Water and Fire

Eliana’s POV The officers all took the money without hesitation. One nodded. "We appreciate it, Mr Deluca," he said. "Always good to run into you." I stood there, frozen, like a prize Dominic had just won, watching them tuck the money away as if this were normal. The second officer turned to me and said, "Stop fighting with your fiancée; he is a good man." With that, the officers smiled and left. The moment they were gone, Dominic leaned in. "Do you have any other tricks up your sleeve? I'm eager to see them." I stepped back quickly, my back hitting the wall, my hand clenched into a fist, even though I knew I was no match for him. I whispered, 'What do you want from me? Mr Deluca, I didn’t see anything last night.' Dominic tilted his head, eyes gleaming with something unreadable, almost amused. 'I like that you know who I am now,' he said, like a show of power. My voice shook. 'Mr Deluca, I didn’t see anything. Just let me go, please.' Dominic shakes his head. 'You know what I think,' he said, voice low. 'I think you saw everything, and you should be dead for that.' I knew my fate was made the moment I saw Dominic Deluca kill that man, but fate is only fate if you let it be one, and I was not ready to let it be anything. (*) Eliana’s POV I looked him dead in the eyes and smiled even though I was dying on the inside. ‘ You know what, I am tired of this own back and forth, you came here to kill me, right, then go ahead and do it.’ I let out, my voice trembling but firm Suddenly, the stupid glint of amusement in his eyes was gone, as his face twisted into an ugly frown, and for the first time since I saw him in my house, he was angry. ‘ You still don’t remember me…’ His words came out not as a question or a warning, just disappointment Then, without warning, he lunged. I barely had time to gasp before he grabbed me and threw me over his shoulder, like I weighed nothing. ‘ What is happening? Put me down!’ I screamed, pounding my fist against his back. ‘ Where are you taking me to? Just kill me already,’ I continued to scream. He didn’t flinch. His grip tightened around my thighs as he carried me out of my apartment like a sack of rice, the door slammed behind us, as if it had already decided my fate. ‘ Help!’ I yelled. ‘Somebody, help me please!’ But who was I kidding? If the police could not stop Dominic Deluca, would it be my neighbours who would? He carried me down the stairs, and soon he stepped out into the night. A sleek black Audi was at the curb, and his man immediately opened the door, and Dominic practically threw me inside and got in next to me, slamming the door shut. ‘ I demand to know where you're taking me to, this is k********g, I am a lawyer, I can swear you for this.’ I let out, and He only chuckled. ‘ Sue me, that is funny.’ ‘’I am not joking, you might think you are untouchable, but you are not above the law, Mr Deluca,’’ I yelled as Dominic’s man pulled the car away from my apartment ‘ Mr Deluca, Ouch, is that how to speak to your fianée,’’ He let out with a smirk. ‘ You are not my fianée, and I will never be, even if you are the last person on earth,’ I said, and he just smirked, took out his phone and dialled a number. ‘ Get a room ready for my girlfriend, we will be at the house in 20 minutes,’ he said and cut off the call. I was confused; even his right-hand man looked at him in the rear-view mirror. But Dominic just ignored his stare. I clawed at the door handle, hitting the glass, trying to get out of this godforsaken car. ‘Don’t waste your time, fianée, here drink,’ I turned, seeing him holding out a bottle of water that was already open. What a gentle man. I threw it in his face.
