Darcy's POV. "You're joking, right?" I asked, seeking clarification, hoping I had misheard. But Iris burst into laughter, circling me with a triumphant smile. "Joking? Do I look like a joker?" she asked, her chuckles dripping with mockery. "Why did you think you were moved out of the city?" she asked, her eyes glinting with malice. "After being shunned by the college, of course." She leaned in closer, her voice taking on a conspiratorial tone. "Because they were disappointed and spiteful that they had to trash you away and abandon you." My eyes widened in horror, but I refused to believe her. "You're lying," I said, my voice firm. "I won't fall for this." But Iris just laughed again, her amusement fueling my anger. I knew she was trying to get under my skin, but I wouldn't let her.
