As the family sat down to eat, Elisabeth smiled warmly at Rosa and said, "Rosa, come join us. There's plenty of room at the table."
Rosa hesitated for a moment, unsure if she should accept the invitation. But before she could respond, Francesca spoke up, her voice dripping with disdain.
"I don't think that's necessary, Elisabeth," Francesca said, her eyes narrowing at Rosa. "Rosa is just a maid. She shouldn't be eating with us."
But before Francesca could continue, Giovanni intervened, his voice firm but gentle. "Nonsense, Francesca," he said. "Rosa is a member of this household, and she deserves to be treated with respect and kindness. Rosa, please join us."
Rosa smiled gratefully at Giovanni and took a seat at the table, trying to ignore Francesca's disapproving glare. As they began to eat, the conversation turned to mundane topics, such as the weather and the latest news from town. But beneath the surface, tensions simmered, waiting to boil over at any moment.
Alessandro, in particular, seemed to be seething with resentment, his eyes flashing with anger whenever he looked at Rosa. Francesca, too, seemed to be plotting something, her eyes darting back and forth between Rosa and Giovanni.
As the meal drew to a close, Giovanni pushed his chair back and stood up, a warm smile on his face. "Thank you, Rosa, for another delicious meal," he said. "And to you all, I hope you enjoy the rest of your day. It's always a pleasure to share a meal with the people I love."
"Thank you father."
Leonardo replied and Alessandro gave his cold sneer.
But as the family began to disperse, the tension in the air seemed to grow thicker, like a storm cloud gathering on the horizon. It was clear that the peace and harmony of the Blackwood family was fragile, and that it wouldn't take much to shatter it completely.
As the old man left the dining hall for his room, the group began to disperse one after the other.
Rafael and Sofia, even though they are both cruel in nature, those two never get along well. They trudged upstairs after their meal, and continued to bicker and argue, their voices echoing through the hallway. "I'm going to tell Mother that you pulled my hair!" Sofia shouted, her face red with indignation.
Rafael just laughed and teased her, "Oh, come on Sofia, don't be such a baby!"
Their parents, Alessandro and Francesca, exchanged a weary glance, used to their children's constant squabbles. "Enough, both of you," Alessandro said firmly, his voice brooking no argument. "You'll be late for school if you don't hurry up."
Rosa, who had been watching from the sidelines, stepped forward to help Axel get ready for school. "Okay, Axel, let's get your backpack and lunch ready," she said, smiling at the young boy.
As the morning chaos continued, the Blackwood household was a flurry of activity, with everyone rushing to get ready for their day. But amidst the chaos, there was a sense of warmth and love that permeated the household, a sense of family and belonging that would see them through even the toughest of times.
"Auntie, is Maya still sleeping? She'll be late for school."
Axel said, as Rosa helped him, pack his lunch.
Rosa nodded and headed out the back door, making her way to the small cottage where she and her daughter lived. She slowly walked to the door, calling out, "Maya, wake up! It's time to get ready for school!"
Rosa opened the door to her cottage, and Maya was already dressed and ready to go. "Wow, Maya! You're already up and ready! I'm impressed," Rosa said, smiling at her daughter. Maya grinned, "I didn't want to be late for school, Mom!"
Leonardo and his wife, Elisabeth, waited patiently in the driveway as Maya finished getting ready for school. Once she was set, they loaded up the luxurious SUV, with Axel and Maya climbing into the backseat. Maya, being the chatterbox that she was, tried to engage Axel in conversation, but he remained characteristically silent. It was a trait that everyone in the family had grown accustomed to, and they respected his introverted nature.
As they prepared to depart, Leonardo turned to Elisabeth and leaned in for a tender kiss on the lips. It was a romantic gesture that never failed to bring a smile to Elisabeth's face. With a contented sigh, Leonardo started the engine, and the SUV glided smoothly out of the driveway.
The atmosphere inside the vehicle was filled with happiness and warmth. Maya continued to chat excitedly about her day ahead, while Axel listened intently, his eyes fixed on the passing scenery outside his window. Elisabeth turned around to smile at the children, feeling grateful for this little family of hers.
Meanwhile, Alessandro stood at his window, gazing out at the SUV as it disappeared from view. A slow, evil smile spread across his face, his eyes glinting with malice. He seemed to be savoring some secret knowledge, his expression twisted with a malevolent intent. The contrast between the warmth and love emanating from Leonardo's family and the dark, sinister energy emanating from Alessandro was stark, a jarring reminder that not everyone in the Blackwood family shared the same values or morals.
As Leonardo drove along the winding road, the air around them suddenly seemed to thicken, like an invisible fog had rolled in. Elisabeth's eyes widened, and she clutched at her chest, her voice barely above a whisper. "I don't know, Leonardo, I just have a bad feeling."
Leonardo's eyes flicked towards her, concern etched on his face. He reached out and took her hand, his fingers intertwining with hers. "Don't think too much, my love," he said soothingly. "We're almost at the school. Just a few more minutes."
But before he could even finish speaking, a black truck came careening around the bend, its tires screeching in protest. The vehicle swerved wildly, narrowly avoiding a collision with the SUV. Leonardo's reflexes kicked in, and he yanked the wheel to the left, avoiding the truck by mere inches.
The SUV skidded to the side of the road, throwing everyone off balance. Maya let out a terrified shriek, while both Maya and Axel's eyes went wide with fear. Elisabeth's face was pale, her eyes fixed on the black truck as it sped away into the distance.
Leonardo's face was set in a grim mask, his eyes blazing with anger. "Everyone okay?" he asked, his voice tight with tension.
As they all nodded, still shaken, Leonardo's eyes locked onto the rearview mirror. And that was when he saw it - a small piece of paper stuck to the windshield, flapping in the breeze. With a growing sense of unease, Leonardo reached out and plucked the paper from the glass.
As he unfolded it, his eyes scanned the message scrawled on the page. And then, his face went white.
"What is it?" Elisabeth asked, her voice trembling.
Leonardo's eyes met hers, and for a moment, they just stared at each other. Then, he spoke, his voice barely above a whisper.
