1. Grand Entrance

Sanaah entered the office in her expensive pink Veronica Beard suit which made it to Forbes 2020 best formal fashion. Her pointed black Louboutin pumps clicked against the floor as she walked through the corridors. She was aware of the mocha venti cup burning her palm, but she would instead savour it in her office than drink it in hallways like some kind of a hippie. Her Louis Vuitton bag was hanging off her arm, and as always the receptionist gave her a nasty look. It was nothing new—just another Monday in the crazy New York law firm. "f*****g great!" Her ears rang at the sound of her boss. That was new. Christian Lenin was by far the calmest person she had ever met. At the age of forty, he was married with a kid on its way and divorced twice, but that's the story for another day. Not only was he regular in the gym, but he also did weird stuff. By weird thing, she meant yoga. He practised yoga and drank kale smoothies for god's sake. What made him that angry? She thought, walking towards his glass cabin. "As if I can spare a paralegal," Christian muttered as he angrily hung up the phone. She hesitated before finally gaining the courage to knock on his door. With his most elegant Italian tailored suit, Christian pulled at his chair harshly and slumped down. He had his hair slicked back, and she wasn't ashamed to admit that even for being almost twice her age, he was attractive. Dilf. Even though he was still not a daddy yet. He was going to be. Semantics.  "Hey boss" She cheerfully entered the room. It had been two years that she started working for Christian. Not her best decision to be honest but she was happy now. After her postgraduation, she had every intention of writing the law exam, but it had become too much back then. Sometimes Christian thanks her for that because he is also dependent on her assistance. Christian raised his head, his lips quirked in a smile, "My saviour." She blushed, waving her arm, "I try." "Good morning. Had a nice drive?" Her eyebrows raised at that. It was new. Him greeting her. But then again the entire morning started like that so she couldn't complain. Pulling the chair in front of him, she looked at him. Christian looked stressed, dark circles under his eyes. Her eyes fell on the ashtray on the edge of his table. Was he smoking again? "Good morning. Why do you look like you've been smoking?" "Because I have. Half a pack." "Christian! You promised you would quit." He slumped forward, his shoulders slacked in defeat as he stared at his fingers, "I thought too" "What's going on?" Apparently, there was a granite bed under the orchard in Minnesota. Not a miracle exactly but Minnesota is the place where the granite formation ends. It was sporadic to find an entire bed, that huge at one in there so kind of a miracle. The CEO of Nathan Corps wanted that land, but the deal went sour because of the owner. It was decided beforehand, and everyone had shaken hands on it, but the owner was resisting to sell. Maybe the owner found out about the actual value or the secret about granite or whatever. Nathan Corps was demanding that it should be sold as soon as possible so that they can get the granite and sell it. Christian licked his lips, "It's thrice as huge as the nearby lands hun. Almost five billion dollars worth." A small whistle slipped out of her mouth. That was a massive amount for the land, but then again it was a granite bed. It was nothing new for their law firm as they usually deal with a large number of dollars, but five billion had to be their new high. "That's a lot of money. Who's the seller?" She asked, oddly crossing her legs. "Zander Rizzo. The Apple Mogul" She stared blankly at the mention of the name. Before she could say something, footsteps echoed from the hallways nearing the cabin. It must be Josh, another paralegal in their firm. Always making a grand entrance. That one. "Hey, fellas! Good morning" She immediately stared at Josh, grinning like a cat, "Send him Christian." Josh wrinkled his nose, "Where?" Christian shook his head as he stared at Sanaah. She knew that he was aware of her rivalry with Josh. They correctly didn't see things eye to eye. Besides, Josh felt like he was some kind of superior leader just because he joined a month ago. Instead of shutting up, Sanaah continued, "A little trip in nature among the orchards will clear his brain." Josh snorted, "That's exactly what I said to Christian yesterday. Sanaah need a vacation in that orchard." "Quit it! Both of you" Christian yelled, rubbing at his forehead. She offered her mocha because he looked like he needed one. Her stomach twisted at sight in front of her. She had never seen Christian so defenceless and torn. Josh seemed to take sympathy on him and stayed quiet. "Sanaah you need to go." She made a noise at that. No no. It was not happening. If there was one thing she prided herself in was the fact that she was born in New York. She was a through and through city girl and the thought of mud and dirt irked her. God knows how many field visits she skipped because of that. Nature and Sanaah did not share any relationship. "Christian, you can't do that to me. I'm a girl. How am I going to survive in some random village?" She quivered her lips and gave him puppy eyes for effect. Maybe that will make him rethink his decision. Josh interrupted with a sad sigh, "That's why I can't go Sanaah. It's a village and people are homophobic there. I don't want to be burned." She gave him a look, "Are you seriously playing the gay card here?" "Yaas biatch." "Jerk" She rolled her eyes. "Troll" "Cunt" "Hey hey stop it now" Christian cleared his throat. He gave a look to Josh, which made him exit the office, and she was thankful for that. "Sanaah" He turned to her, his lips curled down. "Nathan wants me to send someone attractive to pursue him-" She huffed, "That's unprofessional."  "I know. We need this for our firm, alright. Think about the bonuses this year. Yeah?" "Do I have an option?" "No" He grinned *** Seven hours, a flight delay and a bus later she was sitting in the company car. Her entire mood was ruined because of that p*****t sitting beside her and sipping margaritas loudly while eyeing her thighs. Of course, that wasn't enough. A giant truck full of mud or whatever that gross stuff was blocking the road. The entire f*****g highway. She was supposed to be in the cottage by now and eat her dinner, but she was stuck in the middle of the road because of some asshole who stopped the truck in the middle. "Can you go and talk to the man?" She asked, turning towards the drive. He shrugged and got out of the car.   Why me? Sanaah thought as she rolled down the window of the car. She was met with the sight of long green grass. That's the thing she noticed when she first sat in the cab. The entire village was green, and there were farmers everywhere. Atleast that's what she thought from their suspenders and dirty shirt. The idea of walking into those fields with her stilettos just made her shiver. She did hope that Apple Mogul had a decent place to talk. Sanaah was a straight-A student, so she did her research before sitting in the flight. Zander Rizzo at the age of twenty-seven had the net-worth of seventy million. He did not have photos online for some reason, but whichever did were always covered or blurred. After he turned eighteen, he inherited a small patch of land from his grandfather. His dad was not in the picture, but his mom was papped in New York a few times. From that patch of land, he was able to start the orchard using advanced techniques. He tripled the profit of what he invested, which made him buy a few more acres of land.  A sudden knock startled her. It was the driver. "What happened?"  "Madam the guy is oiling his wheel. It will take a few minutes." Her nose flared and she narrowed her eyes at the truck in front of her, "Few minutes? Is he f*****g kidding right now? It looks like I'll have to give him a piece of mind." With that, she angrily pushed the door of the car and immediately winced when her heels sank in the mud. She made a face at that and tried to stagger towards the truck. "Excuse me?" She yelled, slapping the door of the truck. The man inside jumped at the sudden voice and pulled the window down. "Hello?" The man gruffed, his stone-grey eyes staring back at her. Her breath caught in her throat at the sound of the man, and she stared at him, open-mouthed. ***
