THE DEADLIEST ASSASSIN: SECRET CHAPTER 3 Shane was about to speak when a voice suddenly rang out. GUARD 1: “Don’t move! Hands up!” Kai simply smirked and glanced at Shane. KAI: “There are many of them—some thirty, by my count, and only two of us. Fair game.” Shane pulled her hood down. Her mask slid away, revealing eyes dark and steady, not a flicker of fear in them. SHANE: “Kai… I thought you died in that fire at the training camp five years ago.” Kai smiled, utterly calm—as if the guns aimed straight at them were nothing at all. Slowly, he lowered Shane’s hand still gripping her knife. KAI: “I was the one who survived.” He held up the Joker card once more. “And you? You vanished without a trace. I’ve been searching for you ever since… I know your calling card. You are Phantom. No one else.” He stepped closer. “So I ask you again… will you kill me here? Or will you use me?” Shane had no answer—for suddenly… BANG! A shot rang out. Shane yanked Kai down, and they tumbled to the rooftop together. “Thanks, Shane. You saved my life.” He was on his feet in an instant. Shane moved first. Her hand flashed to her side, drawing two knives. A guard fired at her—she dodged, and with a single fluid motion, hurled one blade. It found its mark; the shooter fell dead. Another fired. Shane caught the bullet on the steel guard of her knife, deflecting it. She sent her last blade flying, and that gunman too fell still. “To your left,” Shane said. She spun, and in one clean motion, slit the throats of the two guards rushing at her. They crumpled. Kai meanwhile stood unarmed. He snatched a rifle from a guard, snapped the man’s arm, then turned the weapon on the three behind him. Headshot. Headshot. Headshot. KAI: “I’ve spent five years looking for you, Shane! And now that I’ve found you…” He elbowed an attacker hard. “…I will help you tear them down. With the evidence you carry!” He fought on, and ten guards fell by his hand. Fifteen remained. The guards drew their knives—close combat had begun. Shane whirled and flipped through the air. She drove blades into chests and struck jaws with sharp, bone-shattering kicks. She breathed hard, yet her composure never wavered. “Why did you search for me?” she asked, her voice even. Kai drove his fist into a guard, sending him crashing into the wall. “Because you are the only one who ever understood me. We are the only ones who lived.” Ten down. Suddenly five guards charged Shane all at once, driving her back toward the rooftop’s edge. One more step and she would fall. She smirked. “You think this is where I end?” She drew her knife and cast it—striking one man through the throat. Then she leaped, landing in the center of their formation. All five collapsed. Twenty-five down. Five left. The last five drew together, trembling. GUARD 2: “Fall back! They are demons!” Shane and Kai stood back-to-back, moving as one, mirrored in perfect sync. Blood stained their faces, yet neither bore a scratch. Kai raised his gun and aimed at the remaining five. “Welcome home, True Heir. It is time to take back your throne.” Shane’s smile turned cold and deadly. “Blood for blood.” Together, they opened fire. Rat-tat-tat. Rat-tat-tat. In thirty seconds, silence returned. Thirty bodies lay strewn across the rooftop. Only the wail of alarms and the drip of blood upon stone broke the stillness. Kai handed Shane a black USB drive. KAI: “I made copies of every file you hold. A backup—so that should you fall tonight, the truth will still live on.” His grin widened. “But it appears you are not dying today.” Kai pulled her toward the rooftop edge. Together, they vanished into the shadows below. Behind them, the alarms blazed and screamed. THE DEADLIEST ASSASSIN: SECRET CHAPTER 3 Shane was about to speak when a voice suddenly rang out.
