Chapter8 Out Of Danger

Shalini watched everything with deceptive tears in her eyes and deep satisfaction in her heart, for she successfully achieved what she wanted to. She thought she won but little did she she know that God had other plans.

The neighbor got some water and Naav sprinkled it on her face but Maithili was still unconscious soon she stared rubbing her feet and just then the driver arrived and he was panicked to see Maithili in that state. Naav asked the driver," Bahaddur, can you please help me lift her up and let's take her to the hospital."

Bahaddur and Naav carried her to the car and the neighbor offered that she too wanted join them so that she can be of some help and Naav accepted her help and soon all of them drove off to the hospital.

Maithili was taken to the emergency on the stretcher right away.

After a while , a nurse came out asking for the patient's relative. Soon Naav came forward and said,"I am Navneeta Kashyap and I am responsible for her and you could tell me anything related to the patient."

Nurse looked at her questioningly but did'nt ask her anything instead she just directed her to Dr viraj's cabin.

Naav walked to Dr Viraj's cabin and gently knocked at the door. She walked in when heard the doctor say ,"come in."

Naav said,"Dr Viraj?"

Dr Viraj looked up at her and asked her to take her seat. Naav felt ill at ease, she was on tenterhooks. She could sense something was not right. She swallowed hard and asked," Dr Viraj, how is Maithili?"

Dr Viraj taking a deep breath said," Ms ...."

Naav interrupted and said," Kashyap, Navneeta Kashyap."

Dr Viraj continued," Ms Kashyap , the patient has sustained head injury which is of prime concern and we don't know the extent of the damage to her brain so we need to run some tests and do her MRI in order for us to move forward with her treatment and for that we need consent form signed by her direct relative or whoever will be paying for her treatment."

Naav said , " I am the one paying for her treatment, Dr Viraj. Please start the tests and everything that need to be done right away."

Dr Viraj forwarded the document for her to sign and Naav going through the document signed it. Then he asked her to make the necessary payment at the front desk.

Naav was heartbroken and apprehensive. She knew Shalini did'nt care about Maithili if she lived or died. If she had to call her or her Dad it would only delay the treatment if anything and she had to call the shorts and take responsibility and she did'nt want to delay the treatment as time was crucial. She did'nt want anything to happen to her friend and it was the question of her life. So she did what she saw fit and took responsibility for her without thinking twice. Naav made the payment upfront for Maithili 's treatment.

The neighbor who had accompanied Naav to the hospital came to Naav as soon as she finished all the formalities and sat next to her.She was very concerned about the poor girl. She knew everything about Maithili's suffering. She asked, " How is Maithili?"

Naav said ," We don't know anything yet and she broke into tears."

Neighbor said," My name is Sharada. Now, what I am going to tell you is very important. I know you are her friend and I can see how concerned you are about Maithili. This fall was no accident. Shalini had spilled something on the floor where Maithili slipped. I saw it with my own eye.I didn't suspect when I saw her doing something there this morning but only realized when she fell and I also collected sample of the stuff she put on the floor secretly before coming here with you."

Naav was rattled by the revelation,her blood ran cold. She knew Shalini was the worst scumbag but she had never pegged her for a murderer. This was a case of attempted murder. She was stupefied and didn't know what to say.

Sharada continued, "Beti( daughter)I can understand your predicament. Right now what is more important is Maithili's health and her treatment. I will help in every possible to bring justice to the poor girl. I have asked my son to take pictures of the place where she slipped and we can also get the cctv footage.We have installed security cameras at our door which would have captured everything as it is right in front of the staircase."

Dr Viraj came out of the emergency ward and strode towards where they were sitting.

Naav stood up and the doctor walked closer and told Naav that, Maithili had sustained concussion and it was not very serious but still it would take a week or more to heal completely.

During all this time neither Maithili's parents had come nor had called Naav to enquire about Maithili. Shalini being a perpetrator why would she bother calling which was understandable but what about her Father?Even though Maithili had a father still she was an Orphan. Naav did'nt think it was necessary to call them to inform about Maithili's condition.

Naav wanted to call the police to lodge a complaint but was not sure if Maithili would be OK with it as it was her family after all. she had doubts about going to the police. Maithili had woken up but Naav did'nt want to tell her anything yet. All Naav wanted at this point was Maithili's well being and for her to rest and recover and not worry about nothing.

So Naav did what she saw fit and called her Papa and told him everything and he would surely know how to handle the situation.
