He is sprawled out on the couch, holding a book in the pretence of reading. There are petals of flowers spread all over the couch, on the floor, and on the stool beside the couch that has other books on it too.
Amongst these petals are hydrangeas too, that is a disrespect to my favourite flower. You either leave it on the tree, or make a bouquet out of it not have its petals lying on the floor.
I can’t see his face clearly because the book he is holding covers his face. The book is Haunting Adeline. Interesting, I wonder if the theme of the shoot is that too. I can see his muscular build, and he looks tall.
“I can’t believe Xavier is here.” One of the girls says.
“It is surprising that there are no paparazzi around.” The short girl with the blonde hair adds.
“Could it be that he made a silent entry?”
“That means I am lucky. I will get a photo with him and tag it with the caption, ‘Xavier came all the way to the heart of Moscow to see me.’ Thank God I grabbed some makeup before coming.”
“And you initially didn’t want to come. Hurry and touch up your face before he finishes.”
“I know girl, I never would have forgiven myself.”
I scoff, as I look back at the shoot going on just directly opposite me. I wonder who this gentleman is, and what the fuss about him is all about.
My phone starts to ring signalling an incoming call. Just as I am about to look away, he drops the book that was covering his face, making direct eye contact with me.
He has the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen. It is not just about the colour, blue, my favourite colour, but the shape of the eyes perfectly framed with long, thick lashes. He has full thick brows, small cute lips, a little goatee, and a sharp jaw line.
His lips form into a smirk like he is aware that I am staring because I find him attractive. I look away, my cheeks heating up. Feeling embarrassed, I bury my head in my hands.
“What is wrong?” Sharon asks as she placed my order on the table.
“That man caught me staring at him, I feel embarrassed.”
“Oh I am sure he doesn’t mind. He is used to having ladies gawk at him by now.”
“Used to? Who is he?” I couldn’t help but ask my surprise evident.
“Oh my days, you don’t know Xavier Williams?” she whisper yelled, her eyes wide in shock.
“The Italian model?” she added, like it was meant to ring any bell.
I stare at her, not saying a word. “Let me show you Xavier, I even took a photo with him before the shoot started.” She said, as she walked away.
“Why do you have a habit of not picking my calls?” yes, that is Samantha. I didn’t pick her call, and got caught away with my embarrassment fiasco.
“You look elegant Sam. You could easily be mistaken for someone who just wrapped up a business meeting with Bill Gates.” I say as I get off my seat to give her a warm hug.
“You flatter me Lily, thank you.”
“You smell yummy. Is it a new collection?” I ask her as I loudly sniff her neck causing her to push me away laughing.
“All I can say is that it is from Dior.”
“Oh come on, pretty girls do not gate keep.”
“That is why I am a beautiful lady, not a pretty girl.” She responds, grabbing a seat.
“You are insufferable.” I flag a waiter down before sitting down too.
“Good afternoon ma’am. What would you like to have?” The waiter asks, handing her the menu.
She collects it with a smile on her face. Skimming through the menu, she adds, “This might take a while, I want to try something different, something new.”
“Take your time ma’am.” The waiter walks away to give her space.
“Have you ever tried there Pryanik?” she asks me her eyes glued to the menu.
“That is the spiced gingerbread?”
“Yes Lily, the traditional Russian spiced gingerbread.”
“Just once, it is okay.”
“How about Pofit?”
“Will you smack my head if I say no?”
“Considering the fact that you have been here a million times, I might be left with no option but to.”
I shake my head at her, and sip my hot chocolate.
The waiter is back, “We will have the Kulebyaka, Pofit, pelmeni and fresh juice. Thank you.”
“Are you crazy? How can you finish that?” I just couldn’t help but ask.
“Oh we are going to darling. Step out of your comfort zone.” She gives me the puppy eye look with a little pout.
I watch her as she finally settle into her chair, taking note of the Cafe. Her eyes zero on the Italian model and his crew.
She leans towards me, “Lily, that is Xavier.”
“How is it that I am the only one that doesn’t know him?”
“That is because you are a grandma. Let me show you his page.”
...
I have been in my room all day studying for our final exams that are around the corner. While I am so excited that I will be done with school for good pretty soon, I am equally anxious.
Examinations gives me anxiety and makes me sick, left to me I’d rather make tons of presentations than write an examination but it is what it is.
I’ve had zoom calls with Sam in between where she either clarifies a thing for me, or I do.
The only other distraction I tolerated is Miss Rachel coming to give me food, and snacks.
