“Abby,” Zoran said, watching as his mate moved among the villagers, asking questions, talking, but most of all listening to what they had to say. She looked up and gave him a sad smile. He walked over to her. She and the other women had arrived shortly after word had been received that the mountain was erupting. Zoran had initiated an emergency response team that immediately set up temporary lodging, food, and medical services for the villagers displaced by the eruption. Abby had arrived and begun working with the emergency response team.
