Confessions

I hear music playing somewhere outside my bedroom. I roll over and wipe the sleep from my eyes. I'm exhausted. I pick up my phone and squint at the screen. The clock reads 2pm. I'm taken aback as it didn't feel like I had slept for so long. I have a slight headache, presumably from all the drinks I had last night. Images of Eli flash into my mind and I instantly get wet. I remember the feel of his hands on my body and his lips. I shake my head to clear the thoughts. I lazily get out of bed and shuffle to the kitchen. My sister is making breakfast... lunch. "So you have risen?" my sister jokes. I notice she's stirring a pot. Whatever is in it, it smells good. "You seem quite cheery for someone who doesn't know how they got home this morning." I jump up on the counter and lay my head against the cupboard. I notice she's making pelau. Yes, I could use something filling. She laughs. "I know how I got home." I look at her sceptically. "My baby sis got me home." We laugh. "By the way, did you have someone over this morning?" She looks at me with a smirk and raised eyebrow. I gulp. "Ah...um. I-er." I look away. "Yes." "Who was it?" She goes back to stirring the pot. "The guy I was dancing with last night." I feel weird now telling her. I basically made myself cheap. I know my sister wouldn't judge me but I still feel stupid. "When did he leave?" She moves from the stove to get some ice from the freezer. "Not long after he came," She gives me a look. "Not like that." She laughs. "I meant he didn't stay long. I wanted him to but he said he had somewhere to be earlier today." I am fidgeting with my hair. "So he hit and ran?" Oh my gosh, my sister could be so direct. "No Shay, he actually didn't. I wanted him to but we just messed around for a bit before he left." I jump off the counter and grab some grapes from the fridge. "Don't eat too much of those, lunch is almost ready." She smacks my hand and I drop some of my grapes back into the container. "Ow." I rub my hand. "Get some plates." She turns off the stove. She already has two glasses with ice ready on the counter. I grab two plates and hand one to her. She points with the spoon to ask if that was enough and I nod my head. She takes the other plate and fill it with food. I look into the pot to see if any more food is remaining. I smile when I see I could have seconds. I was a slim girl but I could throw down. We go to the living room to eat while I explain what happen last night. "I know I heard someone. I got up last night to pee and I heard voices from your room." She says. "Do you even remember how he looks?" I ask. I plop down into the couch, careful not to spill my food. "All I remember is black." She admits. "I didn't think I would have normally gone for someone who looks like him but he's gorgeous. And he works out." I gush. I remember the feel of his muscles under his shirt. The flex in his biceps when he was over me. I shiver. "Cool yourself." Shay laughs. She's quite amuse with the whole situation. "Like I need to call Shen to tell her our baby sister is getting some." "Oh gosh," my face falls. "Please don't." I won't hear the end of it. My sister Shen will never let it go. I love my sisters but they could be too much sometimes, especially when it comes to me. Shay, Shayla, is the oldest. She's thirty. Shen, Shenice, is the middle child. She's twenty-eight. And there is me, Samantha, I'm twenty-five. My sisters are very overprotective of me but they trust my judgement. When I do something stupid, they are quick to let me know. This is the first I've ever done something like this. I thought my sister would have given me a lecture. I know I asked Eli to stay, I knew she wouldn't be upset. If she had any bad vibes, I would have gotten a earful after he left. She seemed to like him at the club, so I took a chance. To my absolute horror, she calls our sister. I sit, fuming, listening to her fill her in on the details. I would jump in on occasions I felt like they were being too critical. "How can she not have his number?" I hear Shen yell into the phone. I roll my eyes. Why is she still on this? They only just got off the fact that I didn't know his name. We spend the whole afternoon talking. Shen is updating us on things back home. I miss home but I didn't like the pace at which things went. We were very laid back and I wanted to explore the world.... I just needed money. And money was hard to come by back home. Even with a good job, the exchange rate was a killer. I needed income that could fund the things I needed, without having to work so hard. I was finally able to open a proper investment account and buy stocks when I came here. My portfolio looks promising now. I didn't need months of income saved up to afford a couple of my favorite stocks. A message came through to my phone. I look at the screen and see it's from Harvey: "Hey no show, you wanna go to the movies with us tonight?" No show? Oh my gosh. I totally forgot I had to call Harvey and Garth last night to tell them where I was going to be. "Sure." I type. I can see the dots appear to say he's typing something. "We'll pick you up at 7." Came his reply. I send a smiley face in response. I check the time. It's a little after six. I tell my sisters I'm going out tonight and I leave them chit-chatting. I find a jeans, knitted black top with a deep cleavage and a sneakers. I look at my hair and decide to put it in a bun. I rush to the bathroom and hop into the shower. I don't take long to do my business and hop back out. I lather my skin in lotion and quickly dress. I take my time detangling and brushing my hair. I do loose giant twists on the ends and brush my hair to the back. I create a big puffy bun at the back, pinning the twists down. I only apply mascara and a lip gloss to my face. I look over my outfit in the mirror. I nod my approval, switching off the light as I leave my room. "I should be back by midnight if anything" I call to my sister as I put on my coat. Just then I hear honking outside. "Can you tell your nitwit friend to stop doing that every time he comes here?" My sister says annoyed. "I will." I say opening the hallway door. "I'll also punch him for you" I add. "Thank you." She calls after me. I get outside. It's November and the temperature is ridiculous. They think it might snow this year. I get into the backseat of the pickup - surprise, surprise - and immediately punch Harvey in the shoulder. "What the hell, mate?" He turns and look at me. "You'll keep getting them if you don't stop annoying my sister. Stop honking when you get to my house." I instruct him again. "Bloody hell," he whispers under his breath. Garth laughs from his seat in front. "You all right, Sam? What happened last night?" I look apologetically at him. "I'm sorry Gar, I totally forgot. My sis and I were just having so much fun." "Did this fun have anything to do with a guy?" Harvey asks, pulling into traffic. "What's it to you Mr Nosey?" I smile and poke him the shoulder. He acts dramatic and grabs his shoulder, pouting his lips. "So dramatic," I laugh. "By the way, what movie were you planning to see?" "Not sure, was just gonna wing it." Garth says. He's playing with the station. A song I like comes on so I start singing. "I'll spend ten thousand hours and ten thousand more, if that's what it takes to win that sweet heart of yours. I might never..." I stop when the station changes abruptly. "What you do that for?!" "It's already gloomy as is tonight, don't add to it will ya." Harvey says changing the station. I give him a death stare and lean back in my seat glaring at him. I sit in silence taking in my surroundings while rap plays in the background. Harvey thinks he's so cool. With his stupid pickup and his white boy swag. We pull up to a street I don't recognise. Harvey shuts off the engine and he and Garth gets out. I sit up, looking around me. "Why are we here?" I ask. It almost looks similar to the street my sister and I went clubbing last night. "We gotta do something first." Harvey states walking away. I look to Garth, he just shrugs and follows after Harvey. "Argh, these idiots." I jump out. Confused whether to stay by the truck or not. The windows are down. I don't want anyone to steal anything. I look back to the building but the guys have disappeared. I follow after them, taking quick glances of the area to make sure no one is noticing. I get inside the building and it's a pub. There are pool tables, rounded tables in the middle for eating and a long bar. The guys are sitting at the bar talking to who I would assume is the bartender. They all look over at me when I enter. I stop in my tracks, feeling uncomfortable. Why are they staring at me? I give them a quizzical look and they go back to speaking. It is about 8pm now and the bar has a few patrons. The four pool tables in the back are occupied except one. I walk up to the boys and take the empty stool next Garth. "Can we go see the movie now?" "Soon," Garth says. He pats my leg. I let out an exaggerated sigh. "Wanna play some pool while Harvey does his business?" "Sure, I beam." I don't get to play often. I jump off my stool and bounce to the empty pool table. I can hear Garth laughing behind me. I take some quarters out of my purse and unlock the balls. I rack them up and turn to get a stick. I dust my hand with the powder and clean my cue. "Ladies first," I tell Garth. He shakes his head and gets in position. He breaks the balls and nothing goes in. I laugh and take up my position to hit a solid. I aim and hit. The white ball hits it head on and the solid ball goes into the left corner pocket. I do my little happy dance and Garth rolls his eyes. I take up my position again, eyeing a ball for the middle right pocket. Again, it's a direct hit and it sinks into the hole. I go to do my happy dance again and someone grabs on to my waist. I freeze and quickly turn around. This bloke is holding on to me and smiling from ear to ear. He's a muscular guy, maybe in his thirties. He remind me of those gym fanatics. He smells of strong, cheap cologne. It burns my nose. I turn up my face and push against him. "Get your hands off of me." Garth comes to my aid. "Hey mate, let her go." "Are you her boyfriend?" He asks, pointing his chin at Garth. His friends behind him laugh. "That doesn't matter." Garth says, stepping closer. "Just let her go." I'm still struggling to get myself free. This guy is annoying me. He's holding me from behind and I'm twisted just to see his face. "Let me go, you jerk." I shout. I'm pulling at his fingers to loosen his grin but he hugs me tighter. "Argh." He's squeezing my stomach now and I'm getting more pissed off. "Let me go!" He lifts me up and my legs are dangling above the ground. I want to smack him so badly. "Oye, mate, put her down and let her go." I hear Harvey's voice. I know Harvey has a temper on him. He doesn't look like much but he is strong. I know him and Garth sometimes wrestle. Garth grabs my hand and tries to wrestle me out of the guy's grip. I see someone push Garth away. Now all of the guy's buddies are standing and looking at my friends. I look to the bartender but he doesn't do anything. He's pretending like he's not noticing what's going on at the back of the bar. I look to the patrons eating and they're all looking on to see what's happening. I can feel my frustration growing. I push my elbow back and feel it connect with something. I instantly land back on my feet. "You b***h," I hear the guy curse. "You broke my nose." I ignore the throbbing feeling in my elbow and smile smugly. "That's what you get." He gears up to hit me and Garth grabs his hand. "You don't want to do that." Garth is at least two inches taller than him but the guy has more mass. "Just take your loss and go." Harvey says. "Better yet, we'll leave." Harvey ushers us towards the door. We get outside but the group is following us. "Come on guys, you don't have to start anything. It was a misunderstanding, let it go." Garth says. I can tell he's on high alert. I know he can fight but his first inclination is to defuse the situation. I don't think these guys are listening to reason. I don't think they like to be embarrassed like that. I walk backwards towards the truck. I don't think we can outrun them. We won't make it to the jeep and pull away in time. If they really want a fight, it might get ugly. "I don't think we wanna let it go." The gym freak says. He points at me. "I think your girl needs to be taught a lesson." "You wish asshole. You started it." I pipe up from the back. "And I'm going to end it." Harvey says. He pulls out a handgun from the back of his pants. Everybody looks at him in shock. "Walk away." He says to the group. "Harvey, what are you doing man?" Garth asks. I watch the scene play out in front of me. Where did Harvey get a gun from? "Go back inside." He repeats. The men in the group look at each other and laugh. I look at them like they're crazy. Someone is pointing a gun at them and they're laughing. It's not even pointed at me and I'm scared. Garth steps behind Harvey. He's just as confused as I am. No one is standing down. I wish I never left my house. My chest is rising and falling rapidly, my heart is hammering against my chest. I'm going to have a panic attack. I don't want anyone to get hurt. Just then we hear sirens. Oh gosh, it's the cops. I don't want Harvey to get into trouble. We all look back and a police car pulls up to the curb. Harvey is no longer holding his gun. I guess he hid it where he originally had it. "What seems to be the problem here tonight?" The first officer asks. "This i***t here refuses to listen to reason, Officer." Harvey says. "He grabs my friend and when she retaliated, he wants to start shit." "I understand sir, but can you not use that language." the officer states. "Yes, my bad, sorry." Harvey says. "She broke my nose." Gym freak shouts, pointing at me. "I said no and to let me go." I shout back at him. The emotions are raging again. "Officer, we just want to go home, if that's okay with you." Garth pulls Harvey to the truck. The officer nods and watch us leave. I can feel gym freak's stare burning into the back of my head. I don't pay him any mind. I enter the truck, strap in and stare dead ahead. When we've been driving for a while I feel the urge to break the silence. "Why do you have a gun, Harvey?" It is so unlike something I would expect from him. "I've been robbed before so I always take it with me whenever I go out. I just never had to show it before now." He stares straight ahead. I can see his face in the rear view mirror, he looks defeated. Harvey wants to still hangout but I was no longer in the mood. I ask them to drop me home instead. I don't think I can do with any more drama tonight.
