An hint of terror

723 Words
When the gunshots rang out, the atmosphere immediately got tensed. Everyone nearby were startled, humans and animals alike. A group of five, consisting of three men and two ladies, rushed out of their tents, a middle aged man was in the lead. The expression of slight fear and thorough confusion were vivid on their faces. They all paused quite a distance away, the two ladies were even visibly fidgeting. As they all wished to know what had happened, they know they dare not inquire indiscriminately. Therefore they had no choice but to turn to the one they see as their leader. “Mr cole, what do you think happened. Were we attacked?” An archaeologist named Boyle couldn’t help but ask curiously. This questions made the others turned their intent gazes to the middle aged man, Mr Cole. They seemed to be wanting to ask the same question. But at that same moment, the questioned Mr Cole was lost in shock. 'He really did it.. he shot the kid. Is he that desperate?' Mr Cole's mind were full of disbelief but he dared not make it known. A few minutes passed before Mr Patterson finally broke the silence that went on for too long than normal. He mocked, as he covered his mouth with his left hand; "Holy s**t! Never did I believe the tough kid will go down after a bullet or two hehe" He chuckled Making a disappointed face "Guess I was wrong. Well, it’s really your fault you know. Only if you had cooperated and tell me what secret this ground holds, we wou....." Borden slowly replied "You.. will.. die!!" cutting Mr Patterson amidst his speech making his face distort in anger. "Hahahaha" Mr Patterson couldn't help but laugh out loud crazily in surprise and anger. Few people could cut him short while speaking you know. His face turned serious all of a sudden. "I guess you have no use for me anymore. You don't even know how to live or die. Don't blame me for your misery, asshole!!" Ending his proclaim with visible anger on his face. His men still pointing guns at Borden, ready to shoot anytime, just an order away. Borden kept silent for a few seconds before raising his head up, staring straight into the eyes of every single person in front of him, exuding pressure. "You think you can harm or control us with those scrap metals you are holding huh? Slowly and confidently standing up straight, he continued; "Men like you, having these.. these toys, thinking they have everything called power beyond most hehehe.. stupid" Mr Cole narrowed his eyes, hearing that speech made him feel quite uneasy. He had a feeling, a lingering feeling that things won't end simply. He only felt unnerved the more he observed what was happening. The next moment, Borden's gaze became sharper, his expression turned unusually calm and the almost imperceptible lopsided angry evil grin never left his face, making those men restless, sensing something was wrong but they couldn't sniff it out. Still steadying their aim, they couldn't wait to pull their trigger. But they couldn’t take actions out of wits, but wait for their boss's orders to act. The next moment, they all started feeling a very strong and unshakable goosebumps all over their body. Spreading out his hands majestically was Borden, grabbing their full attention again, he declared; "Let me give you the taste of power.." paused, then he continued "true power!!! Power wider than your widest imagination hehe" he crazily cackled out quite loud. His voice deep and fierce like a warrior, shaking their souls and crumbling their smug look. A stark contrast to his image few moments ago. Mr Patterson couldn’t not help but become wary. Even a calculative man like him felt a hint of terror. Immediately after completing those words, the goosebumps increased to an unimaginable rate. Their senses screaming danger! They even partially lost control over their body. They were all too late to react. Mr Patterson lost himself for a few more moments and that was enough for things to go eerie.. really eerie. Stomping his feet lightly, with his arms still spread out widely like the god of death spreading his concept on a battlefield, where blood flows every seconds and death is widely delivered, and highly inevitable.
