Chapter 3

1145 Words
It's a brand-new day, conveying new hopes and aspirations. The rays of the early sunlight shone around the neighborhood of the city, restoring a pearly glow to the sky. It's been 24 hours and Madeline still can't get over the shocking news of her son's kidnap. “Why would anyone wanna hurt my son? That kid is innocent.” She muttered in pain and wept uncontrollably. She tossed to both sides of the bed, wailing like a poor frustrated widow. Nothing ever mattered to her anymore, not even her job that pays the bills. She only wants her son alive and nothing more. Her boss wouldn’t stop calling, but she wasn't bothered. She's gradually losing her patience. Her entire savings couldn't even afford to pay the $500k ransom the abductors requested. “Whom do I run to for help? I don't even have anyone to bank on right now. Selene, the moon goddess, please send someone to rescue my son from the abductor's den and bring him home alive,” Looking up at the sky, Madeline shut her eyes to make a wish. Suddenly, her doorbell rang from the outside. “Please go away. What do you want? I don't wanna talk to anyone,” she screamed from her room, but the person wouldn't leave and kept knocking so hard. She finally conceded and went to see who that was. “Are you deaf or something? I thought I said…" She paused and was shocked to see Catherine standing in her way. She was the last person she expected to see. "Hi, are you busy? Mind if I come in?” "Sure,” Madeline welcomed her guest and shut the door. “I can discern your anxiety. Don't be too hard on yourself. Any update on your missing son? Have the cops called to give an update about his whereabouts?” Catherine gave a long, curious look as she popped the question. “The cops? Hahaha! Those fools. I stopped hoping for them. They haven't called yet to notify me of my son's whereabouts. Does that make any sense to you? Now the ransom is $500k. This is ridiculous! Can I be honest with you? I've lost all hope of ever seeing my son alive. I don't even know what to say anymore. I'm completely fed up.” Madeline broke down in tears. Catherine's brows pulled up together In a frown as she said to her, “You don't look healthy. I bet you haven't had breakfast. I hope you don't mind if I go get you something to eat,” “That won't be necessary. I lost my appetite. I don't need anything. I just want to see my son. Why is this happening to me? My son is innocent. Who knows if he's being starved right now? Perhaps, he might have fallen ill or something. Gosh!” Madeline fumed, slapping the wooden stool with the back of her palm in frustration. She was uncontrollable and going insane. "Now, you need to stay calm. You're losing it. Weeping won't bring back your son. We should be concerned about finding a solution!” Catherine moved closer to calm her nerves. "Honestly, I don't know what to say anymore. I'm equally confused as you are. I can't even afford $50k presently, let alone the $500k ransom. The cops aren't helping matters either. They keep feeding me with lies and fake promises. I knew they shouldn't be trusted. Bunch of f*****g retards!” "Poor Ivan.” Catherine sighed and pitied Madeline. She was once a victim of such circumstances, so she could imagine how hurt Madeline was at this point. Years ago, Catherine lost her husband and children in a ghastly car accident. The incident left her completely shattered. It's been 10 years but she still hasn't moved on from that unfortunate incident. The dreadful memory lives rent-free in her head. "Well, I might know someone who would help you find your son and bring him home alive without you paying a dime.” Catherine initiated. "You do? What are we waiting for? Let's go meet him immediately. We shouldn't waste much time.” Madeline said in excitement. Anxiety enveloped her as she couldn't wait to meet with this person. “Hey, take a chill pill. I can't recall his name, but some say he's a werewolf Alpha of some pack on Sinclair Avenue. I haven't met with him before, but trust me, some say he's the best in the game. He has rescued a total of 50 children from kidnap, child trafficking, and abuse. I will need to speak with a friend to book an appointment with him. I'll be back in less than an hour.” She explained and allayed Madeline's fear. "Should I come with you? I can go change to something better,” "That won't be necessary. Just stay right here. I'll be back,” Catherine replied, making an upraised hand to stop her from edging closer. ************ Sixty minutes gone and Catherine hasn't shown up yet. This worried Madeline a lot. She believed Catherine was taking forever to show up as promised. For every minute that passed, Madeline was scared her son was exposed to more danger. Just when she thought all hope was lost, Catherine came knocking at the door again, this time with positive news. “I just booked an appointment with him. We leave this minute,” Catherine happily disclosed. "Like seriously? The best news I've heard in a while. How do I repay this kindness? You're so exceptional! Please hold on a sec while I go change into something better,” For the first time in a while, Madeline felt hopeful. They stepped out and drove off to Sinclair Avenue which was a few miles away from her residence. At 10 minutes to past 12, they pulled up next to a five-story cream-colored building with gigantic doorways and windows. “Stay here while we go notify the Alpha of your presence,” One of the wolves disclosed, as he departed. Shortly after, the Alpha joined them and was accompanied by his BETA. “I welcome you both to my Pack. Be assured, your son will be found and brought home alive. You've got absolutely nothing to worry about.” With a jaw-dropping baritone voice, the Alpha approached Madeline and Catherine. To Madeline's greatest shock, she saw her horrible past staring at her in the face and opening the can of worms. Suddenly, she developed cold feet and felt an electric shock down her spine. The man who sanctioned the abortion of her pregnancy. No other person than Alpha Domenico of the New Age Pack. A lot had changed about him in just 4 years. Stunned by his presence, Madeline was left speechless and heartbroken. His presence restored her hurt and reminded her a lot about her cruel past.
