Nina's POV I stood at the window of my apartment, staring down at the city lights that glowed like little halos on the streets. I pressed the phone to my ear, clutching to it tightly. I pressed my palm on the glass, my voice low and calm. “It's happening,” I said slowly. “The Alpha we have been watching…he has found his mate and it's Elina,” I tried to tone down the excitement in my voice. There was silence at the other end of the phone and I waited with baited breath. After what felt like a minute, her smooth voice finally came through. “Are you sure it was him?” I nodded hastily, even though she can't see me. “Yes. We went to a bar tonight and he approached her. He called her his mate. They even danced.” Then she sighed, and knowing her, she must be rubbing her temples. “You know what that might mean to us? Elina must not bond with him because if she does, the bond will break.” I swallowed hard at the menacing sound of her voice. “S…so what do we do?” Another voice came into the call, and it was softer, but it was filled with more darkness. Her voice gave me chills. It was Morgana’s sister who was a witch. She was the real mastermind behind the curse. “We use Leo.” Her sister said, “He's still in love with her. He was mad when she saw Elina talking to the Alpha.” “Good,” Morgana breathed. “Just make sure Leo bites and marks her. Just once before the Alpha gets her so that the curse will remain. Then she'll be bonded with Leo forever.” I nodded, excited that they finally believed me enough to give me a very important task in this mission. “Do not fail,” the witch warned, “Elina was not supposed to even be part of this prophesy.” I felt a chill run down my spine at the sound of her soft threat. I had never understood why they were so intent in making sure the Alpha remained cursed, but as long as I got to get what I wanted from this, I'll do anything. "I’ll make sure Leo gets to her first," I said. "She trusts me. I’ll bring her to him." "Good girl," Morgana purred and then the line went dead. I slowly pulled the phone from my ear and looked toward my bedroom. Earlier that night, Elina had looked at me and leaned on my arm, giggling that I was the best friend ever. I had smiled at stared at her. She had no idea. I helped her into the car and brought her here. I knew she trusted me and I was going to betray her, but I didn't feel bad about it. Not really. Elina was asleep on her bed. We had gone out drinking and Elina had passed out as soon as we got back to my apartment where I brought her. Her cheeks were still red from the alcohol. Her lips slightly parted. She looked peaceful and Innocent. I walked closer, my heels tapping softly against the floor. I stood over the bed and stared down at Elina. Elina had always been the sweet one. The soft one. The kind one. Everyone liked Elina. Everyone helped her. Everyone loved her. But no one ever saw me. Not really. I was always in the background, always helping, always pretending. And Elina? She was always the entitled b***h and always whined about every little thing in her life. I crouched down beside the bed. "You were never meant to live happily ever after," I whispered softly. I reached over and tucked a strand of Elina’s hair behind her ear. Then I stood up, walked out of the room, and picked up my phone again. I opened my messages. I sent a message to Leo. “_She’s here. Ready when you are._”
