Episode Three: Opening Up

870 Words
I sat on the chair directly facing Melody who sat quietly unwrapping gifts. They'd been like this for over thirty minutes and I didnt want to break the silence as she knew She must've been through alot in the past few hours. Down the stairs, the help cleaned the mess from the unfinished party. "you must've been startled...." Melody said almost whispering with a sad smile laced across her face, too flattered to respond, I just nodded my head to affirm her statement. "They are my family...we separated three years back...its not their fault though" she said the last part in a voice filled with sadness. I knew it was wrong..prying into her personal life like this but, I was curious to know what shes done to warrant such from her very own family. "No matter the mistake, they're your family...what they did was totally wrong and immature. I said to stop her from justifying their wrong. She looked up at me and for the first time since we'd met, I saw tears in her eyes, it wasnt caused by her family though..it was tears of regret and guilt. I moved from the chair I was sitting to the couch where she lay and hugged her in a bit to comfort her, there her story began. Melody Wright was an only child of a wealthy American family, 'The Smiths' based in Philadelphia. She married a British man Harry Wright at the early age of twenty three, they'd lived happily with no complaints for a while. Then Melody got pregnant for her first child, who turned out to be a baby boy...two years later, she had another boy making them a happy family of three and they lived right in that villa. Some years later, Harry had gone on a long trip to England with the boys when she found out she was pregnant again. Of course she was elated but didn't tell Harry as she wanted to suprise him...but the trip took longer than expected as things weren't in good shape for Harry's family. Weeks turned to months and Melody still wouldn't tell Harry of her child so as not to disturb him. In her last month, going on a business trip to Carlifornia she got in a really bad accident and was rushed to the hospital. There she had given birth...when she woke up, she found out she'd been in the hospital for three weeks as she been in coma and that she'd lost the baby. She was devastated. She didnt tell Harry or the boys a thing about what had happened up until three years back when they'd gone to Brooklyn....there they met a woman at an event who turned out to be a nurse at the hospital where she'd had her child. The woman had said to her in the presence of her husband that her child had indeed survived and didnt die. Another woman was present that night and she looked affluencial, she bore twin girls but one died during the labour process. Melody seemed as though she wouldn't wake up soon and the hospital couldn't contact any family member...they also didnt want any burden on them soo, they exchanged the woman's dead baby with hers. Melody was a weeping mess at this stage...due to that event, her husband and sons left her and not being able to bear the pain of losing her girl and family due to her carelessness...she tried to commit suicide just like Riele and done but was also saved and made it her mission to find her daughter and reunite her family. Riele listened quietly tears running down her face and disbelief masked her expressions. "which hospital was it..." Riele stuttered, Melody only looked at her with curiosity. "was it Humpkins...." she said again looking to catch Melody's expression...and there it was the disbelief in Melody eyes. How did she know was the only question going through Melody's mind. Riele ran out of there as quick as she could to her own room. Riele's POV I sat behind the door, I refused to cry or jubilate not until I was sure...not until i was hundred percent sure. But the thought of it alone made me want to burst into tears...could it really be true? I didnt want to hurt her feelings again if it wasnt true. Maybe it was my selfishness but I wished my speculations were true. A week after the incident, Melody and Riele got along preety well and formed a basic trust. Riele didnt just want to sit back so she talked about going to get a job after the new year was over. Melody loved that about Riele..she still didn't know what made her crumble but even after a few weeks, she was completely back on her feet This morning, Melody stayed home as is was the new year and decided to cook by herself, cause she was in a good mood. Riele had asked Melody to please invite the nurse who passed the information on her daughter to her saying she wanted to clarify something. Riele was really anxious...the nurse was coming over tommorow, she really wished the nurse would confirm that Melody was her mother....
