Chapter 21 

Challenge

   "It has been two weeks Christoph. I think it is safe to have me spar with others. You even told me yesterday that I had caught up to the she-wolves my age."  Violet was pleading her case with her beta.  

"I understand Violet but Eli really doesn't like the idea and he is Lunar." Christoph started but Violet stood up straighter flexing her authority as Alpha and held up a hand.

    "Who is Alpha?" She asked.

"You are Alpha." Christoph replied.

    "Does a Lunar hold more power than an Alpha?" She asked watching her beta and mate's father fall into her trap.

"Well no they hold power over others but Alpha's hold more authority." 

    "So am I not being listened to because I am a female Alpha and Eli is a male Lunar or is it because I am not demanding it with my Alpha command. I value your opinion Christoph but either one of these reasons is wrong." Violet said feeling her blood boil.

Eli get your butt in here now! 

"I am sorry Alpha I did not mean to undermind any authority." Christoph said as his son walked in.

    Violet instantly turned on him. "So you are telling my beta not to train me with the others? Have you decided you are Alpha or do you think I am too weak to handle the other She-wolves?"

Eli looked at his father. A little help here?

Sorry, son you are on your own. You better tread lightly. 

    "I never said you were weak you are very strong," Eli says cautiously. "I just don't want to see you get hurt. You haven't been training long."

"So you are going over my head then and deciding what is best for me. I am not only your mate Eli I am Alpha and you need to remember that!" Violet exploded.

    Eli looked at his hands unsure of what to say to make it better.  Violet walked towards the two men and decided all that can be done is to go full-blown Alpha to show her power and strength. "I will be training with the other she-wolves today and that is final. I have listened to both of your concerns. However, my pack must see me as strong and this is the most important way of doing that."

Both Eli and Christoph bowed there head then replied "Yes Alpha" to her command. Christoph left the office   "See you in an hour for training." Eli stayed behind.  There was a look of pain visible in his face making Violet feel bad for pulling rank.

    "You know I never meant to take your power from you, Violet. It is my job as your mate to protect you." Eli said still looking down at his hands.

"Your protection has to be balanced by my ability. I will not apologize for being right. I will, however, apologize if I hurt your feelings." Violet said looking at her mate intently she did not want to hurt him ever but what he did was wrong.

    "You didn't hurt my feelings." He looked up at her and stared directly into her eyes. "You have never used your Alpha command on me before.  It was hard on me because you may not know this but I like to be in charge. Also, it was kind of a turn on." Eli's blue eyes darkened slightly.  He licked his lip and walked towards Violet. Wrapping her up in his arms just so he could be close to her.

    "I am still angry. You have to start treating me as your Alpha not just your mate.  Your male ego can't get in the way."  Violet tried to pull away but he wouldn't let go.  

"Kiss me, Alpha" Eli asked with need in his voice.

    "Are you commanding your Alpha?" Violet's voice said playfully.  She shoved him "I answer only to myself."  She then turned away from only to be pulled back and kissed hard by Eli.

    Violet walked out to the training grounds with confidence as the other she-wolves looked at her in surprise.  They thought that she couldn't hear their whispers but they underestimated her hearing ability. "look the Alpha finally decided to join us." was one of the loudest whispers she looked around to see Liz standing towards the back of the group with two other teenage girls and to her surprise Alex was standing next to her.  She noticed Violet looking and wrapped her arm in Alex's.  What is she up to Violet thought. Eli and Christoph were standing at the front of the group.

    "Ok, ladies we will start with a run to warm you up.  You must stay in your human form and follow the marked path.  There will be surprises throughout the path.  The first one back will get the honors of the first spar. " Eli directed the group.  He looked down at Violet and she thought she detected concern but it vanished quickly. "Ready, get set, go!" 

    Off they ran to the marked path. Violet was confident in her running skills she had always been a runner winning state competitions for the cross country team all four years of high school.  She got out ahead of everyone quickly.  She kept her senses sharp remembering what Christoph had told her about hunting parties and need to be aware of everything.  She could hear the others behind her.  Ahead of her, she could hear the hum of something electric.  She looked closely and noticed a wire at ankle hight about 10 yards ahead.  She was able to leap over it and miss the first trap. Just then she saw something out of the corner of her eye.  It lept towards her side. She quickly spun and kicked the sandbag away from her.   

    She was about half a mile away from the first trap when she started hearing some girls yelp from the shock of the electric line and a few whaps of the sandbag.  She decided to pick up the pace watching for more traps. She soon heard running coming up behind her.  "Nice run huh Alpha." Came a voice that made Violet cringe.  

"I didn't know you were training with the girls Liz." Violet said still trying to concentrate.  She saw the flags on an alternate trail and turned on to it leaping over the fallen log just beyond the bend.

    "Alex convinced his father to let me.  Now that I am strong again.  Alex is really sweet don't you think."  Violet knew she was trying to distract her so she picked up the pace.

"He is an amazing young man.  Now if you can excuse me." Violet said pulling ahead.  She saw a cut out of a man slam out in front of her.  She thrust her shoulder into it breaking it in half.  It slowed her enough for Liz to be right beside her.  Liz stuck out her foot and trying to trip her but Violet saw it coming and dodged the leg nimbly.  She could see the end of the path coming and picked up the pace.  That's when Violet felt a hard blow to her back knocking the wind out of her. She whipped her head back to see Liz grinning deviously with a rock in her hand. Violet turned around and lunged at Liz growling. "I am Alpha. Are you challenging my authority?" 

     Liz burst into tears as she fell to the ground dropping the rock "I would never Alpha why would you say that." That is when Violet saw Alex coming up the path.  "Alex I think Violet hates me she was running ahead of me then turned around and lunged at me knocking me down." She whimpered.

    Alex ran towards her picking her up. "Violet, are you having flashbacks again? I can't believe you would hurt our guest."  Alex looked hurt and worried all at the same time.  

    Violet turned and ran out of the path back to the field where Eli looked at her with concern. I heard you growl. Than Alex mind linked you attacked Liz is that true?

Eli you have to, believe me, she threw a boulder into my back and I lost control.  She is out to get me. Eli nodded in understanding and went over to his father.  

    Soon Alex had put Liz down and the other she-wolves were coming out of the forest looking a little worse for wear.   Liz walked over to the two girls that she had befriended spinning her lies about Violet they all looked at her in shock.   Violet stood tall they will not pull her down.  She tightened her ponytail and walked towards her beta he mind linked her Violet are you ok? 

I am fine just worried about what to do with her.

I am afraid if you kick her out know it will make you look like you are covering something up. Do you trust me enough to help you show what kind of person she is to the others?

Of course, I trust you, Christoph.

Alright just follow my lead.

   Ladies your Alpha was the first out of the path so she will be up to spar first. Normally she would pick her own opponent to challenge. Today however we will be asking if there is anyone who would like to challenge her.  Liz jumped up and shouted "I will spar Alpha Violet. "

Works like a charm Christoph linked Violet.

You are a clever man. Violet responded.

Now all you have to do is win and do it fairly. I can guarantee she will not play fair she has yet to spar and win fair and square.

  "Liz thank you for being my first sparring partner," Violet said loudly. "I am very excited to see what you got." 

"Oh, Alpha the pleasure is all mine." Liz spat back.

"Alright ladies, the rules are no breaking bones, no headshots, and no extra help." Eli said pointedly "The first to get their opponent on their back the sooner and pinned wins.  One more thing keep this honorable no attacks when their back is turned." 

    Christoph had them shake hands and then the fight began.  

    As soon as they said go Liz shifted into her wolf and lunged for Violet.  Violet grabs Liz's muzzle and threw her to the side. Liz quickly lunged at Violet's side knocking her to the ground.  This pissed Violet off.  She shifted while leaping back up off the ground and snarled.  She stalked around in a circle never turning her back on Liz.  Liz nipped at Violet's legs trying to make her off balance but Violet was faster. So she could not get ahold of her.  All of a sudden Liz lunged for Violet's neck.  Violet moved fast making her miss her neck but planting her teeth into Violet's shoulder. Violet yelped in pain. Then anger took over.  She could feel the power of her Alpha blood coursing through her veins.  She ran towards Liz with her head down ramming into her chest knocking her to the ground.  She quickly leaped over the top of her putting her foot on her neck. Suddenly Liz phased back to her human form surprising Violet. Liz grabbed Violet's leg with one hand then slammed her other arm into the other side of the leg causing a loud cracking sound ring through the air. Violet howled out in pain than with her other phased back herself. She was laying on her gound anger filling her whole body. "They said to play by the rules Liz. You broke my leg." Violet looked at her leg and the bone trying to break through the skin.

    Liz snickered "Maybe you are not strong enough to be Alpha, Violet if you can't handle a little sparring." 

    Violet sees the color red as anger takes over her body. All of a sudden Liz is in the air like someone was holding her up by her neck but no one was there. Violet was glaring at her and standing on one leg with her hand outstretched squeezing. Liz grabs at the air around her neck but there was nothing there.  "Violet Stop!" yelled Alex.Violet then realized it was her holding her up but not physically, mentally. 

    Liz falls to the ground. Alex runs towards Liz. "What the hell was that!" She screams "you almost killed me."

    That's when Violet passed out from pain and exhaustion. The last thing she heard was Eli yelling for the medics.
