Date Night

2149 Words
Bertram has been texting nonstop to check in on me. I keep telling him I am fine but he's so distraught that he left me to find my way home with a sprained wrist. I keep telling him he's fine as I was the one who insisted on it. We talk for a bit about what happen after I left. He told me Lizzie was jealous and was throwing some pretty mean but obvious comments his way. I ask him whether they were an item or not and he tells me he has never really looked at her that way. I give him a piece of my mind and tell him to consider it as she seems to be really into him. A few hours later, he text back to say they were going out that night and he'll tell me how it goes tomorrow at work. My sister partied until 3 am this morning, so she was pretty out of it for the day. I made us a typical Caribbean Sunday lunch of macaroni pie, baked chicken, provision and salad. I didn't tell her that I got lost on my way back home from the skating rink but she knows that Eli helped me get supplies for my wrist. We talked about him for a bit and I confided that I wanted to try. She tells me she would allow it once I still get my check up in a couple weeks and I promise to use protection next time. I agree and I get her permission to bring him around. Except for my wrist, today was pretty uneventful. I didn't go to church this morning as I was too tired and too in pain to bother going. By the time the pain killers kicked in, it didn't make any sense to go. I am watching TV when my phone starts to ring. I smile as I recognise the personalise ring tone. "Hey you," I smile into the phone. "Hello beautiful, " came his reply. I blush and giggle. "How are you feeling today?" "I'm doing okay. My wrist doesn't hurt as much anymore. The pain killers really work wonders." I confess. I turn down the volume of the TV and focus on my conversation with him. "That's great. See what wonders can come from not being stubborn." I roll my eyes at his teasing. "I have a request, if you'll indulge me." He says. "Um," I start to wonder what he might be requesting. "It depends, what is your request?" I ask. "Take your mind out of the gutter, sweetheart." I laugh. "I wasn't even thinking that." I hear him laugh and I wish he was here with me. "First you have to do something for me," He says. I perk up to hear what he has to say. "Uh huh," I encourage him. "Well first, you'll have to..." At that moment the doorbell rings and I cut him off. "Give me a second Eli, someone is at the door." I put the phone down and look out the living room window. I can't make out the figure at the door as they're under the small awning. I grab my jacket and my keys and head into the in-between. I look through the peel hole but the person's back is to me. "Who is it?" I ask. Latching the chain but unlocking the door. You can never be too careful. "Delivery," I hear the sexiest voice replies. He's staring at me with a dazzling mischievous grin. "Oh, you trickster." I unlatch the chain and open the door wide. "What are you doing here?" "May I come in?" he asks. I see he's holding something behind his back. I try to look around him to see what it is. "What are you hiding?" I ask. His frame blocks my view as I try to look around him. We end up dancing in the entrance as he turns whenever I try to sneak a peek. I see a box and some other things. I try to jump to see over his shoulder and he catches me with one hand and holds me close to him. My breath catches in my throat and I can feel the in-between getting hotter. He looks at with the same mischievous grin and a mix of admiration. I bite my lips and smile shyly. He moves his hand to my face and I release my lips and snuggle into his palm. "Can you tell me what's in your hand please?" I ask sweetly. "The most beautiful person I've ever seen in my life." He says sincerely. I blush and lower my gaze. I can't help the huge smile that spreads across my face. How did I manage to win the jackpot. If God isn't real, my life is a lie. He slowly pulls his hand from behind his back, revealing a dominoes pizza box with bread sticks and a bag with boards games and a deck of cards. "Would you indulge me in a game night date night?" he asks. He's looking at me with a small smile almost as if he's afraid I'll say no. "You want to stay?" I can't hide the excitement in my voice. He nods and I squeal. He looks at me as if I'm crazy then laughs and shakes his head. "Why are you so damn cute?" he kisses my forehead and ushers me upstairs. "Is your sister in, I would like to officially meet her." He says when we get upstairs in the hallway. "She asleep but you can meet her later. We better leave her some pizza or she won't like you." I tease. He tickles my side and I yelp. "That's not cool." I wag my finger at him. He puts the boxes down on the living room floor and looks at me. I can tell he's going to do it again. I hold up my hand to discourage him but he ignores me and grabs me. He pulls me against him and starts tickling me again. "You make all the cutest sounds. From your squeals, to your laugh, to your moans." I become very aware of my proximity to him and his hands moving along my side finding my sensitive areas. My core heats up and I feel a strong ache between my legs. My breath comes faster and I twist in his arms to press myself against him. I look up at him, my eyes burning with desire and try to communicate my thoughts to him. His hands go still on my sides and I see him take a big gulp. Instead of desire reflecting my own, I see sadness in his eyes. He's fighting his own internal battle and I'm not helping. I know he didn't mean to start anything, he was just playing but I can't help but be turned on by his words and his touch. He drops his hands from my sides and point to the food and games on the floor. I gave a weak smile and find a seat on the rug. After a short game of 78910 Jack, I get up to get us some drinks from the kitchen. He follows me and helps me pour the drinks. He refuses the rum we have as he wants to keep things light. We play a long game of snakes and ladders as well as battle ship and who am I. My sister comes out something during our games and proper introductions are done. She grabs some pizza and bread sticks and retreat to her room to give us some privacy. After the games, we sit on the couch and he tells me a bit more about himself and his businesses. I learn that he's the same age as Shay, 30. He had a hard life growing up watching his family struggle financially and he wanted to change that. His determination to set his family free from debt is what led to his financial successes. He tells me about his lifelong friendship with Nicolai and all the trouble they got into as kids. During 21 questions, he tells me his favourite color is black, his favourite animal is a bat and his superpower would be telepathy. We had similar taste in movies but he likes classical music while I enjoy anything with good lyrics and beat. I tell him about my childhood growing up in the Caribbean and wanting more out of life. I tell him about my love of travelling even though I haven't quite travel anywhere except to England and Trinidad. I show him all the bruises in my knees and elbows and their individual stories. I tell him about my dream to retire early, give a student in need a scholarship, help build my country further and work on projects that makes a difference. It's late into the night when his phone rings, interrupting our debate on which universe was better, DCU or Marvel. He gets up from the couch to take his conversation into the hallway. I start tidying up the living room and throw the pizza boxes away in the garbage. I remind myself I'll need to take it before I went to bed. I check my phone and it's already 1 am. We've been playing and talking for the last seven hours. To be honest, it didn't feel that long. I think we can talk for a lot longer. I entertain the thought of a whole day date where we travel through the countryside or hop over to Italy or Spain. We could find a theme park or a carnival and go on different rides. We could finish the day with watching a movie then heading to an arcade to race or he could teach me how to bowl. My daydreaming is interrupted when he grabs my waist from behind. "Penny for your thoughts, beautiful." "I was actually planning another date. I was thinking we could travel to Paris or Spain. Maybe head to a theme park or carnival. Wrap the day up with movies and arcade." His chin is resting on top of my head and he's swaying us. "That sounds great. Maybe we could plan for that in a couple months." He states. Months? I stop swaying and turn to face him. "Why months?" I'm sad that he doesn't jump at the opportunity to spend the day with me. "Because your wrist needs time to heal. Plus, the next few coming weeks will be packed for me. I have a business deal I am trying to sort through amongst other things." He says. I pout and nod my head. Why did I believe that a person as successful as him would have nothing to do but skylark with me at the drop of a hat? I bite my lips and turn away to continue clean up. He helps me pack everything away. When we're finish, it's minutes to two and he's ready to take his leave. I'm sadden that the night has to come to an end and we both have work tomorrow. I wish he didn't have to leave. I walk him downstairs without saying a word. I'm too caught up in my feelings to say anything. I wish our lives were simple and we didn't have responsibilities. Adulting sucks. I didn't want to think about working to pay bills to survive. I want out of this rat race. I think about Eli and wonder why he works so much. "What's on your mind?" He asks looking at me. He's trying to read my mind. "Are you sad I have to leave?" "Why though?" he looks at me, confused of what I'm asking. "Why do you work so much and you're rich? Why don't you just relax? Isn't that why you worked so hard in the first place?" He sighs. "I work because I'll be bored if I don't. It's been a while since I worked because I had to. Yes, I have businesses to manage but I have very adequate staff to manage them on my behalf. I just haven't had anything, or anyone, " He looks at me. "that made me want to do anything else." I nod my understanding. I guess there is still a lot I need to learn about what it means to be rich and what it means to have financial freedom. He kisses me goodnight and watches me lock up before he takes his leave. I head back upstairs and lock the hallway door. Today is one of the best days of my life. I really enjoy being with Eli. He's so smart and passionate and educated. Even in our musings, I learn so much from him. I brush my teeth and head to bed. This is the first time I didn't enjoy the thought of going to work the next day.
