Jennifer’s POV The fire popped in the hearth, sharp and startling in the heavy silence. I sat stiffly in the chair, my knees pulled close, the blanket Jack had tossed over me twisted in my fists. My skin was clammy with sweat and rain, my hair tangled against my face, but I barely noticed.
