Chapter 16: Training Begins

1141 Words
The next morning, Sienna approached the Stone mansion with a determination she hadn’t felt before. The sun was barely rising, casting long shadows over the driveway, but she didn’t care. She had made up her mind—she wasn’t going to sit on the sidelines anymore. As she reached the front door, it opened before she could knock. Aiden stood there, shirtless, his eyes narrowing in suspicion as he took her in. “What are you doing here?” Sienna lifted her chin, refusing to be intimidated. “I want to help.” Aiden’s brow furrowed. “Help with what? The rogues. Everything,” she said firmly. “You said I’m connected to this, that there’s something in my blood that makes me important. So if I’m in danger, I want to be able to protect myself. You said you would protect me, but I need to learn how to protect myself too.” Aiden’s expression hardened, and for a moment, Sienna thought he would turn her away. But then Asher appeared behind him, leaning casually against the doorframe with his usual smirk. “She’s got a point, bro. You can’t just expect her to sit around and do nothing while all this is happening.” Aiden shot Asher a glare, but Asher just shrugged. “What? It’s true.” Axel was the next to appear, his dark eyes scanning Sienna with an unreadableexpression. “Training her won’t be easy,” he said, his voice calm and measured. “She’s human.” “For now,” Asher added with a grin, though there was something serious in his tone that made Sienna’s stomach flip. Aiden sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “Fine. If you want to train, we’ll start today. But don’t expect us to go easy on you.” Sienna’s heart pounded, but she nodded resolutely. “I wouldn’t want you to.” The training began almost immediately. They led her to a large clearing behind the mansion, where the early morning light filtered through the trees, casting a soft glow over the grassy field. Sienna felt her nerves spike as she stood in the center of the clearing, facing the three Alphas. Aiden, Asher, and Axel, all towering over her, looked like they belonged to another world entirely—a world of strength and power. And she was about to step into it. “First, we need to see what you’re capable of,” Aiden said, his tone all business. “We’ll start with some basic moves. Self-defense.” Sienna swallowed hard, trying to steady her racing heart. She wasn’t a fighter. The most physical activity she’d ever done was gym class, and even then, she’d barely managed to pass. But there was no turning back now. Asher stepped forward, his playful grin gone, replaced by a seriousness that Sienna hadn’t seen before. “I’ll go easy on you,” he said, “but you need to try and get out of my hold. If you can’t, you’ll need to learn how to at least escape long enough to call for help.” Before Sienna could respond, Asher moved. He was faster than she expected, grabbing her wrist and twisting her arm behind her back in a move so smooth she didn’t even have time to react. Pain shot through her shoulder, but she bit her lip, refusing to cry out. “Relax your body,” Asher instructed, his voice close to her ear. “Struggling like that just makes it worse.” Sienna fought the panic rising in her chest and focused on his words. She forced herself to stop fighting and instead tried to feel for a way out. Asher’s grip was strong, but if she twisted her body just right… With a sudden burst of effort, she spun, slipping out of his hold. For a moment, she felt a flicker of triumph—until Asher grabbed her again, this time pinning her to the ground. “Not bad for your first try,” he said with a grin, “but you’ll need to be faster.” Sienna groaned, her cheek pressed against the grass. “This is going to take a while, isn’t it?” Axel, who had been watching silently, nodded. “You’re starting from scratch. But with time, you’ll get better.” Aiden crossed his arms, his eyes unreadable as he watched from the edge of the clearing. “She doesn’t have time.” Sienna looked up at him, her chest heaving. “Then I’ll just have to learn faster.” Aiden’s jaw tightened, but he didn’t argue. Instead, he gave her a curt nod. “Again.” The rest of the morning passed in a blur of bruises, frustration, and countless failed attempts to defend herself. But Sienna refused to give up. Every time she was knocked down, she got back up, gritting her teeth and pushing through the pain. Asher, despite his teasing nature, was a patient teacher, offering advice and tips on how to improve her moves. Axel, though quieter, provided occasional corrections, showing her how to shift her weight or adjust her stance to avoid being overpowered. Aiden, however, remained distant. He watched her struggle, his face a mask of cold detachment, as if he was testing her resolve. Sienna didn’t know if he believed she could do this, or if he was waiting for her to give up. But she wasn’t going to give him that satisfaction. By the time the sun was high in the sky, Sienna’s muscles were screaming in protest, and her body was covered in dirt and sweat. She collapsed onto the grass, panting heavily. “I can’t… move…” Asher chuckled, kneeling beside her. “Not bad for your first day. You’re tougher than you look.” Axel offered her a hand, pulling her to her feet. “You’ll need to build your endurance. We’ll focus on that tomorrow.” Sienna nodded, wiping the sweat from her forehead. Her entire body ached, but there was a strange sense of satisfaction bubbling up inside her. She had done it. She had taken the first step toward learning how to defend herself, and while she had a long way to go, she wasn’t as helpless as she had thought. Aiden finally approached, his expression unreadable. “You’re not ready.” Sienna’s heart sank, but she met his gaze head-on. “I know. But I will be.” For a moment, Aiden said nothing. Then, with a stiff nod, he turned and walked back toward the mansion, leaving Sienna standing with Asher and Axel. Asher sighed. “Don’t take it personally. He just wants to make sure you’re prepared for what’s coming.” “What is coming?” Sienna asked quietly. Axel’s gaze was distant as he looked out into the trees. “War.”
