5 What now

1959 Words
Nahla He broke up with me. Did that really just happen? It probably did. It was coming, I just didn’t expect it to be this way. Here in Walten City. I walk to where I know my family is. Hopefully, mom was wrong. But I doubt it, mom barely is wrong about dad. Maybe I’ll see my siblings. Samantha and Alexander. They live with aunt Mel here in the city. There probably partying with Tresh. Aunt Mel's only son. The only thing she has left from her mate. He is the biggest playboy ever. Poor thing whoever his mate is.    Sam and Alex are no different. That is why they live in the City. To party. I never liked that though. I am saving myself for my mate. Kayden and I never had s*x. He respected that. Since he was always so late he never felt the urge either.    I am at the house now. I knock and then wait. My father opens. Not good.   “Nahla. We have enough problems without yours. In a month or so I can help, not now. Come back then.” He slams the door closed and leaves me in shock. What now? I’ll sleep about it maybe I know a solution tomorrow. Two months… That's a long time. It will be better tomorrow. Hopefully.   I wake up not feeling any better. What do I do? Today is the last day here. We would have gone back home directly after the festivities were over. But I can’t exactly ride home with two horses. And they need to get both back. And when I do get back with both, what then. I can’t get back into the house. I can’t pay for it. I would be homeless. But staying here means the same thing. I’ll probably die within a week. And there is no solution for this situation. I have nowhere to go and there is no hope. But tonight I can forget that in the excitement of the festival.    Today I wear my last dress. It’s a dark green dress with silver flowers over all of the dresses. It’s my favorite dress. I decide to pack already so I can figure out what to do when I have to leave the hotel in the morning. I only have to pack my clothes. Kayden packed all of his clothes for his trip to the war. After I’m packed I go out but not without one of Kaydens knifes. The third day is always the most spectacular. So when I arrive at the beach I’m not surprised to see that the fires have all kinds of different colors. The third day is when the high families join to show off their powers. To show everyone who is the strongest. I have always loved the third day of the moon festivals. With the full moon shining bright above us. Watching and appreciating.   Strong arms wrap around me and startle me. I quickly turn around and reach for the knife but relax when I realize who it is. Or actually are.   “Sam, Alex, you startled me.” I am happy to see my siblings. I missed them, it’s been far too long since I last saw them. 3 years to be exact since I left. I was 20 but they were only 16 years old. Sam and Alex are twins. They grew up. They look far more mature now. Sam let her already long hair grew and it reaches her butt in loose waves now. blond and shining in the light of the moon. Her body grew as curvy as moms and mine. She was taller though. Around four inches. But that was already the case when I left.   Alex was a head bigger than Sam. And he got muscular. He looked like a man now instead of the boy he was last time I saw him. Sam and Alex both got mom's light green eyes. And we all got the full lips in common.   “It is good to see you, sis. Where is Kayden?” So father didn’t tell them yet.   “Kayden broke up with me yesterday. He wanted to fight in the war. Left with the boat this morning.” I say with tears in my eyes. I already miss him. I feel alone in this big city. At least I could talk to someone who actually cared about me now.    “Ahh sorry to hear that. But does that mean you're coming back to live with us?” Sam asks with a hopeful glint in her eyes. I knew they missed me. Mom reminded me a thousand times on our weekly talk.   “Well, I wanted to. I went to ask last night but father said that there were too many problems for that and that I could come back in around two months to ask again.”   “Oh. But if you don’t have Kayden, you don’t have an income. Or a house. Where are you going to live then.” Sam says with a confused look.    “Well, I have no idea. That is something I try to figure out myself.” I can’t look them in the eyes. talking about this is way too embarrassing. I am their big sister. I should be their example. Instead, I am heartbroken and homeless.    “We can’t help if father doesn’t want it, I’m sorry Nahla,” Alex says with sadness. They are such sweethearts. But I get why they can’t help. Father would be so mad at them if he found out They’re helping me.    “I get that. I don’t want father getting mad when he finds out. I’ll find a way on my own. And then I will see you in two months. I see Tresh coming this way. I heard you three are quite the party lovers. Don’t get into much trouble.”   “We won’t. We have done this a thousand times Nahla. We’ll see you in two months. Love you.”   “I love you two to.” They give me a warm comforting hug and then they’re gone. I wave to Tresh and he waves back. The darkness consumes them. They’re probably going to some party. I hope they will have a good time. Hopefully, I really see them in two months. And that I’m not dead by then.    I go to a market stall and get myself some fresh bread and apples. As usual, it is delish. I go dancing to distract myself. It is a cold night but dancing around the fire gets me warm again. All I wanted tonight was to forget the situation I was in right now. So I needed alcohol. I chose some strong whiskey for that. I bought a bottle and after some sips, I found the fires to bright for the dark situation I was in. I walked to a more quiet space on the beach and looked at the people while they made fun.    One person was busy making animals out of glass balls for his stall. It was fascinating to see him use his power to shape the ball into something else. After watching him for a while I saw he was making a lion. When he was done and started something new I got bored. I looked around again something else to look at. I took a sip from my whiskey and then I decided I wanted to see a seer. I go to some old looking lady and go sit in front of her.   “I want to know if I’ll survive the following two months,” I say while giving her some money and setting my bottle next to me.   “Well, you will, young lady. But your future is a little fuzzy to see. Did you meet your mate yet?” What kind of question is that? It would likely make more sense when I wasn’t drunk but now I just think is rude. I suppress my frustration and just answer.    “No, I haven’t yet, why?”   “Well, then you’ll most likely meet him very soon. And he might be some sort of seer, like me. Far stronger, that is why I can’t see your future clearly. But I think the upcoming months will be a struggle for you good luck.” She grabs the money and waves her hand to me to dismiss me. I stand up and grab my whiskey again. At Least now I know that I will still be alive in two months. And my mate. I never really thought about him. I had Kayden. But now I don’t anymore. I should probably search for him. Not now though, I am far too drunk for that. After my visit to the old lady, I want to wander around in the city.    The streets are very dark at this hour. I drink my whiskey while walking around and think of nothing. I’m just drinking away my sorrows. I’ll probably regret this tomorrow but today I need this. I just need to forget everything for a little while.    I see a group of men on my way. I try to step around them but they block my way.    “Hello, pretty. What are you doing here all alone?” One asks. another grabs my whiskey and takes a sip from it. I feel anger rising.   “Well apparently someone likes whiskey.” He states. And a smirk appears on his face. He looks far from handsome. His eyes are too far from each other and he has a scar on the left side of his face. He has red hair with a slender built. No big muscles and hard body. That is what attracts me in a man. These boys, you can impossibly call them men, have none of that. They just irritate me.    They would overpower me though. I am a small lady and they are with six. So I grab my knife just in case they cause me trouble. Luckily Kayden taught me how to use it. I never had to use it before. I always had Kayden, and before that, I had guards who protected me. I was never in my life so close to danger before.   The boys encircle me and there is no way to escape anymore. Hands grab my hips and pull me to its body.   “We’ll be having fun, girl.” He whispers in my ear. I feel disgusted by him. I turn around in his arm and stab him in his belly with my knife. I quickly turn around and lash out with my knife. I hit his arm but one of the other boys has its arms around me now. My knife is pushed out of my hands and I can’t escape anymore.    “Nahla!” I hear Alex’s voice all of a sudden. I am being pulled out of the boy's arms and when I turn around I see Tresh beating the boy knock out Alex is busy with the other three. He pushes me out of his way and I fall. The last thing I hear is Alex’s voice.   “Shit.” He says. And then everything is consumed with darkness.
