***Con*** Two weeks, that's how long I have been here. We are still staying at the shelter. I talked with Nix, and he is in agreement that we should stay here. I don't think Trevor will find me here as long as I lay low. That's why I haven't gotten a place yet. I know some like to run background checks, and I don't want him to use that to find us. The plan was to save up some more money then hit the road again, thinking I needed more miles between us and him, but Monica thinks we will be safe here I want to believe her im just hesitant not cause I think she would lie to me, but with all I have been through in the last ten years My trust in words just isn't there yet, "Hey hun, have you heard back from the home schooling program yet?" Monica asked as we sorted the dishes I just pulled off a table, "No, not yet, thanks again for letting me use your email and the address here," She had let me use the diner's email so I could contact this place for homeschooling for Nix. I was waiting for them to send me the box of books and supplies, which was coming here to the diner. "Dont mention it, we dont use it that much anyway, he can come to work with you, we can set him up in my office, Im hardly in there." I wiped my hands. "Oh, I would hate to impose on your space." She waved her hand at me, "It's fine really, Im always out with the customers and in the back helping cook, so he is more than welcome to it. I know if he stayed at the shelter, he wouldn't get his work done," I nodded, agreeing with her. He's good about school, but he is ten after all, and the place is busy during the day. Patting my shoulder, she slipped out through the doors. I follow a few minutes behind her as I start to wipe down the bar, then begin to put the clean cups away under it. "Hey darling," Looking up, I see Drinks coming over, taking a seat on the stool, "How ay doing?" These two weeks, I've gotten to know him. He even met Nix the other day, and Nix took right to him. Drinks showed him his bike and talked to him for over an hour. "Hey Drinks, Im good, what are you up to?" "Nothing much, a few of us are stopping in for some lunch, so it'll probably get loud in here. These assholes cant behave in public." I laugh. But inside fear crawled its way up, He held his hands up, "No worries darling, they are harmless, just loud." Well, s**t, he must have read my face. I need to do better at hiding my emotions. "Where's that boy of yours?" "Oh, he's not here today." "Well, shoot, I thought I'd show him the other guys' bikes, some have some really cool detail and are decked out, figured he'd like them," I couldn't help the smile at hearing he thought of Nix, for a biker, he was a sweet person. "Maybe next time," He tipped his chin as I heard more rumbling as bikes pulled into the parking lot, "It's okay if we drag some tables together in the back?" "Oh, um, yeah, there aren't a lot of people in here, so," He winked at me, then stood up and walked towards the back, calling something out to Monica, and she flipped him the finger. I laugh then shake my head, The afternoon rish was already done so them all piling in here wasnt a big deal, The bell chimed but i didnt look up as i heard the familair sound of heavy boots against the hard floor, I couldn't hold the tremble my body that sound was one i always fear Trevors boots sounded the same when he was stomping through the house, I could always tell his moods by that sound, Sucking in a breath, I forced on my task, putting the clean cups away, Dont look at them. They dont know you. You are safe here. I kept repeating in my head, AS i moved through the diner cleaning up tables and refilling coffee and taking orders, I couldn't help but feel the heat of eyes on me, it was like it was burning straight through me, I shook my head, No, He cant find me here. Spinning around, I finally lift my eye scanning the place when then locks with a pair of icy blue ones, My breath caught in my throat as I took him in. His huge frame filled the chair; he sat at the table top, only coming up to the middle of his stomach. Holy hell, he must be tall. His wide shoulders were covered by a tight, dark blue shirt with his leather kutte over it, He had black hair that was neatly trimmed up and a day-old scruff on his chin; he was all man. His stare was intense but not mean, he was studying me just like I did him, I had finally got myself under control and made my feet move, taking myself back behind the bar area where I was out of sight of his piercing eyes, Monica slid up next to me, and her hand came out, looping her arm with mine, "I want to introduce you to someone. I know you are not a fan of new people, but I would like you to meet him." Looking over at her, "Who?" "His name is Rock, he is the President of the Iron Horse, and he is a friend of mine and my late husband." I scrunch my brows together. Why would she want me to meet him? "Why?" I couldn't stop the shaky sound of my voice, "Im not trying to push you into anything. He can help you find a place and stay off the radar like you want to, I know that why you are still staying at the shelter. He knows people who will rent to you without running your name." "Oh," She tugged me along with her out from my hiding spot. I kept my eyes down as she led me. I could hear all their voices booming as they filled the area. My fear swirled, threatening to burst out of me, She stopped, but is still kept my eyes down. I didnt want to look up, not with all this fear flowing through me. Oh god, I couldn't do this. "Con, I want you to meet Rock... Rock, this is here is my new hire, Con, she is in the market for a house or apartment. I thought you could help her out with that." I didnt raise my head to look at him, "Sugar, how can I help you if you wont look at me?" God his voice stirred something in me, it was deep and steady and so manly sounding, that, oh sweet Jesus, Con get it together, women. Taking in a deep breath, I slowly lifted my head. When I saw the same blue eye looking at me, my stomach swirled. Oh s**t, "So you need a place?" Swallowing, "Yes," I whispered. I felt like my throat was dry. I watched the corner of his eyes crinkle a bit when his lips tipped up, "What are you looking for?" Breathe Con before you pass the hell out, letting out a small breath, "Something small, it's only me and my son." I see something flash in his eye, but it's gone before I can place it. "Just the two of you? No boyfriend? husband?" Shit....shit....shit... Slowly, very slowly, so that I thought I would choke, I swallowed, shaking my head. "No." I say breathless, "Just us two," He seemed to study me for a moment, but then nodded, "Let me see what we have, and I will get back with you. Were you staying?" I could find my words, as I felt like someone punched me in the gut after he asked about a husband, I did but I couldn't tell them that I mean Monica knows but I cant tell another biker a President at that I was married to one like him that was from another club, He could force me to return to Trevor. "She is staying at HOPE, for now," Monica spoke up for me, I watched as he nodded, pulling out his phone, looking down at it. Monica let go of my arm; that was my cue to turn and rush to the back and out of that man's presence.
