Beth was caught in the haze between awareness and sleep. The room was cold and dark, except for the bedside lamp she had turned on before sinking to the carpeted floor and refusing to get up again. Of course, she hadn’t just given up after Abaden locked the door and walked away. Beth had tried the door and then the window, both in the bedroom and the ensuite bathroom.
