Chapter 3

"I'm tired." Brittany did not want to deal with them anymore, so she turned and walked away. Timothy caught up with her and asked, "Where are you going? My friends, Noah and the others, are throwing a welcome party for Aunt Jessica at Flux Club. Come with us." She let out a cold laugh. "This is to welcome her, not me. Why should I go?" "Brittany! You were never this uncooperative before! If it were not for our wedding, Aunt Jessica would not have put her business aside and rushed back! And yet now you are being this rude!" It was the first time Timothy had ever lost his temper with Brittany. Brittany looked at him, just as her tears were about to fall. Jessica walked over gracefully and took hold of Timothy's arm. "Don't be like that. You should be gentler with a young girl. Brittany, come with us, all right?" Brittany was pulled along to the parking lot. Just as she was about to get into the car, Timothy opened the front passenger door first and let Jessica sit there. "Aunt Jessica gets carsick. You sit in the back." Brittany said nothing and went straight to the back seat. Anyway, it was all about to end. He could do whatever he wanted. "Wait." Before Jessica got in, Timothy even adjusted the seatback for her. Jessica said in surprise, "I can't believe that after all this time, you still remember my habits." Timothy's voice was unbearably gentle. "Of course. I will always remember the things you like. And this too. I was afraid you might get carsick, so I prepared your favorite oranges in advance." He opened the storage compartment, picked out the best orange, and began peeling it with practiced ease. Jessica smiled and said coquettishly, "You even remembered that I like eating oranges in the car. And I have always hated those white strings on them, but every time, you peel them off for me completely. Timothy, you are so sweet!" Watching Timothy's movements, Brittany felt as if someone had dumped a bucket of ice water over her head. She had always thought Timothy only treated her that way. But now she finally understood that all the ways he had been good to her were fake. Over the past three years, all the love she thought she had felt had never belonged to her at all. Tears slowly slid down her cheeks. Brittany bit her lip hard, refusing to let herself cry out. Just then, her phone suddenly vibrated. It was a message from the manager of the bridal shop they had visited before. The woman had sent her a whole batch of wedding dress photos for her to choose from. Manager: Miss Oxford, these are the wedding gowns you looked at before. Please take a look and let us know which one you would like for the wedding. The wedding? Brittany had almost forgotten that the date for her wedding to Timothy had already been set. But now, she did not want to marry him anymore. Brittany: The wedding between Timothy and me has been canceled. I will not need a wedding dress anymore. Thank you. "You little rascal, you are about to get married and you are still so playful! I think Brittany is a very good girl. You must treat her well!" "Aunt Jessica, how long are you staying this time?" "How long do you want me to stay? I'll leave after your wedding is over. What, are you reluctant to let me go?" The two people in the front kept teasing and laughing with each other, completely ignoring Brittany's feelings. Brittany did not interrupt them. She simply found the number of Timothy's grandmother, Estelle Callahan, and sent her a text message. Brittany: I'm sorry, Mrs. Callahan. I would like to cancel the wedding with Timothy. The very next second, Estelle called. "What is going on, Brittany? Why do you suddenly want to cancel the wedding? Where is Timothy? Where is that brat? Let me talk to him!" "This is my decision. I want to cancel it, so please do not ask him. I'm sorry. I have something to deal with right now. I'll come see you later and explain it to you in person." The moment Brittany hung up, Timothy had already turned around to look at her. "Who were you talking to? What were you saying you wanted to cancel just now?" "Nothing. I just canceled something unimportant."
