"Its only when I'm lying in bed on my own"
"And I wake up and I don't see your name on my phone"
"It's in the moments when I think I'm better alone"
"That's when I remember"
Chloe was standing and dancing on her bed as she sang.
She wore a black pajamas with a matching headband. Her room looked like a disaster with the way she was throwing clothes and stuffs around to better enjoy the music.
She woke up to the sound of her alarm playing "Remember" by David Guetta and Becky Hill and somehow decided it was nicer to dance to the song than turn it off and start her morning duties. She was so much into the song when …
"Seriously!" A voice said from the doorway. Knowing what to expect, Chloe slowly turned towards the door and saw her father donning an apron with an angry expression. She glanced at the black rimmed clock on her wall and shrieked running off to the bathroom.
"Holy s**t, I'm late". Her father hissed and left, obviously annoyed with her constant early morning dances that makes her get late to school.
She had the quickest bath she ever had in her life. Struggling to comb her long blonde hair as she packed the books she needed for school. Done with that, she wore black leather pants, a white crop top and black ankle boots.
She noticed animal fur on her bed and was taken aback for a second. "We don't have a cat or any other animal in this house." She made a mental note to ask her father about it and hurriedly went about the rest of her duties.
She picked up her bag and applied lip gloss on her red rose shaped lips.
"Done" she sighed glancing at the mirror.
"Dad, I'm gonna have to skip breakfast. I'm late". She screamed out to her father as she ran out of the house.
"Wait, you have to ..." Her father tried to say but she was gone.
He sighed again looking at the plate of pancakes in his hand with a helpless smile playing on his wrinkled face.
He was a widower who works as a Geography teacher in a nearby school. His name, Collins. Collins Anderson. His wife, Loveth died years ago during the birth of her second child. Chloe was therefore left alone with her grieving father at the tender age of 6.
She grew up to know and recognize affection only from her father who single handedly brought her up. Financially, they could be described as average people who could conveniently afford the basic necessities of life and a little more. At least, considering the expensive school she attends.
Meanwhile, Chloe was speeding to school on her bike with thoughts of guilt overwhelming her as she realized she once again wasted her father's efforts at trying to provide and take care of her.
CRESTWOOD HIGH
Chloe got to school in 30 minutes and parked her bike in the school parking lot; a space designated for students to leave their automobiles. She then sprinted to her classroom with her boots making loud noises as they met with the tiled floor.
She made it to the class just as the teacher entered. She slipped into her seat at the back of the class, very aware of the disapproving look her teacher was drilling into her back.
Mrs Jenks was their biology teacher, a very strict one that doesn't condone late coming to her class. She was lenient with Chloe just because she is the best student in the class. Her brilliance saves her on many occasions.
"You're late" her seatmate, Lisa said, earning an eye roll from Chloe who didn't have any friend in school and was not interested in having one anytime soon.
She brought out her laptop from her bag to follow up with the teacher's lecture.
All students in the school each have a laptop given to them by the school to make study easier.
Lisa is a cute, innocent rich kid with no friends too, so she badly wants to make friends with Chloe.
Next year would be their final year in school. "Just one more year to go and I'll be free". That's what Chloe thinks about all the time.
"Mrs Jenks would have ...," Lisa continued, seemingly oblivious to the cold shoulder she was getting but was made to shut up with a raise of Chloe's palm
Chloe concentrated on the already ongoing class, listening as the teacher's voice droned on and Lisa kept trying to make a conversation with her.
As soon as the class ended, majority of the students moved to the cafeteria for break. Chloe inclusive. She was already feeling the pains of ulcer cramps and knew she had to eat soon and fast.
"Not so fast Miss Anderson" She heard Mrs Jenks behind her. "Why were you late to my class again? What happened to the promise you made the last time, to make sure you're always in class before me?"
"Ma'am I was delayed due to traffic. It won't happen again"
Lisa was passing by at this time and noticed how Chloe kept clutching and rubbing her stomach. She went to them.
"Chloe, the principal needs your attention". Turning to Mrs Jenks "Excuse us ma'am"
She dragged Chloe away and towards the cafeteria.
"But you said the principal was calling me"
"Dummy, I was coming out of the class and you really believed that? I thought you were smart"
"Oh, thanks for coming to my rescue"
"Don't mention. What are friends for?"
"Friends? You seriously think I'll be friends with you over a shitty help? I could've left if I wanted. Just had to give the poor woman some face"
Chloe left Lisa stunned and speechless and walked into the cafeteria.
"Playing hard to get huh. Let's see for how long you can do that" Lisa said with a meaningful look at Chloe's retreating back.
She went into the cafeteria too.
Once again where she sat, Chloe was already feeling guilty about how she talked to Lisa.
"Oh God! Do i seriously have to be this way after every action I take?" She muttered under her breath, playing with the burger on her plate. "This is killing."
"And who do we have here? Chloe the perpetual late comer" A sassily dressed girl called out as she entered.
Chloe looked up and immediately looked away "Oh God, not again"
"How are you doing pumpkin?" The girl asked as she sat down on the chair opposite Chloe's, gently placing her tray of chips and juice on the table "Saw you barely made it to class this morning".
"Olivia please, I don't want any distraction now. I need to eat". She took a bite from her burger and closed her eyes. "This is so delicious".
Lisa came to join them at the table. She exchanges glances with Olivia and they both faced Chloe.
Chloe sighed and rolled her eyes, ignoring the two. She put on her headset and started nodding her head to the beat of the music playing.
Lisa and Olivia. Why do they want to be her friend? She noticed they both started approaching her a few months ago. At the same time at that. She watched them suspiciously as she gently chewed on.

“The plan is in motion, boss,” a hooded figure reported over the phone. “She’s being monitored.”
