Calling off the engagement? Jermaine sneered.
The Mahoney family had been desperate to marry Ramona into the Bauer family. Ramona herself had gone so far as to mimic Tamera's style to please him. Now that she'd finally gotten what she wanted, he refused to believe she would back out. The Mahoney family would never allow such foolishness.
"Tell Mrs. Mahoney to keep Ramona from playing games," Jermaine said icily."If she doesn't want to be Mrs. Bauer, plenty of others do."
If not for his grandmother's eagerness to see him settle down, he wouldn't have agreed to this engagement in the first place.
"Mr. Bauer," the assistant hesitated,"does this mean the engagement is truly off?"
Jermaine's voice remained detached."The Mahoney family is still useful to me. The engagement will proceed as planned."
"But earlier you..."
"We'll proceed with the engagement," Jermaine cut in,"but the Mahoney family needs to remember their place."
"Should we send someone to explain the situation to Ms. Mahoney?"
"No."
At the mention of Ramona, Jermaine's eyes flashed with disdain and annoyance."She'll come crawling back to apologize within a day. I'm tired of these tricks."
In the past three months, Ramona had been attentive to him. She inquired about his preferences and daily schedule, and frequently visited to cotton up to his grandmother.
It was utterly nauseating.
Had it not been for his grandmother's fondness for Ramona and the Mahoney family's useful connections, he would never have agreed to become engaged to such a woman.
Now that Ramona was playing hard-to-get at their engagement party, he refused to indulge in her games.
That evening at the Mahoney residence, Ramona had just stepped out of her car when Celeste's vehicle pulled up right behind hers.
Celeste got out of the car and immediately shouted,"Ms. Mahoney! Have you lost your mind? How dare you call off the engagement at such an event! What were you thinking?"
Ramona ignored her, methodically removing every piece of jewelry as she walked toward the house.
The housekeeper Jaliyah, surprised to see Ramona home so early, asked,"Ms. Mahoney? Wasn't tonight your engagement party with Mr. Bauer? Why are you back already?"
Without responding, Ramona marched straight to her dressing room. She yanked off her pearl necklace, stripped off the evening gown, and began throwing every Tamera-style garment from her wardrobe into a cardboard box.
"Ms. Mahoney! What are you doing?" Jaliyah stood frozen in shock.
Ramona's gaze swept across the row of perfumes displayed on the shelf.
They were all the scents that Tamera had once liked.
With a sharp c***k, she sent them crashing to the floor.
