Acting Innocent

790 Words
Lillie's POV: I couldn't do it. I couldn't leave him there defenseless. I knew the reason everyone was acting weird, I wasn't supposed to but I did. Today was the day that Jay would change, for the better I imagined. I knew what this town was. I was in the same boat, not that anyone knew that. My kind had been 'extinct' for centuries.  So I continued to be me. Just like everyone expected.  Then I noticed it, he really was changing.  He ran off and I stood there for a second. What am I supposed to do? I actually care for him. I'm sorry. So I ran after Jay.  *                                                                                 *                                                                                                      *   I let Jay put his hand on my thigh. I knew he needed it there. "We're here. Jay?"  I looked at him through my peripherals to see his sweaty pale face. His eyes were plastered open but he looked tired. It's like my touch was keeping him awake. He looked up at his house. His now blonde tipped hair sat in perfect waves on his head, how I wanted to run my hand through it. His honey brown eyes slowly moved from his driveway to meet mine.  His hand moved slightly. I shifted. He was delusional. "Jay, happy birthday." I guessed. I needed to know if it was his birthday, he would never tell me, no one did. His eyes widened.  "How-" was all he could manage to say. I looked up at the 2 story house. Its white concreate exterior was completely different to anything I had ever lived in.  I smiled and got out of the car walking around to help him out. Struggling I managed to get him to the front door ringing on the door bell. Mrs. Criket answered. Her hands few to Jay's side and she called out something I didn't catch.  I was starting to feel woozy.  "Mrs. Criket, he... He almost dropped outside of school," I said.  She sighed, "Thank you Lillie. You know what is coming you should go home. You're human adn his girlfriend. It's not safe for you." "But-" "Lillie!" she growled her eyes glowing a dark shade of brown. I clenched my hand into a fist. Human? Please.  I may smell and look like one, but human I am not.  I was about to reply when Mr. Criket took Jay out of my arms and I saw all of Jay's muscle strength leave him. "Please. Is he going to be ok?" I pleaded.  Mr. Criket half turned his body to look back at me, "He'll be fine. But you being here won't help anything. He is going to run straight to you when he transforms so you need to go." What he was saying made sense but I didn't want to leave. With both of Jay's parents threatening me I did.  I drove back to school but the day went slowly.  "Brian!" I called out to him. I needed to keep up the façade of being clueless. Only Mr. and Mrs. Criket knew that I knew. They said it needed to stay that way otherwise everyone could be in trouble.  "Lillie?" he asked wearily.  "What's wrong with Jay? I had to drop him home but Mr. and Mrs. Criket kicked me out." I said looking into his eyes.  "Lillie. I-" he started but Sasha cut him off. "He doesn't know. So why don't you just ask Jay yourself? Maybe he is avoiding you," Sasha spat at me. She didn't like me because I started dating Jay and not her.  "I think Brian can speak for himself," I snapped more rudely than I intended. I tried to make a point to be kind to everyone but I'd had enough of her crap. "Next time shut your trap." Her mouth hung open and she stepped back. She wasn't me to say anything back.  "Truly Lillie I wish I could tell you. But I can't," he said not giving me a reason why. Of course I knew why but I couldn't tell him that. It would put everyone in trouble. Mostly the Criket's though and I didn't want that. They had treated my like family the whole time I had been dating Jay, I couldn't turn my back on them now.  I just sighed making it look like I was Jay's worried girlfriend who had no clue what was going on. And I was his worried girlfriend but I knew exactly what was wrong with Jay. He was turning.   Author's note:  Hey guys. Sorry this update is kind of all over the place but I hope you like it.  Sorry not sorry about the cliff hanger :) hehe. I'm sure you can understand why he is turning though ;)
