Luna’s heart hammered in her chest as she stood frozen in place, caught between two realities: the normal world she had always known, and this nightmare turned reality. The moment stretched on, thick with tension. The Alpha’s eyes never left hers, and in those eyes, she saw something she hadn’t expected—vulnerability. But it was gone in an instant, replaced by cold, calculating intensity.
"Run," he repeated, his voice now laced with something darker. The command was not an option. It was a warning, and one Luna had no choice but to heed.
But she didn’t move. She couldn’t. Something inside her was tugging her toward him, toward the danger he represented. As if her feet were glued to the forest floor, she could do nothing but stare at the man who had a presence so overwhelming it seemed to bend the very fabric of the night.
The battle was over now, the creatures retreating into the shadows. Luna could feel the weight of their gazes on her, but it was the Alpha that held her attention. His chest rose and fell with slow, deliberate breaths, and as he approached, the ground beneath her feet seemed to vibrate with the raw power he exuded.
"You shouldn’t have come here," he said again, this time softer, but no less commanding. His voice was like a low growl, dark and dangerous, but there was an undertone of something else—something that made her pulse quicken. "This is no place for a human."
Luna opened her mouth to protest, but the words died on her tongue. How could she explain what had brought her here? How could she even begin to explain the pull she felt toward him, something beyond her control?
Before she could form a response, he stepped closer, his towering figure shadowing her. She could feel the heat of him, the power radiating off of him like an electric current. Her breath hitched, and she instinctively took a step back, only to stumble.
He reached out instinctively, his large hand closing around her wrist in a grip that was firm, yet strangely gentle. Luna’s breath caught as his touch sparked something in her, something deep and ancient. Her mind raced as she struggled to make sense of it all—how did he feel so familiar?
"I don’t want to hurt you," the Alpha murmured, his golden eyes flickering with something Luna couldn’t quite understand. "But you’re in danger now. From me. From them." He looked toward the retreating figures in the shadows, his jaw clenching in frustration.
Luna didn’t understand. Danger from him? He had saved her, hadn’t he? Yet, a part of her instinctively recognized that this man—this Alpha—was no ordinary person. He was something other, something powerful, and perhaps even dangerous in ways she couldn’t yet comprehend.
"What are you?" she whispered, her voice trembling with a mix of awe and fear.
For a long moment, Kael didn’t answer. He seemed to be struggling with something, a battle within himself that Luna could almost feel. Then, he finally spoke, his voice low and edged with pain.
“I’m the cursed Alpha. The leader of the Shadowfang Pack.” His eyes locked onto hers, his gaze intense. “And you are my mate.”
Luna’s breath caught in her throat, her mind scrambling to process his words. Mate? No, that couldn’t be possible. She was just a normal girl—wasn’t she? She didn’t know what it meant to be anyone’s mate, especially not someone like him. She opened her mouth to ask what he meant, but the words wouldn’t come. The air around them seemed to thrum with energy, as if the very earth was waiting for her response.
Kael exhaled, his grip on her wrist loosening just enough for her to pull away. His eyes softened, and for a brief moment, Luna saw the weariness in his gaze. As if the weight of the world rested on his shoulders.
“It’s not safe for you here,” he said again, stepping back. “You don’t know what you’ve just walked into.”
Luna shook her head, her mind reeling. The words mate echoed in her mind, but she couldn’t quite grasp their meaning. Her heart was still pounding, and her body still hummed with an energy that felt like it was tied to him, to this world she had stumbled into. But it was all too much, too fast.
"I don’t understand," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "What are you saying? I’m just... just Luna. I don’t know anything about this."
Kael’s expression hardened, and Luna could see the struggle in his eyes. He was trying to protect her, but Luna didn’t know if she even needed protecting anymore. What had she gotten herself into? More importantly, who was she becoming?
Before he could respond, a sharp howl pierced the air, distant but unmistakable. Kael’s head snapped toward the sound, his eyes darkening with a mixture of fear and anger. Without another word, he turned to leave, but not before glancing back at Luna.
“Stay close,” he said, his voice urgent. “And whatever you do, don’t trust anyone. Not even me.
