To Santiago’s frustration, the anonymous number stayed silent, his message marked unread. It was possible the person behind the number had discarded it after sending the message for fear of being tracked, which would mean Santiago had no way of contacting them, or indeed, tracking them, although the idea hadn’t occurred to him until that very moment.
