Time to rebuild

The journey to the new land was long. It took them over a week to get there. They only stopped a few times for rest. When they stopped, tents were set up so that no one would have to sleep outside on the ground. Daphne made phone calls during their journey. She had found Karter’s safe filled with everything she needed to rebuild the pack. There was a number for a lawyer in Kentucky. Daphne called the lawyer explaining who she was and why she was calling. The lawyer’s name was Shawn Calloway. He was a wolf also, but he chose to live in the human cities. His mate had rejected him and, instead of having to see her every day, he had asked his Alpha for permission to live outside of the pack. His request had been granted and he’d been living among humans ever since then. Karter met Shawn when Karter had flown out to Kentucky to take a look at the land. He had asked his agent for the number of a good lawyer who could handle a variety of things. Shawn was that lawyer. Shawn and Karter hit it off and became instant friends. Daphne didn’t know that Shawn and Karter had talked frequently. Karter had decided not to tell his wife many details of his contingency plan because he didn’t want her to worry about their pack's future. Shawn knew the whole situation with Alpha Roman and had instructions should something bad happen. Shawn knew Daphne would be the one to call him, and that he would have to explain everything Karter arranged for her. When she did call, he offered his condolences first. He knew what a good man her mate was and he felt her loss. Shawn gave Daphne his address as well as the location of the land that Karter had purchased. He assured her that he would be by her side to help her with everything and anything she needed. Karter had left detailed instructions and Shawn wanted to honor his dead friend’s wishes. Daphne agreed to meet Shawn at the land location so she could see what she was working with. Even if there were no buildings yet, they had tents they could set up as temporary shelter while they started building new homes. When Shawn and Daphne hung up, he made his own phone call. This person was going to have to meet with Daphne as well, since she was part of Karter’s plans. “Hello?” the voice said when it answered. “Hello Daniella, how are you?” Shawn said. Daniella smiled. “Shawn, I’m well. How have you been?” “You know, working and keeping my nose clean,” he said, laughing. “That’s always a good thing,” she replied. “Would this call be for business or pleasure?” Shawn sighed. “I wish I could say it was the latter, but I actually need your help. Again.” Daniella laughed. “Well, then big boy. Lay it on me; what do you need help with?” “Do you remember Alpha Karter Storm? He came here some years ago and bought some land, and you set up a cloaking spell so no one could find it.” Daniella was a witch. “Yes, I do remember him. I remember how scared he was for his pack. Did something happen to him?” she asked. “Unfortunately. The Alpha he'd been having problems with attacked his pack, took Karter, his ranked wolves and his army all as prisoners. Over a week later, his Luna sent out more warriors for a rescue mission. Unfortunately, they were caught and all killed. Luna Daphne informed me that their pack lands have been destroyed and all buildings burned to the ground,” Shawn explained. “Goddess, no!” Daniella said, horrified. “That’s awful! Poor Daphne! Why did this happen?” “Alpha Roman, the enemy, wanted Alpha Karter’s daughter to be promised as Roman’s son’s future mate. Karter kept refusing. It’s why he bought the land out here, so the rest of his pack would have a place to escape to in case something bad happened.” Daniella could feel her heart breaking. Although she’d only met Karter briefly, she could tell by his aura that he was a good and decent wolf. It was a shame he had to suffer such a tragic and horrible end. In her heart, she pledged her loyalty to Luna Daphne and her pack. She would do whatever she could to help. Daniella knew what it was like to lose everything and everyone she loved. “Whatever you or Daphne need, I will be there. Just tell me when and where. I’ll help in any way I can,” she told Shawn. “Dani, you are the best!” Shawn said. “Yea, yea, just remember you said that. I may have to hold it against you one day,” she said, laughing. Shawn laughed with her. He and Dani had a long-standing friendship. They met when he'd needed a cloaking spell for himself to hide from a girl who was obsessed with him. The girl eventually left the city, but he and Daniella remained friends. He greatly admired and respected her and her work. She was the first witch he had met that wasn’t a dark witch. There were few light witches left these days and Daniella was the best one. After her coven leader destroyed the coven and killed everyone she loved, she narrowly escaped. She ran as far as she could, to another country. Daniella was originally from France. She was still a young girl when her coven was destroyed. Daniella snuck out in the middle of the night and came across a pick-up truck. She had quickly climbed into the bed of the truck and hid herself under some tarps. The truck had eventually come to a pier and she managed to sneak onto a ship heading to America. At that age, she already knew a few tricks, enough to get her through the journey overseas. As soon as she was off the ship, she ran to hide. She was seen by a middle-aged couple who ended up taking her in and caring for her until she turned 18. “So, Daphne should be in Kentucky in about a week,” Shawn said, pulling Daniella out of her memories. “I will need you to meet me at the land to remove the cloaking spell. Otherwise, Daphne and her pack won’t be able to find it.” “Just call me when you need me there. It won’t take me long to get there,” Dani said. Shawn knew what she was talking about. Daniella was able to teleport. “Excellent! Then I’ll see you in a week. Maybe after, we can get dinner together,” Shawn suggested. Dani smiled shyly, although he couldn’t see her. “That would be lovely, Shawn. I look forward to seeing you.” They said goodbye and then hung up. A week later, as they had discussed, Daphne met Shawn at the site. When she arrived with her caravan of remaining pack members, she saw a man and a woman waiting for her. She assumed the man was Shawn, but she didn’t know who the woman was. Daphne figured she was about to find out. When the vehicle Daphne was in came to a stop, she got out with Jackie and Marlene and they were flanked by a few warriors. Daphne walked over to where the couple were standing to introduce herself. “Hello, I am Luna Daphne Storm of the Solar Eclipse Pack. You must be Shawn,” she said while holding out her hand. Shawn took Daphne’s hand and shook it. “Yes, I am. This is a friend and associate of mine. Her name is Daniella.” Daniella held her hand out to the Luna. “You can call me Dani. I am so sorry for your loss, Luna.” Daphne shook Dani’s hand. “Thank you so much. Are you a lawyer as well?” Dani laughed. “No, not a lawyer. Actually, I am a witch.” “Oh, wow! I haven’t come across your kind in years,” Daphne said, smiling. “Were you also a friend of Karter’s?” she asked. “We met briefly. I could feel he had a strong and powerful aura. I could tell he was a good man,” Dani explained. “Actually, Dani is here because she had to remove the cloaking spell,” Shawn said. Daphne looked at them confused. “Your mate wanted to hide these lands from any rogues or other packs who may try to take them. I had to remove the spell so you and your pack could find it. Otherwise you would have been driving up and down the road for hours,” Dani told her. “Oh, well, thank you. Would you be able to do it again? I don’t want Alpha Roman to be able to find us,” Daphne said. “Luna Daphne, I have already decided to pledge my loyalty to you and help in any way I can. If you want to hide these lands magically, I am more than happy to do that for you,” Dani said. “You have my loyalty as well. Karter was not just a client; he was also a good friend and I will do whatever I can to help his family and his pack,” Shawn told Daphne. “Thank you both. It means a lot to me,” Daphne replied. “And please both of you just call me Daphne.” She turned to the two women next to her. “Shawn, Dani, I’d like to introduce you to my Beta female, Jackie, and my Gamma female, Marlene.” Shawn and Dani shook hands with both women. Then he handed Daphne a large rolled up paper. “Daphne, this is a map of the territory. I have marked the spot where we are standing now so you will have a starting point. I have all the rest of the paperwork you need whenever you want to come to my office,” Shawn said. Daphne smiled. “Why don’t we do all that tomorrow? My pack and I have traveled long and far and would love to get some rest.” “Absolutely! Just give me a call when you’re ready to come by,” he responded. “And when you’re ready for the spell, give me a call,” Dani told Daphne and gave her the phone number. “And if there’s anything else I can do for you, please do not hesitate to call me,” she finished smiling. Daphne thanked them both and they left. Then she turned to her pack members, who were filing out of the buses. “Marlene, Jackie, I want you to gather the omegas and start getting tents set up.” “Yes, Luna,” they said before taking off to gather all the omegas. The Luna then turned to her guards, who happened to be the last two head warriors she had left. She handed them the map that Shawn geve her. “Charlie, Allen, this is a map of the territory. I want you to set up a border patrol and check in with me every hour.” “Yes, Luna,” they replied before gathering the rest of the warriors and heading to the woods to shift. The rest of the day was spent setting up camp and making sure the rest of the pack members were taken care of. Everyone pitched in to help, even those who were not omegas. Daphne sent the rest of the surviving men out to find wood so they could get a fire started. By sunset, all the tents were set up and they had a fire going. Mable and her staff were making food for the pack. Everyone gathered around the large fire, eating and relaxing. Soon the pack members started retiring to their tents for the night. Daphne had been sharing a tent with Jackie and Marlene while they were on the road and continued to do so on the new land. The following morning, after they all had breakfast, Daphne made an appointment with Shawn. She took Marlene and two warriors with her. She left Jackie in charge of the pack. Shawn’s office was a 30 minute drive from the new pack lands. He was located on the outskirts of the city. When they arrived, his secretary led them right into his office. He had informed her they’d be arriving and to bring them right in. Shawn stood up and went around the desk to greet Daphne and her crew. “Daphne, it’s good to see you again. How was your first night?” “Hello, Shawn. Our first night was peaceful, but we can’t wait to build some homes for our pack. They can’t sleep in tents forever,” she said, smiling. “Marlene, was it?” Shawn asked her. Marlene held her hand out. “Yes, and it’s nice to see you again.” “Likewise. Well ladies, should we get started?” During the meeting, Shawn provided Daphne with all the documents that pertained to the land itself, as well as another map of the whole territory. There were other documents regarding accounts and finances. Shawn helped Daphne with everything. She signed a bunch of documents that transferred everything to her. Two and a half hours later, Daphne and Marlene were coming out of the office, followed by Shawn. The two warriors, whom Daphne had ordered to wait in the sitting area, got up to escort their Luna. Daphne turned to Shawn. “Thank you so much for doing this. I would not be able to do it without your help,” she said, smiling gratefully. “Of course, I told you, I am at your disposal,” he replied, laughing softly. “I will call the contractor and have him meet me at your territory. Is tomorrow a good time?” “Absolutely! The sooner we get started, the better,” Daphne responded. “Great! Then I shall see you ladies tomorrow,” Shawn said. Daphne and Marlene said good bye and left the building, followed by their two guards. Daphne wanted to take a look around the city to see what was available to them. She knew they were running low on a lot of supplies and needed to replenish them soon. She called Jackie and asked her to have two warriors grab a van and meet them at the market. After shopping and loading the van, Daphne and her crew headed back to the new pack lands. The omegas met the van when it drove up and helped unload all of the supplies, getting instructions from Daphne so they’d know where to put everything. The following day, as promised, Shawn showed up with the contractor and Dani. Daphne could feel something was going on between Shawn and Dani, but she wasn’t sure what it was and she didn’t want to pry, at least not this early in their friendship. Daphne had gone with a group of warriors, including Charlie and Allen, after breakfast with the maps of the land. She wanted to get an idea of the layout so she could decide where to set up the new pack house and family homes. They would also need a clinic and a hospital, as well as a few other buildings. By the time the contractor arrived, Daphne had a pretty good idea of where she wanted to build the pack house. She decided that the clinic and the hospital would be built right next to the pack house and the homes would span out from the main buildings. She made marks and notes on both maps explaining the layout. Daphne spent the rest of the day with the contractor coming up with designs for the pack house, clinic and hospital. They also set up a basic design for houses for the rest of the pack members. By the end of the day, Daphne was satisfied with all of her decisions. The contractor would be working with an architect to draw up blueprints for all of the buildings. He promised to get back to her within a week so she could go over the plans. Over the next week, the Solar Eclipse Pack worked on cleaning up the ground over the whole territory and then setting up gardens so they could start growing some fruits and vegetables, like they did back in Oregon. All of the pups spent a lot of time running around playing. Sometimes they’d get bored, but their sitters, as well as the other parents in the pack, did their best to keep the pups busy. The following week, the contractor returned, this time with the architect. They showed the blueprints to Daphne, answering any questions she had. Daphne was very impressed with the designs and didn’t see the need to change anything. Over the next couple of weeks, Daphne met with a lot of people. Materials needed to be picked out for the buildings; the roofs had to be decided on; windows, doors, porches and balconies all required decisions on design and materials. Daphne worked with an interior designer to choose all the themes and color patterns. Daphne was relieved when all the planning was done. The building locations were set towards the back of the land, away from where the pack was currently camped. She didn’t want there to be any type of accidents. The building itself would be starting in a couple of weeks and Daphne couldn’t wait to see the end result.
