggled to finish her sentence. she rubbed her eyes trying to wake herself up. she was barely standing, she was shaking a little, she seemed like she was going to fall over if I gave her just a little tap on her shoulder. 

"scarla, I was just getting some words out of your closet for me and Jason to use for training," I said softly.

"oh....okay," scarla said.

 scarla started to walk away from me, slowly while in a bit of a haze, with very little movement in her legs, then all of a sudden, she had collapsed on the floor.

"scarla!" I yelled.

I lounged to catch her I Only managed to catch her arm, the rest of her body had hit the floor but not as hard as it could have been if I hadn’t caught her but her arm. I held her in my arms, looking at her, realizing she was burning up when I felt her forehead. I thought of what I should do I had no clue in mind that could help her. In times like this, I wish my mom was around to help with these kinds of things. I tried to pick her up but I couldn't do it. I wanted to call for kai or neia or Jason to help but they must've been tired from working yesterday and helping me with carrying her here in the first place.so I decided to try something. I laid her on the floor, stood up, took a deep breath, and tried to focus on the power inside of me. I thought if I could lift things up with my powers, then, Maybe, I can pick up Scarla.

I reached my hand out so I can focus on lifting scarla with my mind. I had taken a deep breath and thought of how angry I was about my dad then I felt a fire inside me get triggered. I closed my eyes as tight as I could to focus then I opened them and saw that nothing happened. I put my hand down in hopelessness.

"What am I thinking? I can't lift someone with this power," I said.

I sat down on scarla's bed and put my head down to think. I heard someone come up the stairs. someone knocked on the door.

"Hey, I know you're in here," Neia said.

"come on in," I said.

Neia came on into the room, seeing scarla on the floor sleeping and then seeing me sitting on the bed looking at the floor. then she sat next to me on the bed.

"why is scarla on the floor?" Neia asked.

"she woke up, seeing me getting the swords, then she collapsed on the floor when she was heading back to bed," I said.

"Okay, and why didn't you ask one of us to help you put her back in the bed?" Neia asked.

"I thought I could do it by myself," I said.

"shyne, you know darn well you can't pick someone up, let alone a bag of groceries," Neia said.

"well...I thought...I thought if I could have used....nevermind," I said shaking my head.

"what, used what?" neia asked.

"I thought I could use my power to help me pick her up but it didn’t work. it seems to only want to come out in the wrong times," I said

"what power?" neia asked.

"I have something inside of me, a force that allows me to move things with my mind but it is only triggered by my emotions. I have had it for as long as I can remember but it was just never triggered until lately with all this drama that happened with these stupid visions, then finding out I'm soon to be king, yet, I have no elf ears. I mean, how can I represent elves and humans, if I don't have the ears to represent myself as an elf, I mean I don't even have an elfen elemental power that everyone has," I said.

"look shyne, you may not have the ears of the powers but you have the heart to be an elf. you care so much for the people and the safety that you are willing to put yourself out there to fight one of the greatest swordsmen there is. Kevon may have the advantage of being raised in the royal palace but he lacks what you have, which is love for the people,"neia said.

neia put her arm on my shoulders as she laid her head on the other. I took a deep breath and leaned my head against hers, I processed what she had said to me. I needed to stop thinking that I'm worthless and start being the example that the people need me to be. I lifted my head and gotten up from the bed.

"what are you doing now?" neia asked.

"maybe, my power isn’t just in my emotions, maybe it is when my guard is down and I just let everything go," I said.

"what do you mean?" neia asked.

"Every time these powers have come out, it was when I was upset and when I let myself be vulnerable to things around me, so maybe if I just let myself be a little bit vulnerable and let my guard down it might work," I said. "I don't think I really wanted my powers to work when I was trying to pick up Scarla and put her back in bed, I think I stopped myself from doing it because I didn't want it to be real, I didn't believe in myself, I didn't believe that I, of all people, could have superpowers like every everyone else, except mines are a bit different though. Maybe if I start worrying about trying to prove myself to everyone else and stop trying to be normal to fit in at school, if I put aside the expectations i out in myself then maybe, just maybe, my powers will work for me instead of me working for them," I said.

"I guess you will only know if you try," neia said.

I walked toward scarla laying on the floor but this time I focused on the moment instead of my surroundings. I closed my eyes put my hand out in front of me and felt the force come out of me through my arm to my hand. I felt free, a wistful feeling but I tried to keep my focus on scarla the whole time. I opened my eyes and looked over at Neia's face as she was in shock at what I was doing. I looked at scarla and she was floating in the air. I smiled in shocker but still kept my focus. I moved her toward where neia was and laid her in the bed gently.

"shyne, you...you...did it,"neia said, cheerfully, shocked.

."I did, didn't I," I said.

"shyne, you might have a chance with the duel tomorrow with these powers,"neia said getting up off the bed and putting the covers on scarla.

"No, I can't do that if people knew what I'm capable of, some people will be scared of me and some people will be with me despite their fear of me. Besides, I know there are some people out there who want this power for themselves, who wants to take over the world, destroy it and I just cannot stand by and let people see that happen around them. I will use my sword only and I will not use my powers at all," I said.

"but you will be able to defeat him with a better chance with your powers," neia said.

"That may be true, but I'd rather die in battle with him and honor the people than to use my powers on him risking everyone's safety," I said.

"Well, all I can do now is help you out as best as I can and guide you. so let's go downstairs and get to planning because you still got some training to do. you may be getting the basics from Jason to learn how to stand your ground in a duel tomorrow but for the rest of your life now, you're gonna have to learn how to fight with a sword properly. so me, Kai, and Jason will gladly teach you but you need to be willing to learn Because like you said, there are so many people out there wanting power and with this power, you have that no one else has, puts you in you bigger risk of people wanting to kill you and take that power from cells, so you are going to need to know how to fight with a sword, a bow, and magic. But first things first, let's get through the door first and get your throne back and get mom and dad and they were back home to where they belong and then we'll worry about all the other stuff later OK?" neia said.

" Alright," I said smiling.

I And Neia left the room leaving scarla dead asleep we went on downstairs. Kai looked up at us confused about why it took us so long upstairs but I had the swords for me and Jason to practice, so I and neia came down the steps and I handed Jason his sword.

"Let's go," I said.
