"Jim, you need to train harder. You’re becoming too lazy," I snapped at the 17-year-old teen whose mother had pleaded with me to train him so he could become one of the soldiers.
Jim groaned as he slumped down on the floor, pulling at his socks in a bid to make himself more comfortable. I placed my hand on my waist as I watched him sulk. These things were going to be the end of me. They never understood anything, and they made it a point to be so stubborn.
"Jim, get up and train," I snapped.
He groaned. "I’m tired, Beta Evelyn. You’re making work too much. I should be with my friends right now, and..."
"No, you shouldn’t be with them because they aren’t the ones who would be the future soldiers of the pack."
He mumbled something under his breath, and I tried not to pick up his words. I looked around the field in frustration. "All right, go back home. Tell your mom that I would like to see her," I said simply.
I feel Jim’s clammy hands on my arm, and I shrugged him off at once. "What?"
"I’m sorry, but don’t tell mom about this. She is obsessed with turning me into a soldier, and I don’t know if I can bear the whole thing," he whined.
I rolled my eyes. "Look, just do as I say. If I don’t see your mom by the evening, then I would assume that you didn’t tell her, and it wouldn’t be good for you," I said at once.
He lowered his head down in defeat. This was much better. I couldn’t take care of a teen who didn’t want to train and better the skills he already had. It was a f*****g waste of time, and my life was so messed up that I didn’t wish to get stressed uselessly.
Carefully, I walked the short distance to the pack house as I kept readjusting the sleeve of my shirt. The damn sleeves wouldn’t behave, and it was so freaking stressful anytime that I pulled at it. Maybe I should just burn the cloth? But it was one of my favourite pink shirts. No, I wouldn’t burn it.
"Come and join us for breakfast!"
Taking a step back as I tried to curtail the shock that I got from Gamma Liam’s voice, I looked around the house. He had four slices of bread squeezed tight as it made its way to his mouth. Werewolves had the tendency to eat a bit too much. But it wasn’t Liam that got my attention. It was Alpha Raven, who was seated beside him, taking a cold coffee. Yes, I knew it was cold because that was his way.
Alpha Raven didn’t look up at me once, and I was reminded of my attitude last night. He must still be angry with me.
"Eve, don’t just stand there! Come and enjoy this delicious toast bread with me!" Liam cried once more.
I took a deep breath. "I would pass. I’m not that hungry," I whispered lightly.
"Did you hear her, Rav?" He asked in disbelief.
I sighed as I pulled at my hair. "Seriously, I’m not hungry," I whined. I let my hair slide down my shoulders and slowly looked at him. "I have some things that I need to sort out right now. I’m going to see you guys later," I whispered firmly as I made my way to the stairs.
"Stop."
Why did Alpha Raven speak to me that way? There was something about his tone that made me slightly anxious. I slowly turned around, and his eyes were as cold as ice.
"Alpha Raven, I..."
He lifted one of his hands, stalling me from my words, while taking a small card from the table. "I have understood that you don’t want to mingle with us since last night, and I won’t force you."
"No, that is not it. It’s just that I have been really busy," I managed.
Alpha Raven scoffed in response. "You were so busy, right?" I nodded lightly. "Then, why did you go over to the Moonlight Depths Pack yesterday to see Alpha Alarick? Weren’t you busy then?"
"It was my personal work, and there is no need to keep talking about this matter. If I wished to say something about it, then I would have spoken up about this last night," I said stiffly.
Liam let his spoonclatter harshly. "So, you have to be f*****g rude to make your damn point now?" He snapped.
I shook my head as I tried to speak, but nothing would come out. Rubbing my hands on my arm, I tried my best to use my eyes to convey how much he was overreacting, but still, he was glaring at me.
"Liam?"
He turned to Alpha Raven then, bowing lightly. "Alpha Rav," he muttered slowly.
"Let it go," he said simply. Then he turned to me, stretching the card in my direction. "Since you went to the Moonlight Depths Pack yesterday, I believe it won’t be difficult to officer this invitation card to Alpha Alarick on my behalf. My birthday would be here soon, so we have to make everything balanced," he said tersely.
I bow lightly at that. "Yes, Alpha," I mumbled.
I moved over to him, taking the card from him. I know Alpha Raven was annoyed at me, but I still couldn’t divulge why I went to Alpha Alarick. He had not accepted me as his mate yet, and he was so upset with me, even when I didn’t do anything to him. Telling my pack mates about it would only make things worse for me because the news would spread, and I would be called the scorned mate.
That was something I couldn’t take after everything that I have been through. With that thought in mind, I ran up to my room and proceeded to change my outfit into an uptight white shirt and black pants. Alpha Alarick mustn’t make a mistake in assuming I came to him because of my needs.
No, he must realise that if he didn’t want me, I wouldn’t stop my life and mop around for that very reason!
