Daniel lay in his bed, staring up at the ceiling as he replayed the events of the day over and over in his mind. He couldn't believe that Avery had kissed him, and he couldn't help but wonder how far things could have gone if Constance hadn't interrupted them. His heart raced as he thought of the feel of her lips against his, and the scent of her still lingered in his nostrils. He knew that he was falling hard for her, but he also knew that he had to put a stop to it before things got too far out of hand. "Love isn't meant for people like us," he reminded himself, his voice harsh even in his own mind. "We're hunters, and our lives are meant to be solitary.
