Chapter 19: Where’s Grant?

“Where’s Grant?” asked Lew.
Max had collected the bodies and taken them back to the mortuary. Sedman had gone back to Wapping as well. The hotel staff had stripped the sheets and taken them to be burned. They were going to come back later to remove the mattress and attempt to clean the carpets. Lew and Alec were alone in the suite. Alec continued going through the suitcase he had put on the table, sorting things into neat piles.
“He had a family emergency. He didn’t say what. Telephoned in the day before yesterday. I haven’t heard from him since.” He frowned at the pile of lady’s underthings on the table in front of him. “I’ll never understand how they get these things on and off.” He sighed. “There’s nothing here.”
