MAXIMUS:
Once a year, the Blue Ridge pack comes together to celebrate the pack's anniversary.
The Blue Ridge pack had existed for five hundred years. Once I turned eighteen seven years ago, my father retired, and I inherently became the Alpha of the pack. However, my father passed away two years after I became Alpha.
Hosting the pack's anniversary was no small issue; it had to happen in dignified grandeur. Thankfully, my mother was there to make this year's event a success. I had a feeling that I'd meet someone important there.
It was mere coincidence that my eyes diverted to a pair of amber eyes staring at me in disbelief. I did have that aura; I knew women fawned over me. The prestige of being Alpha to one of the greatest packs to ever exist. Being good-looking was a plus as well.
With pure blonde hair, average height, shiny big eyes, plump lips, and eye-drawing curves that filled her red lengthy dress. But an Omega— Zara Dos Santos.
"Mate," my wolf uttered as my eyes lingered on her. It had only occurred to me that she stared at me for the same reason, utter skepticism.
There was no way that I would be fated to an Omega. I could argue my wolf felt the same, but the sudden attraction to be near her says otherwise.
I have seen many beautiful women over the years. She had a pretty face, yet there was nothing jaw-dropping about her.
Until the event ended and even after, she was on my mind. Like I had to have her, or the thirst within me wouldn't be quenched, especially not with my wolf's yearning to be close to his significant other.
If she wasn't one of the weakest members, I would've easily obliged. After all, every Alpha needed a perfect Luna at his side to run the pack with him. My mother, grandmother, and the Lunas before played a huge role in keeping the tradition, making the pack stand strong. I would be mocked by the council, by my enemies, by everyone. I felt cursed.
At the end of the week, I decided on my course of action— To feed my hunger. I would taste her once and let her go. If I did that, I'd be free. I sent my chauffeur, Bruce, to get her. The earlier, the better; there was no time to waste.
The moment she stepped into the cabin, her scent filled the semi-cold air, and that only made me hungrier. After a few words of exchange, I claimed her mouth with mine.
The sweet taste of mint and a slight hint of apple juice. Her body smelled like vanilla, which got my body into a haze. The feeling of her skin against mine, the way it quivered beneath my touch, and the way she set me on edge as she moaned for me.
I wasn't s*x-deprived, yet it was a feeling I'd never experienced before. I wanted more as much as I wanted her out of sight. I disliked her for making me feel that way, and I disliked the mate bond even more for making me this attracted to an Omega. At some point, I disliked myself after she told me I was her first. I had sensed it from how tight she was and the way she was screaming, but I didn't want to believe it. It's hilarious how I felt some kind of satisfaction from that, like I'd be furious if someone had her before I did.
I told her the truth. As much as she tastes good in bed, as much as I wanted more, she would never be a good Luna. The pack would never accept her.
After she left, I realized my thirst for her would take time to fade away as well. Even while I was away trying to make deals for the progress of the pack, she kept filling my head with thoughts and images of her writhing underneath me. That was the most distracted I had ever been in my life, the most uncomposed. Heck, that was the first time I lost composure. I brought her into my cabin. No woman, not even when my mother had ever been there before, no one except my beta and best friend, Jordan or commander Ragner— my trusted confidant and friend. I was going crazy over a powerless wolf. If I stayed around the pack for a day longer after I had her, I might've sent for her again.
Thankfully, business was demanding enough to occupy my mind. I ran through files, running from expense collations to the latest contracts needing my signature, and various council petitions stacked high on my desk. I was finally going back to my old self as soon as I was back in my office at the pack house.
After my guard left the office so the physician could enter for my quarterly health check, vanilla clouded my nostrils. An extremely familiar scent. I didn't look up from the files. I didn't believe that she would be stupid enough to get a job near me. Even if she was greedy enough to want me, she knew I'd never make her my Luna, and she definitely knows that the entire pack wouldn't accept her. They'd rather prefer me to make a truce with another pack through an arranged marriage to a woman who brings significant benefits and has more to offer.
I didn't bother telling anyone. I'd never; if she spills, I'll simply deny everything. No one would believe her anyway. Only Jordan would know, and that's if he ever begins to suspect since he was so good at reading me.
“Vitals check, Alpha.” I heard, and the voice brought my body to react.
I cursed immediately when my orbs met hers.
"You've got to be f*****g kidding me," I said more audibly, getting up from my seat, taking strides to where she stood. "What are you doing here?" I glared harshly at her, even though my wolf disagreed with my actions.
"Working," she managed to speak with confidence, but I detected the shakiness hovering over her temerity.
I leaned further towards her. "We both know you're not just working. Don't play games with me, Zara," I drawled.
"I'm not playing games, Alpha Maximus," she managed to back away and accidentally slumped onto my sofa instead. Her blonde hair was half-tied, stray strands framing her flushed face. My hand moved before I could stop it, and I grabbed her hair hard. She gasped, a sound caught between a groan and a moan, and my self-control cracked. I wanted to swallow that moan with my mouth. I wanted to see if she'd taste the same as the other time in the cabin.
Her presence was driving me insane, and I wondered if it was unintentional or the other way around. I watched her milky skin go red from the expanse of her neck to her face.
"S-stop," her eyes watered.
"You should run away now, Zara. You don't know what you're getting into," I warned. Before I continued, I heard my door open and slam shut almost immediately.
My eyes swiftly averted their gaze, and my grip on her hair loosened. I wanted to punch Jordan for standing there with a stupid smile on his face.
"Alpha Maximus," he paid his respects with a mock grin.
Zara quickly packed the diagnostic kit and bowed before scurrying out of the office. As I watched her hurry away, I had a feeling that my life was about to change. A crack had begun to form in the perfect order of my life.
