3 Everything for my sister

1883 Words
Kayden I’m excited to see Walten City. I have never seen it before, but Nahla and Lori both told me about it. Lori is my sister and lives in Walten City. I never told Nahla about her. She is my little secret.    Our father was very abusive and always got angry at the littlest of things. When he was angry he went on beating things. The wall, mother, me, or Tori. We all hated it but could do nothing about it. Tori decided to run when she was 18 and never went back. She ended up in Walten City and end started writing to me. I know where she lives and write her back. I also sent as much money as possible to her. I went into illegal fighting to get more money for her. When I get in Walten City I plan to pay her a surprise visit.   Nahla and I are almost three hours on our way and we’re at the outside of the city.   “It’s not very pretty yet,” I say a little bit disappointed.    “Well this is the outside of the city, here live the poor people. But it’s much prettier in the center and the beachside.”   “Ohh.” I really hope Tori doesn’t live here. But I think she can’t afford to live in the center or the beach so she probably does live here.    We leave the poor part of the City and wow, that must be what everyone was talking about. this looks like nothing I’ve seen before. everywhere you look are stores and people and tall buildings. We come at our hotel and check-in. We set our belongings in our room.   “ I want to explore the City, will you be my expert to tell me all about the Great Walten City, please all-knowing Nahla?” I give her my best puppy eyes to convince her. She laughs her beautiful laugh, shakes her head. She ties her long wavy blond hair in a ponytail.   “Come on, I’ll show you around in this maze of a town.”  I quickly grab one of my knives to keep us safe and then we leave the hotel.   “First of all, you should know that it’s much prettier at dark, especially at the festivals. Lots of lights in different colors. All stores are open till midnight, cafes, and restaurants are always open. People are dressed up and having fun, at the moon festival there are lots of fires and market stalls with delicious food, beautiful jewelry, paintings, psychics and lots of other things. Now everyone is just preparing for tonight.”   Nahla shows a little of the center but also doesn’t know the way so we stay close to the hotel. We grab something to eat and then continue my tour. After our little walk, we go back to the hotel and take a nab.   After my nab, I go see Tori. I saw her street on my tour and thank god it’s not at that horrible place but in the center.   I knock on the front door and almost get a heart attack when she opens the door.   “You're pregnant?! How the hell did that happen? Who is the father?”   “Kayden, I didn’t expect you. Come in.” I walk in and wait for some sort of answer.   “Yeah, I’m pregnant and the father doesn’t matter, he isn’t around. Kayden I need more money but was afraid to ask, I didn’t want you to know it until the baby was born. I know you already give everything you can but can’t you figure something out? I can’t survive with a baby here and I refuse to go back. I just can’t. Please, Kayden you have to help me. You promised to always help me no matter what.” She is crying by the end. I take her in a hug until she calms down.    “There is only one way I can help you. I got a letter with the opportunity to fight in the war oversea, it pays good and I can send that to you. But It comes with risks. I could die.”   “You have to take it, Kayden. For me.” I can’t say no to my little sister, not even now. I agree and go back to the hotel. I can go to the command tomorrow to say I’m going. Then I also have to break up with Nahla. Everything for my little sister, even breaking up with the woman I love and fighting in a war. Nahla When I wake up Kayden is waiting for me. It’s already dark outside and I get ready to leave. I change in a bright blue dress. I got it from mom last Sunday on our weekly catch up. It’s one of my old dresses from when I still lived with my family. It fits my short but curvy body perfectly. The blue is the same color as my eyes and is made from a piece of expensive fabric. Normally I wear more rough on the skin clothes and I forgot how nice this type of clothing is. Kayden is wearing black as usual. It fits his rough appearance. He had to shave his head because he is a guard, and his black eyes always look alert and ready for whatever danger might be coming his way. He always has a knife with him. It always makes me feel safe when we’re outside.   When we get to the beach it’s already crowded. The fires are already lit and you can smell all kinds of different food. I’m hungry and look around for something good to eat.   “I’m quite hungry, shall we grab some food over there with the apples.” I gesture to a stall with delicious looking apple dishes.   “Sure, looks good.”   We go to the stall and we order two warm apples with freshly baked bread. The bread is still a little warm and it stills my hunger. We go dancing next to the fires next. I twirl around and Kayden helps to spin me around. we laugh and have so much fun.    Our night consists of dancing, eating, drinking alcohol, and having fun. We talk to strangers about how good the food is. We compliment people for there dance skills. We look at people who create color mist to give everything a fairytale vibe. Everywhere I look are people showing off their powers. It’s all so cool, I wish I knew what I could do. One day it will reveal itself to me and it will probably all make sense then.   We go home in the early hours of the morning, the sun is just up. I’m so tired of the night. But it was so much fun, I’m already looking forward to tomorrow. Or tonight actually.  I dream about my conversation from Sunday with my mother.   “How are things going here, mom. No drama I hope. I heard there is some chaos in the higher rang?”   “Yeah, it has to do with the Courtesy family. It affects all off us. You know we, the Mooren family, are close friends with the Courtesies and so it makes us all a little tense, especially your father.” There are six big families. They are the founding families of our land. They are all rich and powerful. You have my family the Moorens, the others are: Courtesy, Raven, Willard, Uriel, and Lacey. Most of all live a very long life, and can only be killed by major injuries. My mother came from the Uriel family and still looks in her twenties. She has just like me golden blond wavy hair and light skin color. My mother has light green hair, whereas I inherited my father's bright blue eyes.   “Oww, what happened then. I hope nothing too big?”    “Well one of the older Courtesies, Cathan, you haven’t met him yet, he got himself in trouble and is in prison for a year. I don’t exactly know what happened but it got everybody tense. I think your father would want us to don’t speak to each other for a while, I’m sorry.” I didn’t see that coming. It makes me a little sad.   “Well, Kayden and I have some problems. I want him to spend more time with me but he works all the time. I hope we can work it out in Walten City for the moon festival. But I don’t think we will stay together for much longer.”   “I’m sorry to hear that, baby. But father is to stressed to have you move in right now. You know how the other families looked down on us for letting you be with him. He is not your mate, so it was a big scandal. Taking you back now would just make things worse. Oh, I almost forgot I got you one of your old dresses for the festival. It’s your blue dress, you always look beautiful in it.”   “thank you, mom. I just hope Kayden and I can work things out for now. And hopefully, the problem here gets fixed soon too.” After my conversation, I stand to leave.    “bye, mama.” I kiss her goodbye.   “bye, baby” When I leave I grab the dress mom picked out but accidentally I hear my father talking to my mother.   “Eona, I know you love your weekly talk to Nahla but can you please stop that for a while and go to the Sunday brunch with me next week. They are asking for you.”   “Fine Grey, but only because of this stressful time.”    When I wake up Kayden is gone. I wonder where he went. It’s already late in the evening. I just go preparing for tonight. Hopefully, he comes back soon so we can go to the beach together. I hope it is just as much fun as yesterday.    I have a little headache from the alcohol but luckily I brought some headache powder. I do it in some water and quickly drink the thing. It tastes awful but it’s worth it, as long as it heals the headache. I wear a simple black dress. Kayden and I will fit together perfectly. I braid my hair and then just wait for Kayden to come back.    Half an hour later he finally comes back and we go to the beach. Kayden is tense and I wonder what is wrong. I know better than to ask though. when he is tense he gets angry easily. He will probably just forget it when we are at the beach and are having fun dancing and eating.
