Chapter 23: Temple of Ash --- The wind howled across the scorched landscape, carrying whispers of a time long buried. Deep in the north, hidden within a range of jagged peaks known as the Cinder Spires, stood a forgotten ruin cloaked in mist and ash — the Temple of Ash. It was there that the Ember Blade had been taken. Within the temple, firelight danced across broken statues and charred murals. The air crackled with wild, corrupted magic. And standing in the center, cloaked in black and red, was Vaelen—the rogue prince once exiled from Lycan history, now reborn by flame. His eyes gleamed as he studied the Ember Blade resting before him on the altar. The sword trembled, resisting him, a hiss of fire snaking around its hilt. “She belongs to another,” he growled, voice like smoke. “But she will kneel.” He plunged his hand into a basin of molten ash, muttering incantations in a forgotten tongue. Shadows shifted across the chamber as the Blade glowed crimson. --- Back in Theron’s stronghold, Ava tossed in bed, her dreams disturbed. Flashes of fire. A voice calling her name. I could hear it.” “Vaelen,” Theron spat the name like poison. “He wants me.” Theron sat on the bed, pulling her into his lap. “He won’t have you. Ever.” Ava curled into him, trembling as the bond between them sparked again—stronger this time. The Flame in her core burned hotter, but so did her desire. Her fingers traced along his bare chest, following the pattern of his scars. His eyes darkened. “Ava…” “Make me forget,” she whispered. “Just for tonight.” He didn’t hesitate. Their lips met, slower this time, reverent but hungry. His hands found the hem of her nightshirt, dragging it over her head, his touch igniting trails of heat down her spine. Ava straddled him, their breathing labored. Skin on skin, heart to heart. Theron’s mouth moved down her neck, tongue flicking over her pulse. “You’re fire, Ava. You burn me alive.” “And you,” she gasped, fingers tangling in his hair, “you make me want to burn.” He laid her down, worshipping her with his hands and mouth. Her moans filled the room as he consumed her, unrelenting, unafraid. Their bodies moved as one, not just lovers, but soul-bound warriors claiming each other before the storm. Afterward, wrapped in furs and tangled limbs, Ava whispered, “Whatever happens… don’t leave me.” Theron kissed her temple. “Never. You are my mate. My flame. My queen.” But far away, beneath layers of ash and memory, Vaelen opened his eyes. And smiled. ---
