Chapter-13 First Date “You seem on the edge lesbo,” Rose commented, taking her usual seat at the dining table, “Why so?” I wanted to scream at her that I was not lesbian but then decided against it, I wasn’t in the mood, “Got to submit an assignment.” “So?” she asked, it was clear she wasn’t very interested in my life but at least she was making a conversation which apparently my ‘friend’ Lita refused to. “Not sure if it’s good enough,” which was the reason I was grumpy this morning, apart from other things, “I want to make a good first impression.” “If you wrote it, then it must be good,” she said nonchalantly, “I’ve heard Indians are intelligent people.” Well someone was being nice to me which did make me wonder why? The next thing I knew a halo would appear on her head! “I wish I could say that about myself.” “Hey sugar,” someone pecked my cheek from behind, “Morning.” “Good morning,” I wished Keith as he went into the kitchen. Lita choked on her coffee ad Rose raised a finely arched brow. Blushing heavily I ducked my head. “Okay, that’s unusual,” that would be Rose. To be honest I was expecting something worse. “Huh? Was it?” coming back Keith sat down beside me, sounding all cool, “well then morning to you as well Rose, Lita. You guys want a kiss?” “No way!” Rose sounded disgusted, Lita remained silent. “Okay then back to breakfast,” he announced. “Umm…I should be going,” this was getting awkward and I needed to get out of there, “wouldn’t want to be late for my assignment.” Grabbing my things I made a run for the door but Keith trailed behind me and before I could walk out, grabbing my arm, he turned me around. “I could’ve kissed you on the lips but I knew that be too much for you to handle. But you are mine and I like to show my affection openly. So better start getting used to it love,” he whispered in my ear. God this man was sexy. I merely nodded, he pulled back and gave me a smile, “All the best.” “Thank you,” muttering, I walked out. “Oh and India,” he called. “Yes?” “Just because you’re not the girl I could show off to my friends doesn’t mean I won’t,” stuffing his hands in his jeans pocket, he walked away. And I fell for him even more. Thanks to Keith, because of a superb morning, the entire day was awesome. The Professor really liked my assignment and even praised me, I was paying attention to all the lectures. After three weeks of just sitting on the benches and sulking, it was a nice change. Although because of my lack of attention those past weeks I missed on a lot of work but thankfully I was back on track and ready to roll, better late than never. Which meant staying back a few hours after class, it was a lot of work but I was able to finally complete it. “Thanks Jules, had it not been for you, I could have never finished this,” Jules was a batch mate of mine, she was a little on the shy side and because of it didn’t have many friends. We sat next to each other in most of the lectures which was why I was able to befriend her. The girl was really sweet and ever ready to help. “It’s alright Haa…ya,” she smiled. “I should be going, thanks again.” “Not a problem,” she came to the door to see me off. “You have a lovely house Jules,” I waved her goodbye. By the time I got home it was almost dinner time, everybody was in the living area when I walked in. “Whoa you’re super late India,’ Bran was on the floor, enjoying a pizza. “Had to finish some notes Bran,” giving him a smile I continued on my way. I hadn’t even properly shut the door to my room when someone knocked. On opening it I found Keith standing there in a navy blue jeans and grey T. He looked good. “Get ready,” he told me. “Huh?” what was happening? I was to be ready for what? “Why?” “We’re going out,” with that he turned around, “I’ll be waiting in the car.” “Wait,” I called, “how much time do I have?” “Twenty minutes at max,” but he smiled as if I’ve just cracked a joke. Before I could ask anything else, he was gone. “Twenty minutes!” okay we were going out, out1 Oh my God we were going out! But twenty minutes wasn’t enough time. I’ve to get ready, Yeah move your ass Haya. But wait! What do people wear on dates? This was a date right? Oh God I’ve never been on a date, what was I supposed to do? I needed help. Expert advice! But Lita wasn’t talking to me and that left me with no one, I couldn’t exactly march up to Brandon and demand that he help me get ready. Rose! What about Rose? Surely she’d been on thousands of dates, she could help me but will she? Should I ask her? Ooh I was hyperventilating! First I needed to calm down, take a deep breath and calm down, “Fine I’ll ask Rose,” walking out the door I made my way to the living area but then decided against it. Maybe it wasn’t a good idea. Okay fifteen minutes left and I had done nothing, I was falling behind schedule! Okay first things first, there was no time for waxing so grabbing my Venus I ran to the bathroom. Ten minutes remaining I needed to dress, the only problem I didn’t have a dress. God why didn’t I listen to Lita when she told me to buy a few dresses? Fine, no dress then. What’s the next best thing I have? Rummaging through the closet, I found the cute little chiffon skirt she made me buy, “Well aren’t you coming in handy?” Pairing it with a simple quarter sleeved blouse, I pinned my hair up and applying a rose pink lip balm, I was ready with cute little flip flops. Three minutes remaining. The sprawled up people in the living area threw me weird looks but I just rushed outside before a question could come my way. Keith was leaning on the hood of his car, looking up, the moon giving him an unearthly look, “Umm…Keith?” I reluctantly called out. “You ready?” he seem surprised to find me there. “Well you said twenty minutes,” mumbling I thought back, he said twenty minutes right? Or did I hear it wrong? “Yeah but….,” scratching the back of his head, he smirked, “can girls get ready that fast?” “I don’t know about others,” fiddling with the hem of my skirt, which barely reached my thighs, I replied, “but I can.” “You look beautiful,” his eyes roamed over me and I felt the familiar blush come back, “Come on,” opening the door to passenger seat, he urged. I got in, butterflies going wild in my stomach. Getting in after me, he started the engine. “Where’re we going?’ looking out the window, I barely saw anything but lights. “You’ll find out,” now that didn’t sound good. Whenever someone said ‘You’ll see’ or something along those lines, it always turned out bad for mw. “Okay,” I gulped. “You sound very excited,” he taunted. “I am…umm,” words, oh words please don’t fail me just yet, “a little nervous.” “Never been on a date before?” “No.” The smile he gave me was so genuine I couldn’t help but stare, “Jesus India, am I your first in every respect?” “I guess,” I looked down. This was embarrassing. He’ll think am a kid! God why do I have to be so stupid! “I like that,” he whispered suggestively. Fifty freaking shades of grey on its way! When we finally stopped it was dark all around, not even a single light in sight. “Are we out of town?” I asked. “Yes.” “And where are we exactly?” “Forest,” he left the headlights on and sure enough I could see tree trunks. “Forest?” Why would he bring me to a forest? Nobody went to a forest on their first date or any other date! Is this even a date? Did I get it all wrong? “I haven’t brought you here coz it will be easy to get rid of your body after I kill you,” he seem kind of scary in the light of the car, his face half hidden in the shadows. “Huh?” my body went cold, still. I knew something was wrong about this guy, there was something twisted, dangerous about him. “Joking India,” opening the door, he stepped out, “Come on.” “Okay,” I didn’t like that kind of jokes but reluctantly got out. “Come,” he offered his hand which I took without a second thought, if he did decide to kill me, well it would be worth it. “Be careful,” he just warned me when I nearly tripped over a stone. “I’ll try,” really I liked forests, the quiet, the beauty, the fresh air, everything but in the middle of the night? “Wait a minute,” going back to the car he turned the headlights off and brought a flashlight. “Where’s mine?” “Would it do any good?” he was making fun of me, i***t! But he had a point, ‘I hate you.” “Umm…you wish India,” gosh the butterflies! They were flapping their wings and flapping hard. My stomach felt funny. “I’ll be you flashlight, come on,” slipping his hand in mine, he led the way. It felt good, I felt safe with him, funny but I did feel safe with him, for once. Together we made our way through the night forest, it wasn’t easy but somehow I managed not to fall flat on my face, even more interesting was the fact that I wasn’t even paying attention to where we were going. Being this close to him, holding his hand, feeling his warmth. It did things to me, he had all my attention without even trying. It was only when he stopped and I looked around that took my breath away. We were standing in a small clearing which was lit up with candles, there was a small blanket on the grass with plates , glasses and a basket. It was beautiful, literally beautiful. “How….?” Was all I could mutter. “It doesn’t matter,” sneezing my hand he continued, ‘what matters is , do you like it?” “Do you even need to ask?” “Nah,” he tugged me forward, “Sit,” he commanded and I followed. “There was no need for all this,” why did he go to such extent for a date? He could’ve taken me to a children’s park and bought me ice-cream, I would’ve been the happiest person on earth. “There was. Because,” sitting down, he opened the basket, there were three boxes inside. He took out all of them, one by one and then opening the first, he served me fried rice, “this is your first date and I wanted you to remember it, cherish it.” “I cherish every single moment I spent with you,” maybe it was the setting, the dark of the night or the light of the candles but I just said the words I would’ve never accepted had I been in my right mind. He smiled cheekily, “well that needed no persuasion ,” opening the second box, he served Manchurian. “Chinese?” “I ordered Indian,” he clarified, “but they said I’ll need an oven to keep it warm or it’ll get spoiled. So Chinese it is.” Well I would’ve loved to finally get on hands on some Indian food but hey Chinese will do for now. “Maybe next time,” he offered. “Yup.” We finished our meal in silence and he was finally opening the third box when my phone rang, “There’s reception up here?” “We’re in U.S. love,” he mocked. “Whatever,” getting up I moved a little away from him, “Hello?” “India?” and that would be Peter. “Peter?” “Yup where are you?” he sounded worried. “Hey don’t worry, am okay,” I should’ve told him about this date but being the i***t that I was, I got too embarrassed. Plus he was surrounded by people when I got out, “Peter umm.. am with Keith, so don’t worry. I’ll be fine.” “With Keith?” now he sounded skeptical. “Yup we’re……kinda…..on a date.” “You’re on a date with Keith?” his voice turned cold. “Yes.” “India the minute he finds out about your religion, he’ll snap. And you go out alone with him in the middle of the night?” “But how’ll he know until I don’t tell him?” “Listen India just get back home okay? I know it sounds like am spoiling your date but don’t get too attached to him, until he knows the truth. Both of you will end up hurt.” He made sense, I just kept making mistakes, “Okay,” with that I disconnected.
