Chapter 5: Alpha Instinct

"I'm just doing my part and no more. I always did what you said, too." Elena was about to leave the restroom when she heard Logan's voice. She peeked in and found Logan talking on the phone with someone. "Yes, Sir. If that's what you want I'll do it." Honestly Elena didn't want to eavesdrop on someone's conversation but if she came out at this time, the situation would be more awkward. So she remained standing where she was while watching Logan vent his anger. He slammed his phone into the wall and swore. "He's not afraid someone will hear him?" Elena looked around, there was no one, but it was risky to madly rage here. Suddenly Logan left. Elena finally came out of hiding. "Gosh at least he should bring his piece of phone." She picked up Logan's battered phone and put it in her bag because she didn't want anyone to know he had lost his temper. "I should give this to him. Uh but what if he finds out I eavesdropped on his conversation?" Elena tapped her foot on the floor. "What the hell. I'll follow him. I'll just say that I accidentally passed by and saw his phone on the floor." When she followed, she found Logan in the garage. He stood in front of his car and kicked it repeatedly. Not stopping there, Logan also punched his helmet until it was dented and his hand was cut and bleeding. "f**k! Bloody people!" Elena was stunned to find that Logan was more terrifying than ever. Now she understood that someone on the phone had said something wrong to Logan that made him go crazy. "I always obey them and they threaten to replace me with a new driver? No one is as good as me!" Elena reflexively smothered her mouth. Her worries were confirmed, Logan's fate was the same as someone in her past. It made her suddenly feel sorry for Logan. But Elena also knew that no one could ever replace Logan. He handled the car and the track so well. His sharp eyes and agile movements were on top level, above average which earned him the nickname 'wolf on the track'. Logan growls before finally heading to the meeting room. "Oh my God! I have a meeting with him too!" Luckily Elena wasn't late and she was safe this time. She also didn't protest much at the team meeting this time because she was more focused on Logan who looked uncomfortable. Elena watched his movement. She worried about his injured hand and also wondered why Logan was looking down. What was truly happening is Logan trying to hold himself back because the wolf inside him tried to dominate. After the temper flared up earlier, his wolf wanted to take over so he could more freely vent his emotions. But Logan also kept trying to suppress his wolf. Until finally he growls that Elena hears again. "He's so weird. Why does he keep growling? Is he in pain? But why didn't he go to the medical center and come here instead?" So many questions kept popping up in Elena's head until she didn't realize the meeting had ended and everyone had returned to their places. When Logan stood up, Elena hurriedly followed him. It turned out that Logan was back at the place where he had received the call, looking confused. "Where's my phone?" He searched through the pile of things in case it had been thrown there but it wasn't there. "Did someone take it? I want to ask the others to help me fix it." Elena immediately looked at her bag. On her own initiative, she had gotten herself into trouble. I shouldn't have picked it up and just left, was what Elena thought. Elena's misfortune didn't stop because next she fell with the pile of things because when she stood up, her foot tripped. She literally held back the embarrassment of falling right in front of Logan. "I just passed by." Elena stood up quickly. "Did you see my phone? I didn't intend to throw it but it seems like it's no longer there. Maybe you saw it because you were just passing by too, right?" Elena didn't dare to look Logan in the eyes. "I don't know." Logan smiled meaningfully and approached Elena. He put his hand in Elena's hair, making her hold her breath. "Is it true?" Elena saw the wound on Logan's hand and she had the idea to change the subject. "Oh my gosh you're hurt!" She held Logan's hand. Warm, that's what she felt. "I'll treat your wound. It needs to be cleaned to prevent infection. How did you get a wound like that anyway? You know your hands are important." Logan just obeyed when Elena told him to sit down and be treated. Well even without treatment, the wound would heal quickly. "You have to take good care of your body. Don't get hurt. Tomorrow you will return to the track again. If your enemies know you're injured, they can use that to get the upper hand on you." "No one will be able to defeat me." "Nothing is impossible. The wheels spin, you know?" Right now Logan was desperately holding himself back from attacking Elena. Aside from his unstable emotions, Elena's scent was driving him crazy. "I'll get the band-aid. Wait a minute." As Elena left, Logan looked at her phone that she hadn't locked. He scrolled through the contents of it, stopping at one photo, which Elena had seen before she found the tyre marks of the car in the woods. "This is the driver who died on the track a few years ago. What is the relationship with her?" He hurriedly returned Elena's phone when he heard the sound of her footsteps. "Sorry it took so long, I had to get it secretly so that-" Elena dropped everything she was carrying in her hands when she saw Logan's hands were clean and without wounds. "How did it heal so fast?" Logan no longer hid his identity. He moved as fast as the wind toward Elena, trapping her between his body and the wall. He wants to know how Elena would react before he moves too far. "I allowed you to know who I am." Elena's lips trembled, she shook her head, rejecting the facts. "There is no such thing in this world. There is no such magic that makes the wound go in one second." "I don't use magic. That ability was passed down when I was born." Logan lifted Elena's chin. "Your suspicions are correct. I'm not an ordinary human because no ordinary human can be like me. No one can see as clear as my eyes at night when they're on the track. You know what makes me unstoppable? Because I'm a werewolf, I'm an Alpha." Then a second later Logan landed his lips on Elena's. He kissed her gently before Elena finally lost consciousness in his arms. He rubbed her back gently. "You're not ready to accept me. I'm sorry I had to erase your memory of this moment." Then he put Elena on a chair and made it look as if she had fallen asleep naturally there. Before leaving, Logan took the necklace which Elena had returned from his pocket. He put the necklace on her. "Keep putting this on so wherever you are, they'll know you're mine because I can't mark you right now."
