Chapter 13 The Date

    "Cora, why am I doing this?" Violet said looking in the mirror as her friend does her hair. "He is just trying to be nice on a job well done. It's not a real date." a hint of sadness in her voice. 

    "You know nothing of the sort.  Did he invite me out for dinner to celebrate? No, he only asked you." Cora said then with a wink she added: "even though we both know I would add a lot of fun to the evening."  

Violet laughed and took a deep breath.  "You really think it's a date?" she asked looking unsure.

    "You are so dense." 

"You act like you know something I don't.  So why don't you just spill it." Violet said.

    "It's not for me to tell. Sorry, Vi." Cora finishes pinning a curl back so Violet's scarlet curls are out of her face.  "Done you look beautiful."

"That's not fair your my best friend and your keeping something from me." Violet accused turning to look her best friend in the face.

    "You kept things from me.  You will know soon enough." Cora was then saved by a knock on the door. "He's here," she says with a wiggle of her eyebrows. They both walked to the front door. Violet opened it and was shocked by what she saw.  There stood Eli his dark blond hair combed and styled. He was wearing dark wash jeans a deep purple button-up shirt and a black leather jacket.  He held daisies in his hand.

"Well, you clean up nice Eli," Cora said nudging her best friend willing her to speak. "say something" Cora whispered to Violet.

"You look hot, I mean great.  Uh, are those for me?" Smooth Violet, real smooth she thought.  

    "Yes, they are," Eli replied with a grin. "I hope you like daisies."

"They're my favorite actually. Why don't you come in and I will get water for them. " Eli walked in and handed Violet the flowers.

    "I like how you have put your own touches on the place already." Eli says.  He looks at Cora sitting in a rocking chair and mouths "How am I doing"  Cora smiles and gives him a thumbs up.

"Thank you so where are we headed? I thought we were a ways away from things." 

    "I have something special planned don't worry." Eli says with a glint in his eyes.

"Have her home before midnight and no funny business you understand," Cora says in mock authority.

    "Yes ma'am," Eli says with a small salute. He opens the door and puts his hand on the small of Violets back. Tingles shoot up his arm.  Violet leans in slightly.  I wonder if she realizes Eli thought.

    Violet walks down the steps to the driveway surprised to not see a car. "How are we getting where we're going?" she asked. 

    "We are walking." He looked down she was wearing white keds with her black summer dress. Good, she is not one of those stiletto types, he thinks. His eyes drift back up taking in the way her black dress hugged her assets.  Elis was panting in the back of his head.  He moves closer to her and says in a husky voice "you look gorgeous tonight."

Violet was aware he had been checking her out which brought a rush of pleasure and heat to her skin. "Thank you" she replied in a whisper.  Is this for real? she thought.  Lettie decides to chime in with kiss him. He wants it and so do you.  "um so which way?" Violet breaks the silence.

    Eli puts out his arm and she takes it. Being this close to him makes her fill with need, yet at the same time, she feels the most at ease she has ever felt.  He leads her towards a path in the woods.  They walked in silence for a long time. 

"You were amazing today." Eli said breaking quietness of their walk. "You are going to be a great Alpha if it always comes this easy." He smiles at her.

    "I don't even know what an alpha does." she looks down at the path until Eli stops her.  

Lifting her chin with his finger he says "you have instincts that I have never seen before.  You are a force to be reckoned with I can tell.  Plus you will have me and my father there to help you."  Eli stares into her emerald eyes.  He was hoping she could feel the truth in his words.

    Violet nods. Then breaks the intense stare. They start walking again. "So what did you do for the pack?" She asks changing the subject.

"Well, Alex told you I help train the new wolves.  I also am in training to be a warrior for the pack." Eli says proudly.

    "A warrior.  Isn't that dangerous?"  Violet was unsure why she concerned about that.

"It can be I guess.  However, warriors help protect our pack and our Alpha.  That's important to me." Eli says with passion in his voice.  "I would do anything to protect you.  I mean to protect our alpha and pack members." Eli quickly tries to cover up his confession.  Just then Violet gasped.   Right ahead of them in the path was a bunch of twinkle lights in the trees.  A blanket was lying on the ground with a lantern, plates, and picnic basket.  She saw a speaker close hanging in the tree and soft music was playing from it. "Do you like it? It's not too much is it?" He asks quickly.

    Violet didn't know what to say. No one has ever made this much effort for her.  "It's beautiful, magical really.  You did all this for me?" 

"I thought you have had a hard time the last few months and you deserve something special." Eli is looking at her.  She was glowing with happiness.  He was enthralled by the beauty of it. Without thinking he pulled her close to his side and gave her a small squeeze. He then took her hand and led her to the picnic. "I am not much of a cook so I hope you don't mind potato salad, ham and cheese sandwiches, and mixed fruit." 

    "It's great really!" Violet said.  He gave her a sandwich and they plated their food. "Can I ask you something?" Violet asked as they ate.

"Vi, you can ask me anything," Eli said with sincerity.

    "Why the change of heart?" She asked quickly so she didn't change her mind.

"What do you mean?" Eli asked drawing his brows together.

    "When we met four days ago." Violet started. Then thought man has it only been four days. " you seemed upset by my presence.  Then you helped me when I phased.  Then again you seemed annoyed at the idea of helping me again.  Yet concerned when I was upset. Then today and tonight.  Do you like me or what? I feel like I am getting whiplash."  She held her breath afraid of his answer.

"Violet," he looked into her eyes. "I have always liked you.  I just felt conflicted.  However, someone very wise pointed out the flaws in my conflict yesterday." he smiled, took a deep breath then continued. "There are things you don't know about being a wolf because you have not lived with your pack.  So I am going to explain something to you.  Do you remember the day I gave you the letters?" Violet shook her head. "I got angry because you touched my brother.  I told you I was going to tell you something you may not like." She once again nodded unsure of what to say. "When a wolf shifts for the first time they are considered fully matured.  This means all of there wolf nature and instincts are complete.  Well, one of those things has to do with finding your mate."  Eli looked at the look of shock on Violet's face. "It's not exactly what it sounds like. You see wolves have something like a soul mate.  Someone who completes them.  When they meet their mate it is like all of your feelings are intensified.  You see them and all you want is to be with them. To see them happy and to protect them.  Violet when you shifted I realized you were my mate."

    Violet had so many thoughts going on inside her head she didn't know what to say. Lettie spoke up He is ours! I was right.  He is our mate. Our everything. This made Violet smile because for some reason this all seemed to just click. Everything else she had been through none of it made sense but this did. "So we are soul mates. That's why when I saw you I felt at ease.  That is of course until you would piss me off." She said with a grin.

    Relief flooded Eli's body. She is smiling and not rejecting the idea Eli thought. "Your not upset?"

"Why would I be upset. This is the first thing that has felt normal in this whole experience.  Eli you did all of this for me." She gestured to the lights and picnic.  "No one has ever treated me this way. " She smiled again.  "So whats next? When you find your mate are you then instantly in a relationship? Because if I am honest I may kill a b***h if I see someone else with you."

    This brought a huge grin to Eli's lips. "The feelings mutual. However, there is a lot more to this mate thing to make it official and I am not sure it is first-date appropriate." Eli informs her turning a bright red. Realization hit Violet as a blush bloomed on her cheeks.  Eli then stood up. "Ready for part two of the date?" He asked holding out his hand.

 "There's a part two" Violet said taking his hand and standing up.  

"I had hoped this would go well." He pulled his phone out of his pocket and pressed a button.  A familiar song came on. "Would care for a dance?" Eli asked.

    "I would love to," Violet replied with a giggle.  Eli pulled in close and started swaying to the music. "I love this song." Violet whispered in his ear. Sending a thrill through them both.

Eli leaned in and sang softly to the music "And we danced out there on that empty hardwood floor." Pulling her in tighter.  She could feel every part of him up against her body. He has an amazing voice she thought I could listen to him forever. Eli stopped singing and looked down at Violet. His eyes full of lust "Violet I should have kissed you this morning.  Can I kiss you now." She nodded and he leaned down giving her a soft kiss. She leaned up closer pulling him down for another long kiss.

    A way down the path someone was watching. Careful not to cross the boundary line.  "Boss, we could take her now." said one of the men.

    "Wheres the fun in that Drake.  I want to toy with them first. Before I take that young mans mate!"
