Chapter5. Survived

Raghunandan arrived at Calgary and his friend, Dr Dhawal Jaiswal had picked him up from the airport and had also talked to his friend who was a police officer,Captain Patterson and asked for his help which he had gladly agreed to.
Dhaval had invited Raghu to stay at his place and Raghu had accepted. They both drove to Dhaval's house. Raghu wanted to rush to the hospital where all the victims were admitted but Dhaval beat to it and said that he has to talk to the police before visiting his Dad because the victims were well guarded by police and anyone who is family or friend can visit them only after getting the permission from police and it was for the safety of the victims.
Both the friends reached home and Dhaval showed Raghu to his room and asked him to freshen up and come downstairs for breakfast .Raghu quickly finishing his morning abulations and getting ready came down to the dining room to find his friend already waiting for him with breakfast ready at the table.
They both had breakfast .Even though Raghu had no appetite he had a toast with coffee just to not disappoint his friend who had made the breakfast putting in so much effort.
Later they both left to the Police station to meet with capt Patterson. However, capt Patterson was not there but there was another officer who was an assistant to capt Patterson who greeted them and told that he will be helping Raghunandan with completing the formalities before seeing the victum .
Taking Raghu's ID and other information to confirm his identity ,he showed all the pictures of the deceased with their information which was a sheer torture for Raghu.He was a nervous wreck. The fear of "what if" was killing him. But fortunately his father was not one among the deceased which brought him great relief.Then he showed the information of people who were admitted to the hospital and there he saw his Papa's information and picture. Raghu sighed a breath of relief when he learned that his Papa survived.
All three left to the hospital to see his Papa who was still in coma after a long surgery. He was shot in his shoulders and chest just missing the heart and other vital organs narrowly.
Just before more damage incured the police intervened and took control which was the reason he was alive today.
All three arrived at the hospital and was guided by a nurse to the ICU where his father was being treated. Since Dr Dhaval worked as a surgeon there, he went in tagging along Raghu after changing into sterile scrubs.
Neerav was still under the influence of anesthesia and was expected to gain consciousness anytime soon. He incurred a huge blood loss so he was given blood transfusion. Raghu's heart contorted painfully seeing his Papa in this condition.
He talked with the doctors who were treating his Father and confirmed that everything was immaculately taken care of.

Naav
Naav went in the Durga Maa's mandir (temple) along with Maithili praying for her Father's health and long life. The duo had gone walking bare feet to the temple which was 10 miles away from Naav's house. After the priest performed the Arthi to Goddess Durga he offered the girls, the arthi and Prasad .
Just then Naav's phone rang . She immediately answered the call, "Bhaiya??" Raghu perfectly understood her inner turmoil which was evident in her voice.
He said," Papa is out of danger, Batchi. He was shot but luckily he got help and was rescued at the right time .He has undergone surgery and multiple bullets were removed and now he is still in coma but nothing to fear."
Naav burst out in tears of relief.The stress that she had endured in past couple of days was insurmountable. She was so overwhelmed that she could'nt form a coherent word.
Raghu continued ," Naav, We are very lucky that Papa survived. Don't cry Batchi, he will be fine soon. Still we are not revealing anything to Naani yet,ok?"
Naav controlling her sobs but still hiccuping said,"As you say Bhaiya. Be safe and take care of yourself and please keep me updated."
Raghu said, "Ok Batchi, you too take care and I will call you soon."and he ended the call. Naav felt as though a boulder was lifted off her chest.
Maithili was standing next to her looking at Naav anxiously.Naav pulling Maithili in a hug said,"Papa is safe,Mitto. Maa Durga heard our prayers. " and broke into sobs again. Maithili too shed her happy tears and both girls hugged each other.

Naani
Naani called Savithri(cook, whom Raghu and Navneeta addressed to as Savithri Maa)to bring her some tea . Naani had just finished her prayers after her bath and was reading news paper.
She looked up from the newspaper the moment she heard the door open to find Savithri coming in with a tray in her hand. She came in and placing the tray on the side table, she asked "Krushna Maa(Naani's name) I got you some tea, biscuits and also your medicine. Do you need anything else?"
Naani said,"nothing, Savithri. Hmm... are you busy?"
Savithri answered, "not right now . I just finished preparing curries and rotis and I have put the rice and lentils to cook. untill it's done I have nothing to do."
Naani said ," then come sit here with me."
Savithri pulled a chair and sat next to the bed on which Naani was sitting leaning her back on the headboard.
Naani sipping her tea asked Savithri ,"why everyone is hiding something from me?"
Savithri who as ignorant as Naani said,"Krushna Maa,you are worried for no reason. I don't know why you think that there are hiding something? "
Naani smiled and said, " Well, I am not doubting but I am sure of it."
Naav and Maithili sauntered into her room all smiles and giggles and Naav hugged Naani and said, " A very good morning to you Naani."
Naani said, " Goodmorning both of you, you girls seem to be happy, whatever the reason."
Maithili and Naav opened their mouths to say something Naani beat them to it and said, " I know."
