51 Derriford Hospital was, as all hospitals were, endless corridors with too many doors and unpronounceable signs leading to waiting rooms packed with glum people watching daytime TV or reading magazines months out of date. Slim made his way through the labyrinth to the intensive care unit where he sought out a duty doctor. There were times when it was best to wear a disguise and others when total honesty was most important.
