Leaving Rosemary's house, I went into the car and quickly drove away. I didn't want to stay for long. My presence could compromise Rosemary. I was aware of the work she was doing, the face she carries when she wasn't with me. Being an outcast was something that brought her terrible pain. She told me all about it after our first night together. We connected on an instant when we first saw each other. It was quite amazing, and so has been the intimacy.
Carnage, on the other hand had left his bride to starve. He left her alone in a pool of darkness. So when I found her, I tried to fill his place. But it wasn't enough. She wasn't my mate, I wasn't hers and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't see her more than a dear friend whom I shared a bed with. I always had a feeling she felt differently. She was getting attached. c*****e did not know of our relationship, altogether I had no idea how he would react if he did. Would he be nonchalant, or would he suddenly become ravaged with jealousy?
I drove off towards the West Bank of St Christopher's. There was someone I wanted to meet. She had given me her card at the nightclub. Technically, I took it from her purse but that didn't really matter. Lyra, was it? I promised her a call but in a situation like this, I needed to be far away from the vampires and the werewolves as far as possible. Radcliff was probably summoning the council on me this moment. What he had learned isn't a minor issue. If I were in his shoes, I think I would have done exactly what I thought he was doing. I looked at the card properly. Her house address was written on it. Nevertheless, badging in on Lyra's house was not cool. She might probably think I am a stalker.
"Where are we going?" Jonathan suddenly asked.
"Somewhere." I replied.
"Where exactly?"
"Do you always talk this much?"
"Should I just keep quiet while you drive me to heaven knows where?"
"I just risked my life and my status to save you. Right now, I have vampires and werewolves following my trail. You better start trusting me or I might was well just deliver you to Radcliff."
"Fine. But this trust you speak of has to go both ways. You need to give me something. I hate being in the dark. Literally."
I sighed. He wouldn't just let it go.
"We are going to see a friend. I met her in a club and now we are going to pay her a visit."
"You're taking me to one of your mistress' house? Why not go to a hotel instead?"
"Hotels are all compromised. There is a werewolf in every sector in this town. That is the safest option."
I said took the final turn. Then I was driving along an estate. Lyra sure knew how to spend her money. When I got to the address printed on the card, I parked the car, walked out and motioned Jonathan to do same. I walked towards the door and rang the doorbell. It took a moment before Lyra showed up, dressed in a red nightwear. Her hair was nearly packed, and I saw a tattoo of a little bird just above her Cleavage. She looked surprised to see me. Honestly, I did not think she would even remember.
"What do we have here?" She asked, confusion mixed with a little bit of irritation.
"Hi. I am so sorry for showing up like this. Truth is, my nephew and I was just passing by and he really needed to take a dump. Fortunately for us, you live close by." I said and looked at Jonathan who wasn't so pleased with the idea.
"Oh! Let's not keep the gentleman waiting now, shall we?" Lyra said and opened wide. She led Jonathan to the bathroom and he shot me another look before he reluctantly went inside. Lyra then came close as I texted my address to Rosemary. The helicopter should arrive anytime soon.
"If you wanted to see me you could have just said so." She said and smiled.
"Ofcourse I wanted to see you. Ever since our conversation at the bar, I have been enchanted." I said. I really needed her to believe my lies
" Oh really?"
"Yeah."
"Well, I think you are lying. I think you did not even want to come at all. Somehow I feel like there's more to the story. Who are you exactly?"
Now that was a question I did not want to answer. But I could play along
"You are right. There is more to the story. I am actually a billionaire who has more than enough money to last four lifetimes. I was thinking of the perfect car to get for you before I asked you out on a date. But my nephew really needed to take this dump." I said and laughed. She laughed too. She bought it.
"Well, why don't we discuss over wine?"
"No wine please. Not today.".I said and laughed again.
Suddenly, I heard the sound of a helicopter whirring up above the roof. Jonathan heard it as well as he quickly stepped out of the bathroom. Lyra looked surprised.
"We have to go now. But I'll call you. I promise." I said and kissed her cheek. Then I dashed outside with Jonathan. The helicopter was still hovering above the roof. I looked around and made sure no one was watching. Then I grabbed Jonathan and jumped up, flying straight into the open door. Rosemary wasn't inside but I told the pilot to get us somewhere far away. I felt a powerful battle ahead. I only hoped I had enough strength for what was coming.
