THE HEART OF THE OFFICE A Romantic Tale of Love, Rivalry, and Secrets By [Alhaj] --- Chapter Four: Nancy's Plan --- Nancy had noticed the rose on Alex's desk at Red Rubbies LTD. She had walked past his office a dozen times, each time pretending to be on her way to somewhere else. She saw the flower, pristine and beautiful, and she felt a hot surge of jealousy. Who had sent it? She had been pursuing him for months, and she had never thought to send him a gift. She had been too focused on direct confrontation, on bold moves and aggressive flirtation. It had never occurred to her that a simple gesture might be more effective. But now, someone else had done it, and she was determined to find out who. --- She cornered Lily in the break room, her eyes blazing. "Did you send Alex a rose?" Lily blinked, her expression the picture of innocence. "A rose? No. Why would I send him a rose?" "Don't play dumb with me," Nancy hissed. "I know you have designs on him. We all do. But if you think a cheap flower is going to win him over, you're more delusional than I thought." Lily's smile didn't waver. "I don't know what you're talking about, Nancy. But if I were you, I'd be more worried about Smillee. She's been sending him texts all week." Nancy's jaw tightened. "Smillee?" "Mm-hmm." Lily nodded, her eyes wide and sincere. "She's been sending him romantic messages. Pictures, too. Very... suggestive pictures." Nancy's face went pale, then red. "That little —" "Just thought you should know," Lily said sweetly. "But don't worry. I'm sure you'll find a way to compete." She walked away, leaving Nancy fuming. --- Nancy returned to her desk, her mind racing. She had been too passive. Too patient. While she was waiting for Alex to notice her, Lily, Smillee, and even Jany were making their moves. She needed a new strategy. She pulled out her phone and scrolled through her contacts. She had connections, resources, and a ruthless determination that none of her rivals could match. She just needed to use them. First, she called her friend at the city's most exclusive florist. "I need a delivery to Red Rubbies LTD. For Alex Bosi. Something spectacular. Something that will make his jaw drop." Next, she called a personal stylist. "I need a new wardrobe. Something that screams confidence. Something that will make him forget every other woman in this building." Finally, she messaged a private investigator. "I need information on Trisha the cleaner. Anything you can find. Her past, her connections, her secrets. I want to know everything." She set her phone down, a triumphant smile on her face. The game was about to change. --- The next morning, Alex arrived at his office at Red Rubbies LTD to find a massive bouquet on his desk. It was a stunning arrangement of red roses, lilies, and orchids — the kind of gift that was impossible to ignore. A card was attached, written in bold, confident script: "You deserve the best, Alex. And I intend to give it to you. — Nancy." He stared at the flowers, his brow furrowing. Nancy had never sent him anything like this before. What had changed? He set the card aside, his mind churning. The competition was escalating. --- Smillee noticed the flowers from across the office. She walked over to Nancy's desk, her eyes narrowed. "Nice bouquet. Trying to compensate for something?" Nancy smirked. "Just reminding Alex what he's missing." "Please," Smillee scoffed. "Men don't respond to flowers. They respond to action. To passion. To a woman who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to take it." "Like you?" Nancy asked, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Exactly like me," Smillee said. "Watch and learn." She walked away, leaving Nancy seething. --- That afternoon, Smillee made her move. She strutted into Alex's office without knocking, wearing a dress that left little to the imagination. She leaned against his desk, her voice a seductive purr. "Alex, I've been thinking about you all day. I can't concentrate. All I can think about is your smile, your laugh, the way you make me feel." He looked up, surprised. "Smillee, I'm busy —" "Busy is boring," she interrupted. "I want to show you something. Something that will make you forget about all this work." She reached into her bag and pulled out a small velvet box. She opened it to reveal a sleek silver watch, engraved with his initials. "I saw it in a shop window and knew it was meant for you," she said. "It's a reminder that you're worth more than just spreadsheets and meetings. You're worth being pursued." He stared at the watch, his expression unreadable. "Smillee, this is beautiful. But I can't accept it." "Why not?" she asked, her voice soft and pleading. "Because it's too much. And because —" He paused, his eyes drifting toward the window. "I'm not the man you think I am." She leaned closer, her lips brushing his ear. "You're the man I want. And I don't give up easily." She left the watch on his desk and walked out, her hips swaying. --- In the break room, Lily watched the scene unfold from a distance. She had seen Nancy's flowers, Smillee's watch, and Jany's bold moves. They were all playing the same game, using the same tactics. But Lily knew that the key to winning Alex's heart wasn't through grand gestures or seduction. It was through subtlety, patience, and trust. She smiled, her eyes glinting with quiet determination. She was playing the long game. And she was confident she would win. --- That evening, Alex sat in his office at Red Rubbies LTD, surrounded by gifts. Nancy's flowers. Smillee's watch. Notes from an unknown admirer. And the memory of Jany's kiss still lingering in his mind. He felt like a prize in a competition. And he hated it. But then he thought about Trisha. The quiet cleaner with the gentle smile and the eyes that held no agenda. She didn't send him gifts. She didn't compete for his attention. She was just herself — kind, genuine, real. And she was the only one who made him feel like a person, not a trophy. He reached for his phone and typed a message to her. Alex: Hi, Trisha. I was wondering if you'd like to have coffee with me sometime. Just coffee. No strings attached. He hit send, his heart pounding. It was time to stop playing games and start following his heart.
