“ I swear you are a disappointment to me and this entire family!!” My dad yelled at me.

“How could you accuse one of my top clients… ! This was an important deal and you have to mess it up you self center little piece of ....”

“STOP!” I yelled “ Dad you can see the bruise on my cheek. You heard when I screamed …. you came in there and saw him pulling up his pants .. dad… how can you not believe me…”

“ don’t call me dad my child would not cause me to lose this deal…. would not disrespect and disobey at every turn.” He yelled.

“Dad ple….. I whispered while hugging myself.

He glared at me and said “you are one of my greatest regrets.”

I stood there looking at the persons I love the most, silently begging them to believe me to believe me to choose me. The evidence that Nicolas tried to r**e can be seen on my face where he hit me, his hand print around my neck where he held me, and by my rip clothes. But, yet still my dad looks at me like I messed up, my mom looks at me like am I disappointed and my sister looks like she would rather be anywhere else but here. I realized that right here at this moment reflects my entire life. I am the one that always try,try to be perfect to fit in . I love these people more than my own self and yet still they can’t even embrace me and hold me and tell me that it’s going to be ok. 

“Guys!? Where is everyone?” Kev yelled from the living room. My dad looked at me and then at the door as if he was trying to hide me. Just as he was about to say something Kev walked into my dad’s office.

“Why is everyone…?” He started to say before he looked at me.

“ why does  Katlyn look like that? Why is she hurt? Why does she have bruises on her face and neck?  Dad, what's going on? Kev fired questions looking from me to  

Dad.

Dad sighed and looked at me.without  looking at Kevin he stated, “ your sister here claimed that Nicolas tried to r**e her… what’s even worst we lost the biggest contract of the year because of her dramatics!” 

“Are you serious dramatics … con..tract.. you are joking right dad look at her she can barely stand she is traumatized” Kevin yelled at the room.

“Please she is fine.” My mom finally let her voice be heard.

My sister looked at me and stood walking towards the door “ look I think I can smooth things over with Nicolas.. promise we won’t bring this to the cops… a little smooches… and I think I can get you that deal dad…. she just has to shut her trap about this…. I don't know why  Nicolas even asked to meet her in the first place.. probably because I told him I was busy today.. “ my sister finished rolling her eyes at me.

“You know what I  am done!!!” Kev yelled walking towards me he took his jacket off and rap it around my shoulder. He continued, “ I have stayed quiet about how you treat Katlyn for too long… am just done” he rapped his hands around my shoulder guiding me towards the door. I fell into his embrace thankful for the comfort and protection he is offering.

“ if you leave with her you leave with her. That means you are no longer welcome here or at the company!!” My dad shouted.

“Am fine with that,” Kev said, opening the door. 

I stopped and turned to face him and said, “I can’t let you do that.”

He looked at me and smiled and said “ it’s ok K enough. You deserve better and I can get another job.” He motioned towards the door.

“ I will black list everywhere… I will make sure you are never able to work in this industry or any other… not even at a fast food restaurant..” my dad said threateningly. 

I stopped and pulled from Kev embrace he looked at me and I could see the love for me in his eyes but I can also see the hesitation. I smiled at him showing him that I am ok and I understand. I turned to my father and with more confidence than I actually have I said, “ I will go….. I will ensure you don’t have to deal with me and my dramatics anymore…”

“Who's gonna cook and clean?” My mom said looking at me.

AI laughed and they all looked at me as if I was crazy. I looked dad in the eyes and said, “ sometimes when we are in a circle we can’t see the surface..” he looked at me with understanding. 

“Understand if you leave you are not welcome back… I will have nothing to do with you and I will forbid each member of this family to make no con with you.” He said the last part looking at Kevin. 

Kevin opened his mouth to speak but I reached out and touch his shoulder stopping him.  “I understand….. give me until tomorrow to leave…” I said and walked out my father’s office.

“Say something stop her… Dad don’t do this… she is her daughter” I heard Kev yelling.

“I only have one daughter” my dad replied with finality. 

“I agree.” My mom echoed.

I walked to my room with trembling feet. I entered my room and looked around. “ I have 24hrs to pack all of this” I mumbled to myself. I looked up at my wall and saw our family portrait; I realized I am the only one smiling. I walked over to it and really looked at it. What I finally saw brought me to my knees in tears am the only with no one embracing me.

After about a half hour there was a knock on my door, I didn't acknowledge it but Kevin entered.

“K..” he started. I shook my head, stopping him.

“It’s ok… I guess i'm going to med school after all.” 

He sighed and sat beside me on the floor “ I got an apartment and a job lined up for you. I will put some money in your account…. I will be in touch with you. I don’t care what dad says… I will come visit you I promise… am so sorry K … of all the person who deserve love and protection from this family it’s who… who make us a family K… and if they are too blind to see that and too stubborn to acknowledge it that’s their problem.”

I looked up at him and smile “ please don’t be hard on yourself Kev this is my decision to leave.”

“But I could have…”

“No I won’t let you give up your life for me...regardless… you worked hard for what you have obtained in the company so far…I won’t ask you to suffer for me… and it’s not like I don’t have a plan or a place to go… maybe this is the universe eliminating all my other options so that I can walk the path that I was meant to walk?”

He reached out and gave me a hug kissing me on my forehead he said, “ don’t ever change for anyone.. you will find someone who loves you the way you deserve to be loved.” He released me and stood up. Reaching to drag everything up he said,” now let start packing.. you can stay with me until your flight next week…. and we also have to make plans to ship your stuff to you.”

I walked towards him and hugged him at the waist and whispered, “ thank you Kev..”

“Am not doing anything out of the ordinary K… apart me is happy you are leaving the circumstances could have been better, but I want you to find yourself… realize that you deserve better… I want you to find someone that shows you that you are worth loving.” 

I look at him and smile thinking of how impossible that was..
