Prometheus Device

Andreas and his three companions were reassigned to investigate a matter ordered by General Sinclair. They infiltrated a predetermined location after gathering at headquarters. “We’re leaving tonight,” Andreas confirmed to his three companions—Tania, Kane, and Victor. They had all agreed. They got ready and went on high alert. The Shadow Ares underground complex was a high-tech bunker hidden beneath remote mountains. Red lights flashed, warning of an intrusion threat, as Andreas and his team moved silently through narrow corridors surrounded by holographic screens projecting global nuclear data. The night sky was pitch black, casting a shadow over the remote mountains where the Shadow Ares headquarters was hidden. Andreas and his team—consisting of Tania, Victor, and Kane—crept along the thick concrete walls, weapons at the ready and eyes on high alert. The four of them were elite soldiers whose skills had been proven in military units. General Sinclair hoped that his special team would not fail this mission. A cold breeze blew from the large vent they had forced open. Inside, the hum of machinery filled the air. “Clear the way!” Andreas whispered to Victor. His eyes remained fixed on the dimly lit hallway ahead of them. Victor nodded silently. He attached a small explosive to the metal panel sealing the door. Three seconds passed. Before the soft sound of the explosion filled the hallway, he cleared the way into the control room. “It worked!” Victor told Andreas. “Good,” Andreas replied. Behind the door, a large room with glass walls offered a truly breathtaking view. All four special teams were stunned by the sight. “So, this is what they call the Prometheus Device,” Victor confirmed. “It sure looks like it. It’s a giant spherical machine with a tangle of cables and mechanical arms that are constantly moving. Its blue light kept pulsing across its surface and filled the air with a tense energy,” Andreas observed. Tania headed straight for the main console. Her deft hands danced across the touchscreen, which displayed a world map with blinking nuclear icons on five continents. “They’ve already synchronized all the silos. One command, and a global war will begin immediately. I need some time to deactivate the system,” said Tania. “Are you sure you can handle it?” asked Andreas. Tania nodded firmly. “Okay.” Andreas was relieved after confirming this. Meanwhile, Kane and Victor moved to take up strategic positions on either side of the room. They stood guard to ensure no one entered and disrupted Tania’s concentration—at least until she had cracked the numerical codes on the touchscreen. “Don’t give them a chance to get in!” Andreas ordered. Victor and Kane obeyed his command. Before they could move any further, a secret door at the far end of the room opened with a soft hiss. Andreas, Victor, and Kane instinctively turned their heads in the same direction. Out of the darkness, a man emerged. He was tall and well-built, with a confident gaze. His face was marked by fading scars, but his eyes remained sharp. Andreas and his three friends reflexively turned toward the figure and watched what was unfolding before them. “Welcome, Captain Andreas Wilson. It’s been a long time,” the man greeted him. Andreas’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Ethan Cross?” Andreas whispered. Victor and Kane exchanged confused glances. “Does he know him?” Kane asked Victor, seeking confirmation. “I don’t know,” Victor replied, shaking his head. Ethan gave a small smile, his stride steady as he approached the center of the room. “Andreas, my friend. It’s been a long time. I thought you’d forgotten me back then.” “Weren’t you… in Turkmenistan? I saw your body get blown up,” Andreas recalled. He tried to remember the events from when they were still on the same team during a military operation in Turkmenistan. “Your memory is sharp.” Ethan drew even closer. “I did die there. But now I’ve been reborn and I’m standing right here,” Ethan said with a bitter smile playing on his lips. “Why are you here?” Andreas asked in surprise. “This world is full of corruption and lies. We once tried to fix it their way, but we failed. Now, I have the Prometheus Device. That’s the answer. We can erase the old chaos and create a new order. What do you think?” Ethan explained. “That’s not a solution for peace, Ethan. That’s a m******e,” Andreas argued. “Peace only comes after war. You know that too. I’m just getting a head start, before they do,” Ethan replied confidently. Tania hissed through the communicator, “The final code is locked. I need direct access to the primary controller, but we’re running out of time. Any ideas?” Victor turned his head, his eyes dark. “Just one shot, Andreas. Just say the word. I can finish this right now.” “Wait a minute, don’t be rash!” Andreas protested. Andreas didn’t take his eyes off Ethan for a moment. “You can stop now. Don’t make me be the one to stop you.” He had already warned Ethan. Ethan shook his head slowly, his eyes full of conviction. “If you want to stop me, then you have to be willing to lose everything,” he offered. Ethan raised a small detonator and pressed it. The Prometheus Device began to vibrate violently. The blue pulse turned red and emitted a blinding light. Sirens wailed. On the screen, the nuclear symbol began a countdown. “No!” Andreas leaped forward, trying to snatch the detonator from Ethan’s hand. They wrestled at the edge of the platform, but Ethan delivered a hard kick, sending Andreas flying onto the floor. Victor and Kane stood ready to protect Andreas. “You fool! I warned you, Andreas!” Ethan still wasn’t satisfied. He stepped back, standing at the edge with a smile that was still haunting. “Goodbye, Andreas. This world will be mine from now on,” Ethan said before leaving. Andreas grabbed the edge of the platform, which was beginning to collapse, breathing heavily. Meanwhile, Tania’s panicked voice rang out behind him. “I can’t stop it. The manual destruction code. Only he has the key!” Tania cried out. Victor and Kane sprang into action. Suddenly, a group of men in all-black suits burst through the door and blocked the four of them. “Damn it! Why did they come in a group?” Victor cursed. “Get ready! We have to take them out first,” Kane replied. Andreas gripped the edge of the platform tightly as it began to c***k. Dust and shards of metal rained down into the dark chasm below, which had already begun to split open. His heart raced in time with the warning sirens blaring throughout the building. Meanwhile, above him, Ethan was still holding the detonator with a triumphant smile. “How much longer are you going to hold out, Andreas? The choice is simple. Join me, or fall along with the old world you’re trying to protect. Decide right now!” Ethan urged. Andreas growled, his eyes fixed intently on his old enemy. With a single kick, he propelled himself upward, spun around, and swung his fist toward Ethan’s hand. The detonator was sent flying into the air. “Surrender? You’ve got to be kidding!” Andreas sneered. Both men staggered. Andreas attacked, Ethan parried, and the two men grappled with each other in a fierce battle on the brink of destruction. In the control room, Victor and Kane were fighting a group of men dressed entirely in black—presumably an elite unit from Shadow Ares. Kane fired with precision, taking down two enemies who had sprinted out of a dark corner, but even more were closing in. “Watch your back!” Kane shouted at Victor, firing at the enemy approaching his partner. Victor spun around, deftly dodging a blow, then struck the enemy’s helmet with the butt of his gun. “Damn! There are too many of them. We need a way out,” said Victor. Kane replied, half-smiling despite the dire situation. “In that case, let’s scare them first.” He threw a smoke grenade into the center of the room, filling the air with thick smoke. That was Victor and Kane’s chance to break free from the bad guys’ encirclement. At the main console, Tania kept racking her brain. The final code to stop the Prometheus Device changed every five seconds. “Damn! It turns out the algorithm was designed to be unpredictable,” Tania said in a panic. Sweat soaked Tania's forehead as she tried various combinations. Her hands began to tremble, and time was running out. “Come on, come on....” Tania hissed. The sound of the siren grew increasingly piercing. A screen warned, [Global activation in 60 seconds.] Shortly afterward, the room’s security system went into full activation. From the steel walls, mechanical arms equipped with laser sights began to move, targeting the intruder. Red beams shot out, cutting off the escape route and destroying the remaining equipment. “Andreas, we’re trapped,” Tania shouted through the communicator. “This system has turned into a maze. I have to hack it again to deactivate the automatic weapons.” There was no response from Andreas. Tania shouted again. “Can you hear me?”
