Andreas and his three teammates were reassigned to investigate something that had been ordered by General Sinclair. They infiltrated a predetermined location as they gathered at headquarters.
“We go tonight,” Andreas ordered his three team mates, Tania, Kane, and Victor. They had all agreed.
The Shadow Ares underground complex was a high-tech bunker hidden beneath a remote mountain range. Flashing red lights warned of intrusion threats as Andreas and his team moved silently through narrow corridors, surrounded by holographic screens projecting global nuclear data.
The night sky is dark, casting a shadow over the remote mountains where the Shadow Ares base is hidden. Andreas and his team-Tania, Victor, and Kane-crawled along the thick concrete walls, weapons c****d and eyes alert. The four of them were handpicked soldiers who had proven their skills in the military.
A cold wind blew in from the large vents they had forced open. Inside, the hum of engines filled the air.
“Victor, open the way!” whispered Andreas as he ordered him, his eyes fixed on the dimly lit hallway in front of them.
Victor nodded silently, attaching a small explosive to the metal panel sealing the door. Three seconds passed before the soft sound of an explosion filled the hallway, opening the way to the control centre room.
“It worked!” Victor announced.
Behind the door, a large room with glass walls presented a stunning view. It appeared to be the Prometheus Device, a giant spherical machine with a tangle of wires and mechanical arms in constant motion. Blue light pulsed along its surface, filling the air with a tense energy.
Tania headed straight for the main console. Her deft hands danced over the touchscreen that displayed a world map with nuclear icons flashing across five continents. Of course, she understood the digital screen before her. She was very smart.
“They've aligned all the silos. One command, and global war is about to begin. I need time to deactivate it,” Tania said.
Andreas nodded, while Kane and Victor took strategic positions on either side of the room. They were on guard to prevent anyone from entering the room and disrupting Tania's concentration. At least until Tania finished the numeric codes she had to unlock.
“Don't let them in!” Andreas ordered. Victor and Kane nodded firmly.
Before they could move any further, a secret door at the end of the room opened with a soft hiss. From the darkness, a man emerged-tall, well-built, with a gaze full of conviction. His face was decorated with fading scars, but his eyes remained sharp.
Andreas and his three friends reflexively turned their heads and saw what was happening before them.
“Welcome Andreas Wilson. Long time no see,” the man greeted.
“Ethan Cross?” Andreas whispered, incredulous. Victor and Kane exchanged clueless glances.
“Does Andreas know him?” Kane asked Victor for confirmation.
“I don't know,” Victor replied, shaking his head.
Ethan smiled a little, his steps steady as he approached the centre of the room. “Andreas, my friend. It's been a long time. I thought you had forgotten me.”
‘Weren't you... in Turkmenistan. I saw your body get hit by an explosion,’ Andreas recalls. He tries to recall what happened when they were a team in a military operation in Turkmenistan.
“I was already dead there. But now I am reborn and standing here,” Ethan replied, a bitter smile on his lips. “The world is full of corruption and lies. We've tried to fix it their way, but failed. The Prometheus Device is the answer. We can erase the old chaos and create a new order.”
“That's not peace, Ethan. It's like a m******e,” Andreas argued.
“Peace only comes after war. You know that too. I'm just starting first, before they do,” Ethan retorted.
Tania hissed over the communicator, “The last code is locked. I need direct access to the primary controller, but we're running out of time!”
Victor turned his head, his eyes dark. “One shot, Andreas. Just say the word. I can finish it now.”
Andreas did not take his eyes off Ethan. “You can stop now. Don't make me stop you!” He had warned Ethan.
Ethan shook his head slowly, his eyes full of conviction. “If you want to stop me, Andreas, you have to be willing to lose everything.”
Ethan lifted a small detonator and pressed it. The Prometheus Device began to vibrate violently. Blue pulses turned red, emitting a blinding light. Sirens wailed. On the screen, the nuclear symbol began to count down.
“No!” Andreas jumped up, trying to grab the detonator. They grappled at the edge of the platform, but Ethan kicked hard, sending Andreas crashing to the floor.
Ethan stepped back, standing on the edge with a still haunting smile. “Goodbye, Andreas. The world is mine now.”
Andreas grabbed the edge of the collapsing platform, his breathing heavy. Meanwhile, Tania's voice rang out in panic behind him. “I can't stop it! Manual destruction code. Only he has the key!”
Victor and Kane sprang into action. Suddenly, a group of men in black suits burst through the door and confronted the four of them.
Andreas gripped the edge of the cracked platform tightly. Dust and metal fragments tumbled into the dark abyss below, which had already begun to split open. His heartbeat races as the warning siren wails throughout the building. Above him, Ethan held the detonator with a triumphant smile.
“How long are you going to hold out, Andreas? The choice is simple. Join me, or fall with the old world you're trying to protect. Decide now!” Ethan urged.
Andreas growled, his eyes glaring at his old enemy. With one swing of his legs, he pushed his body up, twisted, and swung a fist at Ethan's hand. The detonator was thrown into the air.
They both staggered. Andreas charges, Ethan parries, and the two men wrestle each other in a fierce battle on the edge of destruction.
Meanwhile, in the control room, Victor and Kane battle a group of men dressed all in black who are thought to be elite Shadow Ares troops.
Kane fires a bullet with precision, taking out two enemies running from a dark corner, but more are coming.
“Victor, watch your back!” shouted Kane as he opened fire on the enemy approaching his friend.
Victor twisted around, dodged the blow deftly, then smashed the enemy's helmet with the butt of his gun.
“There's too many of them! We need a way out!” Victor said.
Kane replied, half-smiling despite the gravity of the situation. “Then let's scare them off first.” He threw a smoke grenade into the centre of the room, making a thick fog fill the air.
It was a chance for Victor and Kane to escape the bad guys.
At the main console, Tania continued to rack her brain. The final code to stop the Prometheus Device changed every five seconds. s**t! Apparently the algorithm was designed to be unpredictable. Sweat beaded on her forehead as she tried various combinations. His hands began to shake, time was running out. It could run out.
“Come on, come on ....” Tania hissed. The sound of sirens became more piercing.
A screen warned: “Global activation in 60 seconds.”
Suddenly, the room's security system was fully activated. From the metal walls, mechanical arms with laser eyes began to move, targeting the intruders. Red fire shot out, cutting off escape routes and destroying remaining equipment.
“Andreas, we're trapped!” Tania shouted over the communicator. “This system is turning into a maze! I'll have to hack in again to disable the automatic weapons!”
