I drove my car down to my mansion. If I didn't know better, I would say Jonathan wasn't in any way hurt earlier. I still wondered how he healed that fast. Vampires could heal fast, and so could prime alphas. I felt his pulse, there was nothing. He was dead. How did he come back to life?
Before I drove in, I took a quick survey around my house. There was a chance that vampires could follow me there and since I did not want to take any chances, I placed some garlic around my house. Vampires were allergic to garlic and it also had the ability to dampen their senses. I then drove inside, observing the elated look on Jonathan's face as he took in the mansion I lived in. I know, it's a lot. I practically built the most expensive house in St Christopher's, and the money came from the insane profits I made in my business. I was rich, very rich.
"Is this where you live?" Jonathan asked
"Why? Too humble for you?" I joked, but somehow, the boy did not understand my joke. I swallowed and nodded in embarrassment as he shot me a glare. That was exactly how Alma looked at me whenever I had done something silly.
"This is the biggest house I have ever seen in my life, and I have seen a lot of places. How much did it cost to build this place?"
"A billion, maybe two. I don't know."
"You spent a billion dollars on a house? Is there advanced technology built in or something?"
"There is nothing of such. It is just a normal mansion, with very expensive antiques."
"Oh! Okay."
We walked towards the door, and upon detecting my presence, the door unlocked and opened. The lights came on, revealing the magnificent lighting that adorned the first floor. Jonathan's mouth was wide open. Infact, the house would make anyone seeing it for the first time to stare.
"Where are the servants? You do have servants in this house don't you?" He asked.
"No, I live alone."
"That is very funny. There's no way you live alone in this house."
"I do. Is that so hard to believe?"
"Yes, it is. You are a billionaire. People would give anything to work here."
"They would. But I don't want people."
"So you're some sort of loner?"
I shot him a glare and he immediately diverted his attention from me and began looking at the paintings on the wall. One in particular was my favorite; it was about the christening of a baby boy and the priest officiating was a werewolf. The artist used my very werewolf form for the painting. Of course it terrified him to find out I was a werewolf but I made sure I payed for his silence.
I walked towards the bar and poured myself a drink. It was blood ofcourse. My shoulder hurt like hell and I needed a large amount of blood to heal myself. I took a full bottle from the fridge. Jonathan walked towards me and watched as I gulped down the full bottle. Then I felt the pain in my shoulder wear off.
"Do I want to know what you're drinking?" Jonathan asked as he paid close attention to the bottle.
"No." I calmly replied.
"It's blood isn't it?" He asked but I did not reply.
"How did you become a werewolf? How are you my uncle? I have never heard from you since I was born. Why did you wait till now?"
"Wasn't it obvious?"
"You knew the vampires were coming for me. How?"
"Your mother told me to find you. So I did. I didn't know the vampires would be there."
"My mother? Where is she? Is she alive?"
"She's dead. She died the day you were born. Then I took you to the orphanage, payed your fees and here we are."
"That doesn't change anything."
"What?"
"You sort of abandoned me there. I always thought I had no one. You never even cared to visit. What kind of an uncle abandons his nephew?"
"The kind that didn't want you to get hurt. Somehow people close to me always get hurt, one way or another and I am usually the cause. First it happened to my mother, then my sister. I didn't want the same for you."
"You aren't entirely honest. I can tell. It's how I survived in the streets for so long."
"Streets? I payed everything to make sure you were well taken care of."
"You know, if you do not check on your property, people tend to misuse it. The orphanage kicked me out when I was ten. I have been surviving on my own ever since. I have been living in the streets so for the past ten years, some other person has been spending that money."
I could not believe what I heard. I wanted to go to that orphanage and rip them all apart.
"So you got into medical school?"
"Oh no. I stole those. Some robbers usually come to me for patch ups. I make some extra money from it."
I slowly removed my coat as my mind ventured to what I experienced in the car. Since the vampires were clearly after him for something, I wanted to know why.
"Do you know what the æye is?"
"No. Am I supposed to know?"
"You tell me. When your mother came to me, she called you the æye. I suspect that was the same reason why the vampires came for you."
"Do you think they're trying to make me one of them? I don't want to drink blood for the rest of my life." He said and I shot him another glare.
"No offense." He quickly added. I sighed
"Look, all I can say is you are important to them. They would've bring an army just to turn a mere human. I still need to find answers."
"Okay, from who?"
Suddenly, we heard a loud explosion outside. I was instantly alarmed. I looked through the glass door and saw dozens of vampires outside my house. They were all dressed in black robes, with silver swords hanging at their sides. They held guns which I knew had silver bullets in them. They weren't supposed to find me. Those garlic should have dampened their senses and make the house practically invisible to them. How did they find me here?
I grabbed Jonathan's arm and dragged him with me as I went into my weapons storage. I took a pair of shotguns, a sword and some grenades.
"Can you shoot?" I asked Jonathan
"No."
"You grew up in the streets among bad people and you can't shoot?"
"It's not like I followed them to do bad stuff. I only patched them up. But I can drive excellently."
"Fine. Go to the garage and get a car out. I'll be waiting outside."
"Are you sure? There are a lot of them and just one of you. Why don't you just come with me to the garage? Besides, I don't know where the garage is."
"Those parasites trespassed on my property. They shouldn't have."
I suddenly felt a rush of adrenaline. They were close. They were surrounding the house, making sure we could not escape. I made my way to the living room and saw some of them walking stealthily into my house. They walked like ghosts. I didn't hear a sound. I removed the pin from the grenade and threw it to them. It blew some of them up but the others immediately opened fire. I returned fire and killed them with one shot each.
Then a grenade was thrown into the living room. I quickly dashed to it, grabbed it and threw it back. It exploded outside and I wasted no time in opening fire on the ones I saw. Some of the vampires escaped but I quickly threw a grenade after them as well. As it exploded, a powerful force knocked me towards the other side of the room. I regained my balance in mid air and landed safely but my arm was dislocated. I snapped it back into place and looked at my attacker.
For a moment, I couldn't breathe. She stood a few feet away from me, with a pair of swords in her hands. She had the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen. Her outfit clung to her body tightly, showing the great curves which didn't bother to hide themselves. From a distance like this, I usually perceived the stench that came from vampires but she had no stench, she smelled like lilies. A natural anger overwhelms me whenever I see a vampire, but I did not want to hurt her. I don't even want to fight her! I just wanted us to lay down our weapons and consummate this affection for my beast was heated up already. It was like a feeling I have never felt. It was intense, powerful, addictive.
But when she jumped and struck me, I put away the shotgun and drew my sword to block the attack. She was an excellent swordsman and her attacks were precise and deadly. I blocked them all but she sent a kick to my face and another punch sent me crashing on to the kitchen cabinet. I stood up immediately and barely dodged the sword she had threw at me. Then I heard the sound of a car outside. Jonathan had gotten the car out. I threw a grenade at her which she caught and threw back at me. I then kicked it away and it exploded, sending a wave that swept us both off our feet. I recovered as soon as she did and I jumped through the window outside. I dashed towards the car but the vampires were already trying to rip it apart with their bare hands. I ran faster and slicked some of them with my sword. Others opened fire but I knocked the bullets away and got into the car immediately Jonathan opened up for me. He drove away at full speed but behind us, she was running towards the car, and she seemed to be catching up. She jumped and I heard her land on the car. Jonathan suddenly pressed the breaks and she fell of. Then he drove towards her and she jumped over the car, but this time, she did not follow. She just stood with murderous intent, glaring at the car.
